Jeff Snieder on Famuyiwa's exit

By the way, Famuyiwa's exit is further proof that WB has no clue how to proceed with the DCEU, and the recent shuffling in May was just PR.

I'm not 100% convinced of that, they've got too much riding on this for it to be a PR stunt, especially considering Fantastic Beasts isn't looking like the Potter like behemoth they were probably hoping for. If it is just WB rearranging the deck chairs then they've got no-one to blame but themselves for the mess that will follow.

Where is that being said. I've been avoiding press about it.

Early BoxOffice forecasts are putting Fantastic Beasts at a 75 million NA opening weekend. Most of the Harry Potter movies opened at least over 90 million, and total between 800-1 billion dollars WW.

I think it's still to early to properly tell. Forecasts are always changing as you get closer to release dates

Thanks

and yeah I never expected this to do HP numbers but I figured it'll be big. That number doesn't sound bad to me. It's like Rogue One. Unless it's out of this world good I dont think anyone is expecting it to be as big as TFA.

Yup

I don't really know much about the HP franchise, but my girlfriend and her sister have been fans since they could read and have both expressed this exact sentiment. They'll probably get around to seeing it in theaters though.

Potter is all about the characters. People spent 14 years reading and watching these characters. We all fell in love with them. Now they aren't around. It loses a lot of its effectiveness imo.

I think it helps that Rowling is behind these movies very closely, hopefully its good since i love the franchise, probably my 3rd favorite franchise.

Fantastic Beasts shares very little DNA with what people liked about Harry Potter, from setting to characters. I'm not surprised it's not tracking higher.

However, one can understand their decision to go with a JK Rowling-written story (however appealing or not it may be) instead of choosing to just give people more of what they liked with the schools and characters we know or have heard of, Rowling's endorsement be damned. Obviously WB probably would have prefered Rowling to write a more Potter-esque follow-up, but it's not really up them if they decided to hire her to do her thing.

But if Rowling's new stories suck, then like with Lucas and Star Wars, fans will gladly accept the franchise being taken from its original creators hands so that they can see more of the stuff they liked originally. If Fantastic Beasts ends up being the Prequel trilogy, there could always be a Force Awakens down the line, back to Hogwarts, back to the Potter/Weasley families, heck, maybe even a story about their kids finding a missing Old Man Potter.

I'm done I'm just done, I'm sick of the internet...at least a portion of it.

Star Wars wasn't "taken", it was sold by Lucas for $5b. WB doesn't own the rights to the Potter universe or characters, Rowling does. They only own the film rights for specific books which have already made. It's not up to them to continue without her. If they don't like it she could always take her characters and stories to another studio.

Yup. Plus, the movie just doesn't look that interesting. The trailers don't convince me that these movies will have the same heart behind them that the Potter movies did.

Put me and Greens in charge.

The merchandise sales on Bat-toe knives will eclipse anything Disney can ever dream of.

Get Depp on the phone. I want him for Hal Jordan.

I think the first positive step in the right direction would be to do whatever possible to fast track The Batman, and announce its premiere date and that of its sequel.

And scare Affleck in the process? He's made it clear he is taking his sweet time with it, altough everyone else in the production is like "WE'RE SHOOTING THE FILM NOW!" :hehe:

The Batman movie will come out when Affleck feels it's ready to come out... which is 2018. Those actors aren't lying, the movie starts shooting next year. WB shouldn't fast track anything after what happened with Suicide Squad.

Also, fast tracking Batman and even doing Batman well is just proof that Batman is the only thing they can do, and thus makes introduction of any additional characters less and less relevant to their strategy.

The biggest problems are behind the camera. Like, far behind, the people who don't touch the set but want to micromanage to maximum results. The best move is to clean house, inside and out, and do a Crisis on Infinite Earths film(s).

But there's little hope for that, especially when they can just ride on Batman again. It's really sad.

Problem with shutting down the DECU is that the DCEU is the only Franchise currently bringing in loads of money for the studio. You shut down the DCEU and your profits go down the drain. Fantastic Beasts isn't HP so i doubt it would be able to even do Suicide Squad numbers. We have to wait for Kong and Godzilla but i don't think it'll be a blockbuster franchise. So WB will either start buying Franchises like Bond or they will focus on smaller films

Nah, you can't shut it down, but it needs an overhaul of some sort.

Eon will sell Bond over Barbara Broccoli's dead body.
