What If...
Charles_Xavier_Earth-1610.png

For years the Watcher has brought stories of alternate realities and What If tales to the public, stories of alternative outcomes. Now I, the X-Men's Charles Xavier, bring my own What If stories to you, the reading public.
Using my mutant powers to delve deep into the minds of heroes and villains alike, I examine their deepest worries, wants, fears, desires, and fantasies.
These are stories of what the patient, say Spider-Man, thinks could have happened, or could happen.
For example, What If Peter had revealed he was Spider-Man to his Aunt May from the very beginning?
Years have passed now, and over time Peter has regretted and be glad that he hadn't revealed his true identity.
So now I, Charles Xavier, will show Peter Parker, and you the reader,
What if Peter Parker had revealed he was Spider-Man to his Aunt May?
I am working on this, the idea I was posting here was that Xavier hosting his own What If stories.
Peter reveals he is Spider-Man to his Aunt one day when he doesn't feel like lying to her about where he has been. Aunt May is so shocked and upset that she throws Peter out. She immediately calls her neighbor Emma Watson, and continues to work herself up over Peter's revelation. So riled up that she has a heart attack. Emma races over. Peter arrives just as the ambulance and the doctors are taking Aunt May out. When Peter asks what happened Emma reveals that Peter did this to her, and that he is Spider-Man. Peter runs as word spreads that he is Spider-Man and is responsible for an old woman being in the hospital. While Jameson spreads the word, Captain Stacey sends the entire NYPD after Spider-Man. While Peter is on the run Aunt May dies in the hospital. Peter's only ally during the whole thing turns out to be Flash Thompson, who hides him for a short time before Peter runs off. And the one person Peter thought he could count on, his on again off again girl friend Betty Brant, shuts the door on him forever. Peter is New York's most wanted, everyone is after him. He can't even see his Aunt to see if she is ok, or go to her funeral. Jameson even rigs it so that Spider-Man's top enemies release to capture him. In the end Peter becomes cornered, and there is no way out. Peter must fight. He battles the Sinister Six, and the NYPD.
(Because Xavier is reading their minds, perhaps he can intervien. Reveal to the patient what the reality of the situation would have been or would be. Or help them face their fears and come out stronger than ever.)(These shouldn't just be showing peoples hopes and worries. It should be an entertaining story as well.)
I remind you, these are not stories from another world or dimension. These are stories created by the minds, the psyches, of these heroes or villains themselves. Is this what would have happened? I cannot say, but I can tell you that this is why Peter never revealed his true identity to his Aunt.
I have shown you a scenario created by Peter Parker's own mind, and now I must leave you. But I will return to show you the thoughts and fears of other Marvel heroes and villains such as Bulleye, Galactus, Cyclops, Hank McCoy, Magneto, Maria Hill, Susan Storm, and others.

that would be a cool Twilight Zone take on it...Very Awesome.

Thanks, glad you saw it that way.
I was just thinking, that Xavier has the power to see into others minds and see their fears and desires. he could see these scenarios that people can come up with in their heads. They are like What Ifs. It could be really fun I think. Of coarse they are all to help the patient (the star of that issue) deal with his or her fears and worries and such.

What if Xavier had recruited the members of the Brotherhood of Evil mutants and not Scott Summers, Jean Grey, Hank McCoy etc?
Charles Xavier's personal Journel:
The time has come. My plans are ready for action. The world will soon find out about Mutants there will be no turning back and if I wait it will be too late for any action. So I must put my team together. I have several choices I can make. Many potentials, but potential might not be enough.
I have used my powers to peak into the minds of others, people on the streets, holding political offices, and everywhere in between. I have even looked into the minds of mutants such as my possible choices and my former friend Magneto. He is planning something as well.
In the days to come things will become worse before they get better.
Using my powers and my computer simulation devices I have seen two outcomes based on my choosing one team over the other.
Scott Summers, Hank McCoy, Jean Grey, Warren Worthington III, and Bobby Drake, are young and full of hope and potential. They are camera friendly. If I pick them it will be choosing the less agressive rout of peace. And the path that might take years to accomplish.
But can I afford that?
The other team, Mortimer Toynbee, Jason Wyngarde, and the son and daughter of Magneto Pietro Django Maximoff and Wanda Maximoff. I can see that each of them are more aggressive and lean more towards violent actions. But they are more willing to do what needs to be done, things I am afraid must be done in order to ensure the future of Mutant kind. This team is less likely, based on what I can see in their minds, to question me or my methods. But is that necessarily a good thing?
The other team is no doubt the more virtuous of the two, but the second team has goodness in them as well. Wanda and Pietro in particular. I already know Magneto is planning on using them for his own goals. Can I afford to let him influence them? Plus his own children might be able to sway Magneto in his evil plans.
I have made my choice. My X-Men team will be option B, Magneto's children, Mortimer, and Jason. The other team shall be notified as well. My school will not turn them away. Perhaps, after some training, the others can join My X-Men.

What If... Mole Man had killed the Avengers?
In Avengers #16, Iron Man, Giant Man, and the Wasp, have taken a leave of absence from the Avengers for a while, with Thor somewhere in Asgard for who knows how long. They leave the team in the hands of Captain America and the new Avengers Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, and Hawkeye.
Iron Man leaves them one word of advice, "Find the Hulk." They need his power for the team since Thor, Iron Man, Wasp and Giant Man are gone.

Avengers #17, on their first mission (to find the Hulk) they are attacked by the Mole Man and his Minotaur. The Minotaur has them pinned in a small tunnel. Suddenly the ceiling starts to fall on them. Quicksilver uses his speed to outrun the falling rocks and bolder.
But...
What if the other Avengers weren't so lucky? What if the falling rocks had crushed Captain America, Scarlet Witch, and Hawkeye?
Leaving Quicksilver to face the Mole Man and his monster's alone?
What if the new team of Avenger's had died on their first official mission?

How would that have effected the Avengers? Would the retired Avengers return? Would that have been the end of the Avengers?

What if Peter didn't get bitten by a radioactive Spider?
Peter never got bitten, he did however stay home the night Uncle Ben would have gotten shot. When the robber saw a teenage boy at home, along with an older man and his wife he moved on to the next house. Uncle Ben didn't die... yet.
Peter went on to be valedictorian of his school, earning the best scores of anyone. He went to the same college he eventually went to on a scholarship. Met Gwen and Harry, and all that.
Peter became a super genius engineer and biochemist. He was even getting looked at by Stark Industries and others. But what didn't happen to him in highschool found its way to happening to him in college.
Peter was becoming hot stuff, and on his way to becoming the next Tony Stark. He was getting offers from lots of companies. But Ben made him promise to use his intelligence wisely, with great power comes great responsibility. Ben also made Peter promise to finish his studies before agreeing to work for anyone.
That evening, while Peter was suppossed to be studying in his dorm room a robber killed Uncle Ben while waiting for Peter, who told him he would be studying late when he was really doing something else. Peter should have been in his room instead of the lab working on a new project.
Uncle Ben died, and again Peter blamed himself.
This time Peter had no radioactive powers. He used the only thing he had, his brain. And created weapons and a suit and found the robber. But instead of killing him he handed him over to the cops.
Eventually refined the suit into something better and created a vehicle for himself.
And codenamed himself Spider-Man. Using a gun he created that not only shot web stuff, to capture bad guys, he also equiped it with flash granades a strobe light, and sleeping gas. Peter also has spider-trackers, as well as his flying Spider-craft. Eventually Peter graduated collage and worked his way through companies and eventually created his own Parker Enterprises, all while still saving the day as Spider-Man.

(the idea is that without the spider bite Peter would have eventually become Ted Kord/Blue Beetle. He would have become one of the super genius inventors and owned his company. but eventually used his skills for crime fighting.)

What if the radioactive spider didn't bite Peter?
Two things could have happened.
Peter continued in school, and continued to get bullied but without his being Spider-man to comfort him and having no friends and family, and with the death of Uncle Ben...
Peter graduated first in his entire school, early even, and went on to a scholarship at college where he excelled in all areas of science,
but Peter had something dark in him after all the years of bullying and the losses in his life. Peter used his genius to become a super villain instead of a hero.
Or
Peter becomes like Ted Kord and uses his genius to become a crime fighting adventurer hero.

What If: the X-Men freed Danger?
What if Charles Xavier had freed the advanced alien computer program Danger when he had found out about her?
What if, instead of ignoring the cries for help and for freedom that the trapped program was sending out, what if Xavier had informed his X-Men. What if they had devised a way to free her back then, instead of her freeing herself years later and attacking them?

What If: George Hill was Hobgoblin?

While trying to stop some bank robbers one got away into the sewers, Spider-Man didn't think anything of it since he caught the other two. But the bank robber George Hill found the Green Goblin's secret layer and all his weapons. What if, instead of telling the man who would become Hobgoblin about it, what if George used the weapons and became the Hobgoblin himself?

What If: Peter Parker revealed he is Spider-Man to Flash Thompson?

In issue #47 of Amazing Spider-Man Flash Thompson has been drafted for the war, and is leaving. The night before he leaves his friends throw him a surprise party to say good bye. What if, as a good bye to Spider-Man's biggest fan, Peter revealed he is Spider-Man?
I am not sure, but here is an idea how it might have gone.
The entire comic is staying the same up till the end, when everyone is saying good bye to Flash and wishing him luck. Peter says his good bye to the guy who tormented him in high school and was a sort of thorn in his side during these past few months at college, but through it all was always a true fan of Spider-Man and had recently become closer and friendlier with Peter. Peter debates back and forth.
The party ends, the crowd thins, and then a lonely Peter Parker walks home. He thinks "If only I had told him who I really am... just once!"
Then, despite debating with himself that its not like he is never returning, Flash will be back, Peter decides to do it.
When Flash arrives home, before going inside, Spider-Man swings down. He tells Flash he is glad to have a fan like him and heard he is being drafted, and wanted to show him something before he left. Spider-Man pulls off his mask to reveal himself as Peter Parker. Flash is dumb struck for a good hour (or maybe just a good 15 minutes). He just can't wrap his head around it. Puny Parker is Spider-Man.
Peter tells Flash not to tell a soul, and Flash promises saying, "No one would believe me anyway. Who would believe Parker is Spider-Man? I still don't and I am seeing it right here!"
The next day Flash is off to the war, but does he return?
a few months later his friends get the word that Flash is either missing and presumed dead.
Last panel of the What if Comic: Peter standing there alone, with a Spider-signal spot light on him and a shot of Flash Thompson in the sky like in remembrance.

Or did he die?
What If: Peter Parker revealed he is Spider-Man to Flash Thompson? Park 2
The second issue, Flash was presumed dead but he didn't die. He was greatly wounded, so wounded that the army sent him home. Now Peter must deal with the fact that Flash is alive, back, and knows he is Spider-Man. Will Flash tell anyone, everyone? Will he help Parker with his secret? Will he still be a fan of Spider-Man?
The first half of the story has Flash with amnesia, from his injury in the war and the reason he was sent home. Flash doesn't remember a lot of things, including Peter being Spider-Man. Maybe the problem is that he also doesn't remember that he and Peter become somewhat friends too and he treats Peter like they were back in high school or something.
But then, while watching his hero Spider-Man fight a bad guy, Flash has a break though. When he comes to help a wounded Spider-Man off the ground during the battle he remembers everything, the war, the draft, Spider-Man and Peter. In the end Flash assures Peter that his secret is safe and he wont tell anyone.
We also get a few good scenes like Flash (bad acting) trying to play like he doesn't know Spider-Man is Peter, saying something like "Go get him Spidey! Um, were did that Puny Parker run off too? Probably scared of the fight or something." Or when Peter returns after saving the day as Spider-Man, "So, uh, did you get all those great shots of Spider-Man to sell to the Bugle?" Or when someone like Harry asksy "Where is Pete?" Flash could say, "If there is one thing I know is that I definately don't know where Parker is! Thats fur sure!" Also some great scenes of Flash acting smug that he gets to know who Spider-Man is while others don't.

What If... Spider-Man Hadn't Saved Norman Osborn's Life?

Kraven had returned, and it was revealed that the Green Goblin was behind several of the Hunter's actions. Goblin offered money to the Hunter for killing Spider-Man, Kraven failed and went to prison. But he had come back and wanted his money. But the Goblin was now dead, killed in a fire by Spider-Man. But Kraven knew that Norman Osborn was the Goblin's lackey, he followed him home once when Osborne made the offer of payment on the Goblin's behalf.
Osborn attacked Norman at every turn, even trying to kidnap his son. If Spider-Man hadn't showed up. The he even tried tying Norman up and threatening to throw him off a building, but Norman had no memory of Kraven or a goblin. Using his animal senses Kraven saw he was telling the truth. He left Norman alone and turned his attentions to Spider-Man.
But during the ruckus Norman accidentally fell off the building. Spider-Man was too busy with Kraven. Spider-Man was able to get away, but not soon enough. As Spider-Man reached to save Norman it was a second too late. That one second changed everything.
Norman fell to his death, dying in front of his son Harry, Harry's friends MJ, Flash, and Gwen, a crowd of on lookers, and Jameson.
Since Norman hadn't been the Goblin for so long, and no one knew their connection besides Peter, he died a hero. Coming to his son's rescue. However Spider-Man was bashed in the Daily Bugle, more so than usual. The headline, "Spider-Man pushes Norman Osborn off Building." The article, featuring photos by Peter Parker, stated that Spider-Man was in league with Kraven, and that Spider-Man himself killed Osborn. Not only that, but Spider-Man let Kraven escape authorities, maybe even helped him.
Likewise, Harry Osborn became hateful towards Spider-Man as well. He wasn't sure of Spider-Man's connection to the Hunter, who was still at large, but he knew Spider-Man didn't save his father and could have pushed him. His hatred grew and grew each day.
Meanwhile Spider-Man/Peter had become even more of a outlaw, everyone was out for his blood. That made it hard for Spider-man to capture Kraven, and even harder when Kraven teamed up with a new Vulture (a man named Drago).
Harry confronted Spider-Man, with aid from Jameson who had used his money to give Harry some armor and gear to go after the wall-crawler.
But in the end Harry couldn't stop Spider-Man, even if he wanted to. He was no match, and even though Spider-Man insisted that he tried to save Norman, Harry refused to see it. Spider-Man swung away and Harry sat there feeling like a failure.
Things came to a head when Spider-man fought both Kraven and the new Vulture. Spider-Man was sick, and was outmatched. The fight was huge, if only because Spider-Man was at half strength. Just fighting to stay alive Spider-Man accidentally killed both Kraven and the new Vulture. Spider-Man was seen by some as a hero who did what had to be done, while others like the Bugle gloated about Spider-man turning out to be the killer they always said he was.
Later Harry got home, and accidentally found his father's Goblin layer and weapons. This meant that his father was the Green Goblin, or maybe connected in some way to the Goblin that Spider-man killed in the fire. This could mean that his father was connected to Kraven, and maybe Spider-Man was trying to save him. Or maybe Spider-Man was in league with Kraven and the Goblin and killed them both, like Jameson said, and maybe he did killed his father who was an unwilling lackey in all this. And like before, Harry turned himself into a goblin. He used the chemicals and the armor, but this new Goblin would be a dark hero of the city, a vigilante for justice. Peter went home, knowing that life would be getting even harder.

And in all this, because Norman Osborn died, Gwen Stacy lived. And no one ever knew her life was in danger.

avengers-and-fantastic-four.jpg

What if the Fantastic Four and Avengers never existed?

Imagine a world where neither team was formed because its founding members died before they became superheroes. Meanwhile, the X-Men is still founded by Xavier with Cyclops, Beast, Angel, Marvel Girl, and Iceman.

Either the cosmic rays kill Reed, Ben, Sue, and Johnny or they were mistakenly gunned down by the guards that were patrolling the launch pad of Reed's experimental spaceship. Therefore, the Fantastic Four never came to be.

As for the Avengers, everyone except for Thor is out of the picture. Tony is killed by the shrapnel instead of merely injuring his heart. Bruce Banner is either murdered by his abusive father or the gamma bomb kills him instead. Newly weds, Hank Pym and Maria Trovaya are murdered by Communist agents while on honeymoon in Maria's native Hungary. Janet van Dyne dies with her father by the Creature from Kosmos. Donald Blake is the only who doesn't die since he's the avatar of Thor, so say he never makes that fateful trip to Norway. Thor will eventually awaken since it's his destiny, but at a later time.

Besides the X-Men, the other superheroes in the Marvel Universe exist such as Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, etc. However, some heroes such as Namor and Steve Rogers may not be active. It was Johnny Storm of the FF that recognized the derelict by the docks as the long-forgotten Sub-Mariner and caused Namor to regain his memory. Namor, later, encountered the frozen body of Captain America and hurled it into the open sea, only for the Avengers to recover and resuscitate Steve Rogers.

With the absence of the Fantastic Four, can Earth be spared from the hunger of Galactus? Or will Uatu the Watcher reach out to the X-Men or other heroes in order to obtain the Ultimate Nullifier? Will the Silver Surfer betray his master and side with the Earth in this alternate scenario if he meets with Alicia Masters or someone else?

What path would T'Challa follow since he doesn't encounter the Fantastic Four or becomes an Avenger? Would the Black Panther and King of Wakanda remain content with domestic affairs and rarely venture out? What happens to Wakanda and its invaluable deposits of vibranium in this What If?

Will the X-Men, Spider-Man, and remaining superheroes have it worse or better off in this universe without the FF and Avengers? Can they deal with FF/Avengers foes such as Count Nefaria, Doctor Doom, etc. AND their own rogues gallery?

What if Hank Pym never became Ant-Man?

Instead of honeymooning in Hungary where Maria and her family were known as political dissidents to the Communist regime, Hank favors another locale instead. Maria eventually agrees and sees the rationale of her husband's argument against visiting her homeland where trouble may arise. So Hank Pym and his new wife enjoy a well-deserved trip someplace else in Europe instead.

Pym is still a committed scientist with out-of-this-world ideas, but is more grounded due to Maria encouraging him to look beyond test tubes and enjoy life for what it is. Thus a new Hank Pym is developed; one that has an active social life and assertion as a human being rather than confine himself in a lab for weeks on end.

Since Maria was never murdered by Communist agents, Pym isn't driven to avenge his wife by utilizing his Pym Particles and Ant-Helmet tech to fight as Ant-Man. It's also possible that Pym never encounters Vernon van Dyne and his vivacious daughter, Janet. Vernon and most likely Janet will get killed by Pilai, the Creature from Kosmos after Vernon's experiment opens a portal into the Kosmosian dimension like it did in canon. Without Pym's intervention, Pilai would try and takeover the Earth. Who knows which superhero would stop the Creature from Kosmos.

Also, the Avengers would never form since Hank wouldn't pick up the distress call from Rick Jones on his Ant-Helmet. Thus, Iron Man (who received Rick's signal in canon along with Hank and Janet), Thor, and the Hulk would fight against Loki. They'd win of course, but without Pym, there wouldn't be anyone to suggest that they should join as a team of heroes to unite against threats that neither one of them could handle on their own.

And without the Avengers, Pym wouldn't study Dragon Man and try his hand at creating an artificial being. Ultron would never be unleashed unto the world. Nor would the Scarlet Witch have an android husband since no Ultron means no Vision as well. No Vision means that Wanda would not have a husband who can't bear her children, so she doesn't conjure up the twins, Thomas and William. No Thomas and William means Wanda doesn't lose her mind and Disassembled may not happen.

In Fantastic Four #16, Ant-Man was contacted to help the shrinking FF members. Without Pym and his Pym Particle capsules, it's very possible that the FF would be unable to defeat Doctor Doom, who was responsible for their predicament.

In Avengers #12, Pym (as Giant-Man) detected unusual tremors which were caused by the Mole Man to slowly increase the speed of the Earth spinning on its axis, the resultant physical mayhem allowing him to take over the planet. It was Pym that allowed the Avengers to succeed by shrinking down and disabling Mole Man's apparatus that was destabilizing Earth.

If the Fantastic Four were unable to defeat Doom like they originally did in Fantastic Four #16-17, than who'd stop Super-Skrull, the Molecule Man, Namor's invasion of the surface world with the full might of Atlantis, and most importantly, the coming of Galactus.
And no Avengers means somebody else would have to face Kang the Conqueror, the Masters of Evil, Count Nefaria, and other Avenger foes. The Kree-Skrull War, the Celestial Madonna storyline, and the Korvac Saga would drastically be different if the Avengers were not around. And these are just some of the early events of 616 from the 60's and 70's.

All this because Hank Pym never lost his first wife and became a costumed adventurer to avenge her memory...

What if Sunfire had remained an X-Man?

Sunfire has a change of heart and decides to join his fellow mutants instead of being a loner. Sunfire's aloof personality gradually develops trust and loyalty with his teammates. Because of this, the events in X-Men unfold differently due to Shiro being around.

John Proudstar would've lived because Sunfire wouldn't allow a fellow warrior to die needlessly. And in issue #100 of X-Men volume 1, Jean wouldn't encounter the Phoenix Force because Sunfire would be flying the shuttle instead. Sunfire's powers would protect him from the radiation from the solar flare passing through Earth's atmosphere while manually operating the ship for reentry. Jean could just telepathically implant Dr. Corbeau's piloting skills into Sunfire while the others are safe in the shielded chamber.

Don't really have a story to go with it,
but I would love to see the Super Pro Armor used by the NFL in some alternate future story, so each and every player was wearing the super high tech armor in games. It would be funny.

What if...The Avengers were the ones responsible for the Stamford incident?

what if bucky became the next red skull.
lotsa heart rending stuff for steve..the winter soldier never got made good again and sin got hold of him and the red skull took over completetely.

what if captain britain was an avenger.

What If... Spider-Man was the one who shot the Skrull Queen during Secret Invasion instead of Norman Osborn?
I'll add a story to this later.

then we'd have him be leader of the new shield..called w.e.b
he'd lead the spider-avengers consting of lotsa spiderman heroes and stuff..and hopefully sentry would be a good guy..superman type hero and we'd all live happily ever after!!
