What Is The Right Religion?

Also, A LOT of gay people are Christian. Would a Christian engage in an act they know if sinful? I would think not.

God wants all his followers to be happy. I really don't think God cares who you love, it's that you love. Also, homosexuality in its Greek translation (and thank you VenomFan, for clearing this up), simply condemns the sexual acts practiced in the gay community, but never specifically forbids two people of the same sex to be sexually attracted to each other.

I'm sorry but stick to defending your religion, I'm sure if a gay dude saw your argument he would be like "uh....thanks dude, but...uh.. don't help me kay? *rainbows* "
it's a bad argument. because they can't be good Christians by definition.
and the rest is "what you think god thinks" I mean, don't get me wrong, more people of faith should have your attitude ( except the whole "they never get laid again" thing) just, think it through.

But how do you truly know what makes a good Christian? The two most important commandments are, according to The Book, are "Love Thy God With All Your Heart" and "Do Unto Others As You Would Yourself". It was gone into detail in the Christianity thread.

Notice how said, "I really don't think..." rather than simply says "God doesn't care...". I would never outright state I know what God thinks.

The whole homosexuality issue bothers me, too, and I too am Catholic.

I didn't know that you were Catholic, your views on evolution made me assume you were protestant. If I'm correct most Catholics including the Pope himself have accept evolution while they despise abortion and the notion of gay marriage. Conflicted much?

Organized Religion Blows

Agreed. Religion in general is not a bad thing. It's when it becomes a predominant influence in government and we begin to have world leaders begin to represent every single religion and we have entire tv channels and whatnot dedicated to religion, that's when it becomes a problem.

Look, I'm Catholic, and for the most part, I don't think we need a Pope.

Going to Church should be like going to a supermarket.

I flip-flop on the whole "evolution vs. creationism", I will admit. I have a friend who apparently graduated from The Pat Robertson School Of Christianity (he's Protestant) who always makes me feel bad about believing into evolution and sends me all these e-mails about how evolution is a lie and whatnot. It conflicts me a bit. I have to lie and say I believe in creationism, which I shouldn't do, but I want him to get off my back about it. Thanks to him, I feel like I have to question every single thing I do, including things I felt comfortable with before.

That being said, I've settled on theistic evolution. I do acknowledge the idea that Adam & Eve may have evolved, however. I prefer the idea that God took his time creating us, seeing what creatures were fit too survive in his world, taking pleasure in watching us grow, like a true loving father would. I prefer that over a week in which everything was done and done.

Good lord you're a crappy Catholic. :csad:

I'm more of a non-denominationalist these days, actually. I don't see why we need a Pope. With the exception of Pope John Paul II, they don't really seem to do much.

Most Christians don't see the need for him, either. The Catholic Church actually added a lot of stuff that isn't in The Bible, and were also heavily inspired by Paganism. The Pope's hat is modelled after the Pagan fish god.

Would it hurt to tell him to lay off with the propaganda? That's what I had to do with my religious mother. The fact is that as big of an atheist I am I'll acknowledge that evolution doesn't take out of the equation a higher entity. There's other reasons that I think god can't exist, they have nothing to do with evolution.

I thought it was modeled after the head of a rabbit...

He has layed off, but he and a few other kids have jumped on me for my views. I don't let it bother me, or at least I try.

Well, my friend, whose entire life is devoted to hours and hours going to Christian websites and studying every single thing he can find, says it was modelled after the fish god.

Most of the things in the Catholic faith has nothing to do with what's in the Bible. They're mostly tradition oriented. Catholicism had a talent for incorporating traditions and rituals from the local population into their themes. That's why in parts of Mexico they still observe "Day of the dead".

You know as a christian myself, it's all about being righteous and that means, not being defined by your actions but by accepting Christ as your lord and saviour and through him, your actions as a good person holds weight and I belieeve with that said, one has the wisdon to do and handle certain situations in a contolled manner that doesn't lead to chaos but unfortunately we dont live in a world where wisdom is practised effectively.

The Catholics also, for whatever reason, hold Mary in much higher regard. The Immaculate Conception, the belief that Mary was born sinless, is not something held by any other Christian denomination.

Your friends are in serious need of a hobby.

I'm always trying to tell them that we're too young to worry about things like religion and that we should focus on being normal teenagers, but they're like, "No, it's fun!". And I'm like, "Where's the fun?".

Yeah, I've noticed that too. Mary's held about a point and a half below Jesus.

As for Mary, why do catholics worship and pray to her, catholics/christians aren't supposed to do that. Mary was merely the vessel that gave birth to Christ, thats where her level of importance begins and stops, other than that she's pretty much insignificant to the cgristian faith.

Mary is no doubt a major part of the Christian faith, but I don't think she was sinless.

Immaculate Conception doesn't refer to sins Mary may have committed in her lifetime (It's not about the Virgin Birth either, a common misconception, so to speak). Mary is considered to have born without the taint of Original Sin, which is the legacy of Adam and Eve's transgression in the Garden of Eden. According to Catholicism, we are all "bad" because of the sins of our (alleged) ancestors, and if we don't follow their church rules we will be eternally tortured in the afterlife.

in my opinion, the correct religion (if you even end up choosing one) is one where:
no money EVER is spent
no building is required for worship
doesn't require a hatred of others for their belief(s) (or even looking down apon them)

i'm agnostic (leaning towards athiesm), though see no problem with people having a belief in a higher power.
