What made this movie a let down for the majority of the fans?

You shouldn't have to "adjust your expectations" to enjoy a movie.

and what 13 year old kid from imdb who just found superherohype wouldnt praise spiderman? if i was a kid of that age again and i saw a spiderman movie, ANY spiderman movie, i would give it a high vote. a poll means nothing. neither does box office numbers. when you get below a 70% rating on RT it DOES mean something.

So says the master, "christpunchers" who knows all things

Please:whatever:
The poll and box office both show support for the film, your beloved RT is not the only factor.

actually youve got me wrong. im not trying to be wise. but it bugs me that you think of complaints as "whining". yes im very appreciative of a chance to watch spiderman regardless but that doesnt mean they could do whatever they wanted and make it in such a sloppy fashion as theyve done. i dont care what RT says, but i and many other found this film to be a disappointment. box office doesnt mean anything. its just a dollar figure about how many people went into the theater, it doesnt necessary mean the film was done well.

Fair enough.

BINGO! people trying to defend this crap of a movie by sayin "oh, u expected it to be good" OH REALLY!? why wouldnt i expect this to be a good movie? now with this positive Sony is doing by saying its topping records of the box office is MISLEADING.....now the new Hulk can be a double shot of crap cause people will like whatever kind of movie as long as it has their hero in it....a sad day for super hero movies...well, we still have Nolan and "The Dark Knight"

Actually if you look at this poll: http://www.superherohype.com/forums/showthread.php?t=270765
SPIDER-MAN 3 WASN'T a "let down for the majority of the fans."

The whiners are in the MINORITY.

No, around here the Spider-man fans with standards are the minority and the Sam Raimi apologists are the MAJORITY. Sam Raimi could turn Parker it into a corny-hip-thrusting idiot and the apologists would still love/worship/defend his shameful mockery of Peter Parker. It's truly sad.

And that poll is also a crappy indication of the true sentiment of the fans because it doesn't ask "were you disappointed? yes or no". Most honest Spider-man fans would say yes.

people didnt expect to muhc. they didnt expect a dance movie. for christ sake again has really noone noticed that there is really a lot of daning in this movie?
dear lord this movie should have been the darkest but it is the funniest. of course it make so much money. sony are smart. they would never have a serious and rak movie liek SR was. but this movie should have been dark.
dark peter is the fiunnier than normal peter.
camp.

i agree....the people thats crying foul about this movie are FANS in the majority(i'm a fan, this movie sucked)......we wanted a good movie, we didnt get it......but u "apologists" as blind fury pointed out, are accepting this crap, ur hero's dignity has been raped in front of ur eyes, and ur defending it?....sad,sad day....

i am talkinng abput dancing and about a funny adrk peter.
you are tlaking about story.

WTF

I like venom i think he's ace but it was a bit anowing to not hear him say "we" or look a bit more muscular but apart from that i loved every bit in the film.

man teh stuff you rant around the boards is just jaw dropping. spider-mans dignity was RAPED? right in front of my eyes? ummm...well, not to this spider-man fan.

i just saw the movie for the second time...and the dance scenes people complain about were like...3-4 minutes total. out of a 2 and a half hour movie.

i went into this movie expecting to see one thing, spider-man. guess what i saw when i got into the movie theater! SPIDER-MAN.

i dont mind the dance scenes but the rest of the movie was so bad that the joke was like an insult, if the movie was great UP TO THAT POINT then i would have laughed harder.

taken from some ign review:

"I'm sorry but this movie was terrible. Spiderman 2 was superior in every single way! First of all there was NO explanation for ANYTHING! Marko is running from the cops and falls in a sand pit where scientists are experimenting... okay what's the experiment? A random ass meteorite just so happens to fall next to parker's moped and that's where the symbiote comes from? I'm sorry but even as a fan of the franchise I can't accept this"

there you go, sony and the execs thought "fans" would gobble up and eat anything that they gave us, and thats why a film like this is made and another one will be made if it werent for the honest critics. i still cant believe that a bunch of "scientists" would run a test and not have some sort of way to monitor if anything would fall into the pit..... i mean COME ON , theyre supposed to be the big brains and they would have an OPENED test site with no cameras? no security? makes ZERO SENSE, just like 90% of this movie.

and from another review:

"The movie shows that eventually, even the most loyal franchises fall victim to commercialization and a loss for what was originally important and special. No one bothered to look at the script and say "you know what, we need to work on this a little longer". Instead the took what was too much, threw a ton of money at it, and released. Quality over quantity will always survive the test of time. I don't care how much money this movie will make, over time more and more people will realize that this is the weakest entry of the first three films and the problems that lead to this downfall.
Bottom line, I am a huge fan of Spiderman and the mythology, and I felt let down."

rewatching the intro to #3 is painful because it highlights some of the best parts of the first 2 movies..... and it shouldnt be this way.

theres another review on ign saying how venom sounded like a baby raptor, heh cant help but agree. the audience laughed when the giant doughboy godzilla/sandman started pounding on peter, venom's little squeeks/yelps as he tied spidey down onto the column wasnt supposed to be a comedic moment, it was dramatic, but it came off as a joke, maybe thats what raimi wanted, since he doesnt care much for venom anyhow.

Seriously. I Laughed out when i heard the line:
"There's a change in mass/density"
"Must be a bird or something"

Emus must be indigenous to that area or something because i can't imagine what bird would weigh as much as an adult male. :)

ha the funniest thing is imaging what was going through raimi's mind, the minds of the actors and also the entire crew that was there on site for that scene..... raimi "hey guys dont you think thats brilliant? the audience are gonna have a great laugh at these scientists"...... some guy holding the boom must have just smirked and said "uh yeah... thats right mr raimi, thats brilliant, "must have been a bird", nice".

3 years of waiting and i still cant believe how big of a turd this turned out to be. i still remember after i saw sm2 in theaters i was amazed for hours thinking "what great adventures lies ahead for harry pete and mj".... and when i watch them now, even at the premiers, you can tell that they no longer give a crap, because they knew just how bad the story was. hell even chris young gave a crap, the music to this thing was like written half a day before the deadline.

I'm an honest Spider Man fan, and I liked the movie. Wasn't disapointed at all.

Did you see any scales In there to gauge EXACTLY how much weight? Sheesh. I can't believe how nitpicky some people are to complain about this and a few other *VERY MINOR* things In the movie.

you have got to be joking, SM3 has it's problems but SR is just plain DULL.
I was disappointed (on first viewing) of SM3 but was entertained I almost feel asleep during SR

that is NOT minor. okay sure they couldnt tell if it was a bird or a man by the weight but why 1) have a test site with no covering and 2) no covering but have no security cameras or anything to see that there was a guy inside? it would have been better if they found out "hey theres a guy in there" scientist B goes "sh1t! we cant stop the machine!", he gets turned anyhow, at least we know they didnt just turn on some machine and went home without even looking at what happened.

I was 'expecting' an action movie when I saw blade runner and was disappointed, saw it for the second time 'knowing' it was more suspense/drama and loved it.
