Personally i like batman begins the most out of all 3 purely because it feels more like a batman movie then the other 2

That is a fair opinion. I like TDK best because of Joker and the themes of the movie. I don't see TDK every being topped to be honest.

Batman Begins left no impression on me. TDK is the best CBM I have ever seen. I wasn't going to bother with TDK but then the reviews started to roll in. The best Batman movie followed the worst Batman movie (B&R). Same studio.

There was a massive change in leadership and a different ethic at WB between 1997 and 2008 as well which accounts for the different quality. In 1997 the Batman franchise was pretty much the only game in town , superhero wise and making money hand over fist. The execs got greedy and felt excess was king, and story didn't matter as long as you sold toys. A decade later you had different people at the helm who were willing to give Nolan the creative freedom to tell the story he wanted to tell .

It may take something like that at Sony, because for now I think they're still stuck in "Lets copy the Avengers World building" mode as opposed to , let's make a good film.

Sony have to be having meetings right now with regards to how they can save their flagship franchise. Personally I think it is simply a matter of getting an A list writer and director but the acting talent is already there.

i think sony need a plan first and foremost, they need a structure and a direction for other movies going forward and they really do need to believe in that plan and take their time with it and not cowardly chicken out of it late in the game.

i ain't one of these people who believe sony shouldn't take some risks with this franchise, i don't see why they should restrict themselves with this franchise because some fans can't see anything more beyond spider-man as a character

The franchise is SPIDERMAN. I don't get the notion of people getting this world building feeling to make an epic Spidey movie. Spidey does not have a strong supporting cast that currently resides at Sony. Silver Sable, Venom, and BC are the only viable spinoffs, and it's another Elecktra waiting to happen. Plus those characters have never been properly introduced in a Spidey movie to date.

I already said that Arad needs to go forward with ASM 3 sooner rather than later, but let's say hypothetically he can't allocate the budget that the creative team wants to tell the story. Then the plan should be to buy time, not waste millions covering stories and characters nobody cares about.

Buy time Arad. Produce a cheap spinoff unlike Fox's decision to reboot FF (they should have done a SS spinoff assuming that would have extended their lease on the FF, although that's a big assumption and problematic in terms of budget). Buy time and try to reacquire some IP's that would help Spiderman. I already mentioned Midnight Sons. I would try some co-productions with Marvel on the TV level. This is where Spidey could have some leverage. If they cannot afford big budget tentpoles, then go to TV and buy time.

I think Marvel, but namely Feigie, is way to smart to enter into some type of agreement with Sony. There's no doubt in my mind Sony would leave a negative mark on the MCU with their Spider-man and I for one am glad it's not happening.

I don't want to ever see Spider-man in the MCU unless it's Marvel pulling all the strings without ANY input from Sony.

They should just make TASM3 and be done with the franchise.

if you want them to quit the franchise, why even make TASM3? if you were calling the shots

it's not like TASM3 is written on stone, Sony is beyond predictability.

I haven't lost complee faith in Sony, although I may seem like it. I ust want to see him with the rest of Marvel. I did enjoy TASM 2 quite well. I just feel like they have no direction. They do care about the character more then they are given credit for, or else they wouldn't be trying to wrong their mistakes. Idc who owns SPidey, I just want his appeal back and movies everyone can like since I'm one of the few who like TASM 2.

I'd say more of a soft reboot. Change some details, but keep Garfield as Spidey. Drop DeHaan/Goblin etc.

Nah, imo keep Garfield and HArry. I think they can greatly improve his character. Besides I loved Dehaan. He was one of the best parts of the movie imo.

Miles!! get in here!! he's talking about your boy! :o

I agree, I think Sony messed up/rushed the Goblin story.. seriously Sony needs to fricking suffer! :cmad: they are the reason they are in this situation! they clashed with Marc too damn much! why couldn't they just let the man do his job!?!?

Sinister Six my ass! :cmad: rot in hell Sony!

In retrospect Sony made a HUGE misstep retelling the origin again in ASM. Everyone that saw ASM (regardless of whether or not they enjoyed the movie) would have felt a feeling of deja vu. That feeling of familiarity isn't going to inspire the general audience.
Batman Begins showed an origin not seen before so it was new and fresh and the same goes for X-Men: FC. We had ALREADY seen the Spider-Man origin and that origin was done well and didn't need retelling.

We're usually at odds, spider-neil, but, darn, I love your avatar. I know you support the Webbverse, but you are fair in your assessments. Yes, the reboot had to establish that this was not Raimi's Spidey, but as you say, it probably would have been better to have just shown the origin in the opening credits ala The Incredible Hulk or as a flashback ala Batman (1989).

The second (and for me unforgivable misstep) was the parents storyline. C'MON SONY!! Think of all the storylines in Spider-Man canon, think of all the directions they could have gone in. They decided to focus on the parents storyline that showed up in the comics ONCE and was a lacklustre story at that.

So ASM opened with the origin that people were already familiar with and plotline that was uninteresting in the comics and had no lasting impression on the mythology of Spider-Man. Really poor decisions from Sony and they are now backed into a corner.

Totally agree! The parents storyline took away from the importance of Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Linking it to Pete's DNA also took away from the original idea of a stray science experiment. It also led to the "magic blood thing" that motivated Harry/Goblin that was another mess up.

Hindsight is 20/20 but they really should have opened 6 months or 1 year into Spider-Man's career. Thrown out the origin and used a storyline that was far more impactful in the comics than the parents storyline. At the very least the parents storyline should have been concluded in the first movie.

The sad thing is Sony already had the perfect blueprint for a Spider-Man series: The Spectacular Spider-Man!

Sony needs a (critically acclaimed) home run with Sinister Six. If there is good word of mouth for S6 the general audience will want to see them again AND they will be paired against an already iconic and popular Spider-Man. A lacklustre S6 will hurt ASM3 no doubt about it.

Sony has been downhill with Spidey movies since Spider-Man 3. The fact that it does not seem to want to at least make a deal to share Spidey, makes want actively hope this film fails terribly so the rights revert back to Marvel Studios. And yes, Goddard intrigues me, but I'd prefer a deal where Marvel Studios takes creative control. They would guide Goddard in a reboot (he's an associate of Whedon). They need to get rid of the baggage of the Webbverse. Then have Spidey make a cameo in a Marvel film to get the GA excited. Then have Sony co-fianance the solo films and distribute them. As said elsewhere in either this thread or on the boards, the GA would probably more interested in seeing a Spider-Man film that was connected to the MCU, like how there is probably more interest in a Thor movie due to his connection as oppose to being totally stand alone.

DeHaan's better than Andrew at acting.

Get him to play Peter Parker...

I think that would be the thing to do for pretty much everyone (except him ofc).

Come to think of it... Arad may be the only one that stands between Spidey and MCU! with his belief "that Spidey should be featured as the main character if he were to appear in an Avengers film"

Sony wanting to do a Spidey universe, then in comes Fox, DC, and Marvel Studios like...
