The Amazing Spider-Man 2 what would you want in a spiderman film?

1. Spider-man to 'feel' like Spider-Man.
I'm not talking Peter Parker, I'm talking Spider-man actually having a character rather than purely turning up to fight.

2. Characters I care about.
I want to be invested in the characters so when they are put in danger (protagonists) or have a scheme (antagonists) I actually care one way or the other.

3. Brilliant action.
I want the fights to be kinetic and imaginative. I want Spidey to use the full compliements of his powers; strength, wall crawling, agility, spider-sense.
I want the villain to actually be a threat. I want Spidey to feel out matched so we fear for him.

4. I want Peter to show he is smart.
I want him to use more than his fists to defeat the villain. Whether he creates something in his lab or outsmarts the villain during the fight. Just remind us over and over how smart Peter is.

This is what I've wanted from Spidey right from the beginning but on top of that now I want;

5. Something new and fresh.
We've had Spidey chase the girl for 5 movies now. We've also had the genetic freak 5 times as well. Now is the time to give us something completely new and fresh that we haven't seen before.

6. A gadget other than webshooters.
It's way past time the spider tracers made an appearance. The Peter established in the 'Webb-verse' is more than capable of inventing them.

7. Daily Bugle?
To be honest I can take or leave the DB, we've already seen it and screen time could be better used elsewhere.

1. We already got spider man was perfect charater wise.
2. We already got i have never fellt has much of a conection with charaters has i did in this movie.
3. We alread got to has the power plant fight is the second best fight in a spider man movie just slightly behind the train fight in sm 2 and the other fights where really good to.

The question was 'what would you want in a spiderman film?'.
I never said we haven't been given the things I listed, I only stated the things I want going into a Spider-Man movie.

Oh i thought it was more like things you want in a spider man film that we havnt had or that could be imporved a lot.

Pretty much what we've got just tweaked a bit.

  • Focus the stories.
  • Introduce more supporting characters and keep them around.
  • Continue to Introduce new villains with good motivations.
  • Don't kill of any more characters for a bit, Uncle Ben, Captain Stacy and Gwen Stacy is enough for now.
  • Less extended sub-plots, thankfully the Parents sub-plot is complete.
  • Feature Peter in College

I think this series is beyond saving.

Even if they make a great third film, the first two still suck, especially the second. Even the first one isn't that popular among the general audiences or critics. It wasn't poorly received but it also wasn't raved about. People don't even talk about it anymore.

GA like em just fine, people don't talk about the bulk of CBMs just a handful of greats.

I never want to see this Spidey in Avengers.

-The ratio (and quality) of humor and drama from ASM2.
-Peter upgrading his technology or creating something new for the new villain of the film.
-Peter the Lovegod: I'd love to see him with people other than MJ (Betty, Felicia, etc.)
-Ease away from Oscorp as the source for the villain's origins. Considering that Vulture, Doc Ock, GG, and other have been seeded, I'd love for the villains to originate from different circumstances and not be connected to Peter.
-Bugle.
-In the comics and in the preceding films, we're told than Peter's a great photographer. I'd like to see some professionally taken films in the evidence to attest to his skill (seriously: any photographer who's taken a photography class would not be caught dead taking a picture on automatic.) It's a minor matter, but still.

Great ideas

Why is this even relavent in this thread? This is about what you want in a Spiderman movie, not what you thought of ASM2. There are about million threads where you can complain about the latest sequel.

okay, the second movie isn't doing so well critically and even commercially and since sony is in deep trouble i hope this means that they would let marc webb, drew goddard, and anoyone behind the projects make some great seriies since either tasm 3 or sinister six seems to be their last shot. if either of them screw up they're ****ed.

That is why it is relevant. The original post makes it as if they must do well the third time around, I'm saying it's too late.

Too late for what?

Not only does the series have many fans but while in decline it still makes enough money to be profitable and among the biggest grossing of the year and there are many cases of later movies in franchises being thought of as the best

with the Parent storyline out of the way, it can EASILY be better than part 2. Which I enjoyed quite a bit but felt it spent too much time with the underground subway crap and instead of developing the villains motives a bit more is all. But Part 3 has plenty of options to go.

I want more of Spidey doing the local hero thing like the montage from part 2. That was probably some of my favorite spidey stuff in a movie yet. Basically more of the first 20 minutes of 2.

After two? Like which ones exactly? You better have more than like, one "case" too.

Amazing Spider-Man received mixed reviews, it wasn't glowing. Amazing 2 is rotten on RT, critics just did not like it. The audience rating is dropping as well. So whatever your examples are, let it mirror that. A mixed first film with a pretty revolted second. And don't give me some big multi-movie franchise like Star Trek or X-Men. Give me an example of a series with a rocky start, and crappy second, and an amazing sequel afterwards. I honestly can't think of any that started off bad then regained respect later. I can think of ones that started good, went bad, and got good again, or maybe started off well liked but got better, but nothing that has sank as low as Amazing Spider-Man 2 so early on.

Webhead, the TASM2 debate has been done to death. Can't you lighten up a little and just have fun posting what it is you want to see in a Spider-Man film? I'm curious as to what you want from a Spider-Man movie. That's what this thread 'should' be for. If you want to wail on the movie some more, there is;

The general discussion thread.
The box office thread.
The Rotten Tomato thread.
The user review thread.
The worst lines thread.
And so on, and so on and so on.

You can rip TASM2 to your hearts content in any of those places, but 'HERE' I'd rather read views on opinions on what Spidey fans want to see in a Spidey movie.

I have seen just about everything I want from a Spider-Man film in the last series aside from a few villains. I'm good. I am not one of the unfortunate souls here who have gotten five Spidey films and not been fully satisfied with any of them and longing for a good one to actually come. That must be a crappy feeling to not like any Spidey movie ever as a fan.

You like what you like but I thought the last series didn't get the 'character' right of 'Spider-Man' at all. Peter Parker is open for debate but Spider-Man himself has no character, he is simply a tool used to fight the antagonist.

I like elements of both series and mix and match my best bits. No single movie has given me ALL the elements of a Spider-Man movie I want.
A definative Spider-Man movie has yet to be made. Something to strive for in future Spider-man movies.

I'd be one of those unfortunate souls. I find Raimi's trilogy to be far from perfect, and this series died in the second attempt. They both have things they do right and things they do wrong. I'm still waiting for a Spider-Man film to be THE Spider-Man film for me. And no, Spider-Man 2, while a good film, is far from that.

I think Spider-Mans character was really shown and brought forth in this latest film. I would have liked more of it, definitely would have liked one more scene of he and electro before Max got locked up. But overall I thought this one nailed SPideys character, and personality.

A perfect Spider-Man who quips up a storm.
A perfect Peter Parker who is clever, motivated and proactive.
A brilliant villain who is engaging and menacing but layered and nuanced.
A well rounded and engaging supporting cast.
A new, fresh and riveting storyline.
The best special effects money can buy with photo realism in every shot.

A Spidey movie that delivers all of that will be the definitive Spider-Man movie. I've had elements of the above but not all together in one glorious movie. I purposely left out love interest because I doubt they are going to top Gwen. I personally think Gwen is the best love interest in a CBM ever. Even better than Margot Kidder.

I totally agree with all this! Though, I think a good portrayal of 616 MJ would top this Gwen.

Yeah, Gwen+Peter was something special. Because what we were seeing was real, and it was even greater as the characters and the people in real life gradually started to be more important to each other as the films progressed.

The love part of it was diamond standard. I hope in time, people start to recognise that aspect of the film for what it was, I was in awe in both of the films.

Very few movies are universally loved. ASM wasn't that mixed it got 73% which is around what the bulk of superhero movies get, it's the 8th highest rated CBM out of 31. ASM2 is at 53% which is low but not panned, that is a mixed reception, it reflects that around half liked it and half didn't, if it was 20% or 11% then you'd have a case of a crtical flop but that isn't the case.

I say just let Goddard take over with him writing and co-directing with Webb.

I'd like a more character based story like TASM (mostly for Peter) but without the studios interference, Get a script you are happy with and use it and don't pack so much In and try and copy other studios

I'd also like for them to do a story that didn't have a love interest or if they do least make it black cat similar to what WB did with the dark knight rises, give is a new dynamic, But I know they will likely add MJ instead, infact I am certain they will

I loved ASM2 but in the next movie the narrative needs to be tighter. In the next movie I want a stronger plot structure. A leads to B. B Leads to C.

Look at Robocop 1989 (my go to plot structure movie)
Dick Jones introduces ED-209.
>
ED -209 blows away an employee.
>
Young exec jumps in with the Robocop program but the program needs a body.
>
Murphy is blown away.
>
Murphy becomes Robocop and is a huge success.
>
Young exec is promoted.
>
Dick Jones is angered his contract was passed over.
>
Robocop starts to have memories of his past life
>
Robocop finds out who killed him and tracks them down
>
The person who killed Robocop blabs he works for Dick Jones
>
Robocop moves to arrest Dick Jones but can't because of a program that prevents him arresting CEOs
>
ED209 and police take out Robocop
>
Final climax
>
Robocop takes out Dick Jones.

A to B to C.
That is what the next Spider-Man story structure needs. A plot line that ORGANICALLY moves the characters along.
Have a story idea and stick to that idea, everything should serve the story and if it doesn't serve the story, cut it.

If the Amazing Spider-Man 3 leads towards the route the first movie did (Amazing Spider-Man) rather than this most recent installment, I'd be one happy camper. The only thing I liked better about the Amazing Spider-Man 2 is the comic book poppy look to it. If it had that look and the story to the first one, it'd be one amazing movie.
