Parker
Identity Thief

I didn't finish either of them, both were boring (Parker started out okay) and after skipping forward, way too long for what they were.

Adding to this, because I just remembered them, I also attempted to watch Evan Almighty and Knight and Day before the two above. That's four movies in a row I haven't been able to sit through for more than 25-30 minutes. I'm on a roll.

I only even bothered with Evan Almighty because Steve Carrell can be fun to watch, I didn't like Bruce Almighty to begin with. First of all I was disappointed that Evan doesn't get the powers of God (at least he didn't as far as I watched) but the point that made me turn it off was when the director chose to zoom in and sit for several seconds on what should have been a background gag. One of those neat little things you might not see the first time through. Heck, it wasn't even all that funny, but the camera stops following a car with the characters in to turn, focus on a movie theater and then draw right in so we can get good clear look of movie title parody. That is just...garbage comedy.

As good as they say? Not quite, but a damn good movie regardless.

Cast Away. Utterly amazing and heartbreaking story. Tom Hanks gives the performance of his life and that is saying something. Just phenomenal. 10/10

Entrance (2012) 5/10 - A cute female lead , but nothing happens until the last five minutes. It's very hard to keep interest.

The Game (Michael Douglas & Sean Penn)

9/10

Red Heat

8/10

Jack the Giant Slayer (2013)

This was alright, it was well directed and the performances where fun, but meh. I can't imagine anyone could make a great film out of Jack and the giant bean stalk.

I'll fight all of you! :argh:

But seriously, I loved Drive because of the style and it reminded me more of Sergio Leone's movies (More specifically Once Upon a Time in the West stylistically) than Quentin Tarantino where there wouldn't be much dialogue or action going on, but the tension was always building. But it's not for everyone. It was like Sergio Leone for better and for worse (he also held let scenes go on for too long and had silences that were uncommonly long).

I guess that's a fair enough comparison up to a point as I didn't feel it used the style as well as Leone did in the Dollars trilogy or was as captivating in the big moments. However I could barely get through 'Once Upon a Time in the West', so it could be a style best judged on a film by film basis.

Charlie Sheen vs the bikers in the bar scene is hilarious.

Moonrise Kingdom
8.5/10

White House Down

I guess the era of the carbon copy film didnt end in the late 80's or early 90's.Remember all of
those body switching comedies(18 Again,Vice Versa,Like Father ,Like Son ?? UGH!!)
3 Months after the assault and taking of the White House flick Olympus Has Fallen, along
comes White House Down with slight differences and less grit than Olympus Has Fallen.

WHD has an extremely slow start introducing Channing Tatum as John Cale, gunning
for a spot in the Presidents detail of the secret service, with his history loving daughter Joey King as Emily Cale
in tow. Then finally all hell breaks lose and the fun rollercoaster ride begins.
Jamie Foxx as James Sawyer, the President of United States does his best Obama impersonation.
Tatum does his tank top wearing Die Hard best,James Woods chews scenery as if he hasnt eaten in months.
Throw in Maggie Gyllenhaal as Carol Finnerty, a Secret Service agent and Richard Jenkins as Eli Raphelson,
the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives and a few more character actors, that manage to remain
straight faced through the most preposterous moments in the film.

There are a lot of great one liners, action sequences and Tatum and Foxx play well together.
I must admit some moments are quite rousing and applauding.

Some moments are loaded with super cheese and there is a unnecessary turn late in the film's already 2 hour
plus running time that just extends the film to bloated land.

A fun romp but just a little to long.

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

The Heat

In The Heat Director Paul Feig ,writer Katie Dippold,Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy have created one of the funniest comedy
duos to ever hit the big screen.
When Bullock's uptight,by the book,F.B.I agent Sarah Ashburn who consistently shows up her fellow agents meets up with the brash and
crass Detective Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy) it's comedy gold. She easily chafes at her methods as the try to take down some
sadistic drug dealers. She becomes constantly frustrated with Mullins which is only part of the hilarity.
McCarthy is amazing,as the foul mouthed Mullins. There is a running gag in the film that should have grown tiresome but McCarthy
consistently makes it work.

Even with scenes that are surprisingly bloody, violent and dramatic,The Heat never loses its sense of humor.Great turns by the supporting cast
equal to some very funny moments.

The Heat definitely has some cliched moments, and some characters are under used, but the over the top fun moments definitely
outweigh anything bad i can say about the film.

Bring on The Heat 2

Scale of 1-10 an 8½

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Damn, the ending still makes me cry.

Dredd - 5/5

In the theater I didn't like it as much but watching it in the comfort of home I really enjoyed it, from the cinematagraphy, set design and Karl Urban doing his best Dirty Harry impersonation this was a fun little action flick.

It's too bad what with the lower budget they had to contain the action in one setting which is what turned me off but it turns out ok, just hope it gets a sequel.

The Watch - 1/5

What a waste of celluloid when you've got Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill and Vince Vaughn playing his tired schtick of wiseguy that was played out in the 90's. And you've got an unfunny black British guy (was Owen Wilson unnavailable?) who is probably known for some show on the BBC which half the cable systems don't provide.

Ok I'm ranting a bit, but seriously this movie which I'm assuming was meant to be comedy lacks in it for 95% of the film, tired old movie references, a plot that goes nowhere and Jonah Hill looking like the only place he lost weight was in his scrawny arms.

Avoid this at all costs.
