Went for Temple of Doom first, rather than Raiders. Willie Scott aside, it's still quality. Solid 8/10.

Dirty Harry ......... A
Magnum Force .... B
The Enforcer ...... B-

Eyes Wide Shut

Stanley Kubrick is my favorite director, but I hadn't actually watched this since it was new, so wanted to give this a second view. I liked this movie. It is certainly not his best work, but I think that has more to do with Tom Cruise. I had read Kubrick wanted Harrison Ford for this movie. I can see why. Tom Cruise's intensity is perfect for certain roles, but in this I think the main character comes off as creepy and intense, where as I think the intention was smooth and awkward. He is not terrible in the movie, but somewhat mis-cast.

That said, Kubrick's editing style and visuals are present and the film genuinely kept me interested in the plot. This may be at the bottom end of Kubrick's filmography, but it's still well worth seeing and better than many director's best movies.

Black Panther 3rd time!

GAME NIGHT

Board games,video games any type of games are the foundation for the relationship and love between Max (Jason Bateman) and Annie (Rachel McAdams).
When Max's brother Brooks (Kyle Chandler) who seems to one up Max in everything and suggest they change their group game night to something a bit bolder something fun becomes even funnier.

First there were some ultra predictable moments right from the start,but thanks to some sharp writing from
Mark Perez and direction from John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein and a beyond capable cast the movie is able to leap over its predictableness

The cast including:Jason Bateman,Rachel McAdams,Billy Magnussen,Sharon Horgan,Lamorne Morris,Kylie Bunbury,Jesse Plemons and Kyle Chandler work well as an ensemble,and when they are paired off.
The film also has several great cameos.
There are great rapid fire one liners,sight gags and oh what was really surprising were the great visuals,and pulsing soundtrack
The movie was completely aware of itself,knowing when to end a running gag that pays off and when to say hey we know we just hit you with this twist several times so were going to end it here.

So aside from maybe a dull moment or two and the aforementioned predictable turns this was a really good,very funny February surprise.

Scale of 1-10 an 8½

Annihilation

In Annihilation Director/Writer Alex Garland melds together great themes from horror movies like The Descent
and some classic Sci Fi films.
For the most part this blend works as this story of a group of military scientists who enter "The Shimmer," a mysterious quarantined zone that is full of mutating landscapes and creatures.

The cast which includes :Natalie Portman,Jennifer Jason Leigh,Gina Rodriguez,Tessa Thompson,Tuva Novotny
and Oscar Isaac are completely capable.
Garland places the audience with the scientists.Scenes were filmed in a certain way in which it felt like i was actually in the film. I was as curious and mesmerized as the scientists were as the beauty of"The Shimmer entrances them and the deadly creatures prowl around them.
There are some scenes that were absolutely terrifying and not for the faint of heart.
Hats off to the sound mixers and editors.The film provides a wonderful visual spectacle.

Some interesting things are brought up and reflected on but unfortunately are never spoken of again.There is a scene in which the SFX was a bit choppy,and there is a predictable turn.
In the end for such a thought provoking narrative the film ends up in a pretty basic been there done that place.

Not a perfect movie but not one i can dismiss either,im glad it has sparked some great conversation,and i hope people check it out and share their opinions.

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

Annihilation

It's a bizarre/fascinating scifi film that doesn't completely work like they wanted. This is pretty much if the director of Under the Skin did a remake of the John Carpenter's The Thing. Although, I have to say, the movie starts out very slowly in not a good way. The first act just meanders before they get into what the movie is about. Once Natalie Portman and her crew goes into the Shimmer and explore, it becomes very interesting. As the story unravels, it gets weirder and weirder. It has some great body horror and great creature designs as it goes from the 2nd act to the final act. As for the final act, it's definitively fascinating to see, but I don't think it was nearly as deep or thought provoking as people make it out to be. Overall though, it's good scifi film, but it's not Alex Garlands best.

Game Night

First big surprise of the year. It's a comedy you expect to be lazy and generic (considering it's by the people who did the new Vacation movie), but it's super funny and clever. They take the 21 Jump Street approach into making the film. They have running gags that work and there's a creepy horror vibe underneath which makes it even funnier. While the whole cast brought their A game, Jesse Plemons was a f**kin riot. Every time he shows up on screen I busted out laughing. They also do the unexpected. Not only this movie was great on the comedy side, it was great on the directing and the cinematography side. There's some great tilt shift shots of houses and bridges that make it look like game pieces. Also there's a great tracking shot with a chase scene that you expect to see in a Mission Impossible movie. Another I didn't expect to be good, the score. Cliff Martinez brought his "Drive" style score to the movie and it works. Overall, it's a shame the movie's marketing department isn't doing the movie justice, because I do think this one of the best comedies since the 21 Jump Street movies.

FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST (2017)
Quality = 5/10
Joy = 6.5/10

Rushed mess of a story, ok looking cheap CGI, nice costumes and set designs, and characters important to the story are either there as just face with no character or are entirely absent. First half is reasonably decent.
The use of the [BLACKOUT]fake soul and memories plot[/BLACKOUT] is weak and pointless in the movie, whereas in the original story it was done for the right reason.

I wouldn't recommend watching this movie for either fans of the story or people who don't know of it.
Though it's better than Death Note, but that goes without saying.

ZOOTOPIA (a.k.a. Zootropolis)
Quality = 9/10
Joy = 10/10

It's one of the few Disney animated movies I came to enjoy in the last 12 years. I'm glad I popped it in once more.
What a nice way to lift my spirits after a dull movie.

Nice scores there. Personally though I enjoyed The Enforcer more than Sudden Impact and Magnum Force.

It might be just me, but The Enforcer doesn't do a whole lot for me.

Watching The Dead Pool now, which I haven't seen in a very long time, so I'm not sure where I'd rank it yet.

The Dead Pool ....... B-

There are things I enjoy more than The Enforcer ...but Rook was pretty lame overall. The plot itself is good, just when they reveal the villain at play...super-meh, deflating the enjoyment. Harry seems softer in this one, too.
