8/10

Such a refreshing break from Disney's crap

I hadn't seen the last two M:I films, so caught up with them in last few weeks, Rouge Nation first then last night watched tail end of GP, which had watched up too the climax sequences (last 40 mins or so).

5 infinitely better than 4, GP was to a certain degree a bit 'ridiculous' in it's 'end of the earth, last minute Bond from the 60's' kind of feel'. 6/10 for Ghost Protocol.

Liked Rogue Nation far more and the action/story was better handled and delivered. 8/10.

Am now up to speed for Part 6 this summer.

My current ranking of them would be

1) Mission Impossible
2) Mission Impossible III
3) M:I Rouge Nation
4) M:I Ghost Protocol
5) Mission Impossible II

Manhunt (2017)
Solo: A Star Wars Story 3D (2018)

5/10

I've never read the books so I don't know how faithfull of an adaption it is, but it's a decent adventure movie that borrows from a few places fairly successfully and Dylan O'Brien makes a good lead. 7.5/10

Evil Dead (2013)

Remains a gleefully batsh**t ride.I will never forget the sensory overload of watching the third act on the big screen. What an experience that was.

Revenge -- seriously good rape-and-revenge thriller from France

In Darkness -- decent blind woman thriller with a lot of twists

Love that movie  I own all the Evil Dead films but that one's actually my favourite!

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Pretty enjoyable all around. Despite all the backstage drama, they were able to craft a straight forward swashbuckling movie that has all the necessary plot elements that make it fun to watch. I thought Alden Ehrenreich did a fine job as Han Solo and his chemistry with Chewbacca was one of the highlights of the movie. Donald Glover as Lando was also pretty good although his imitation sticks out more. I thought Woody Harrelson's character was the glue that keeps it from falling apart. I also enjoyed Emilia Clarke in this and it becomes obvious what they wanted to do with her. A lot of the action was really great and their use of CG with practical effects was spot on. Also I enjoyed the surprises especially towards the end. I usually don't care for Star Wars, but between Rogue One and Solo, I prefer the mission oriented Star Wars movies over their convoluted fantasy ones.

Revenge

It's a balls to the wall grindhouse movie that incredibly well shot and executed (which is usually rare). This is basically Mad Max meets with I Spit on Your Grave. It's pretty gory and probably more bloody than the Evil Dead movies. Matilda Lutz did a phenomenal job on selling her pain and frustration. Coralie Fargeat was a real pro directing this, I can't wait to see what she does next. Overall, I really dug it.

Fantastic film with a first rate performance by Jackman. I liked him anyway but he shot up in my estimation after seeing him in this.
