What's The Last Movie You Watched? XIV - Part 14

Prometheus. What a weird movie. Loved David though. Someone like him would be very handy around the house. Guy Pierce was unrecognizable in this. I'm not too crazy about the whole back story though, and the pacing was a bit on the slow side. Honestly, if Fassbender wasn't in this, Prometheus would have sucked big time for me.

I'll give it a 7/10. Visuals, Fassbender, Theron and one particular graphic scene were awesome. But the whole plot, back story, pacing, and how the movie just seemed to be choppy and not flow well, the sheer stupidity of the majority of the characters, and I just simply did not care for the tie in to the xenomorphs, are major cons to this movie.

8 1/2.

Ironically, I could very truthfully rate it 8.5/10.

No, the movie just wasn't that great. But when you put a black and white silent film that's pretty well made into the mix of the films of 2011, it's gonna win some Oscars. :o

The Oscar nominations themselves have become a cliche in an ironic way.
It's ashame that a body that calls itself the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences would so consistently reduce itself to little more tha a banal parody of itself.

The problem is too many old people. If there are as many old people in the academy as people say. You need fresh and young blood. TSN was really the sign of newer things to come for the academy if TSN won. But oh, wait, the academy doesn't like things that are new that much.

I think it goes beyond that, even. It doesn't even seem like they treat films as either art nor science. The films that always get recognized are always quite obviously for either political or social purposes, or pure emotional reasonace.

3/5

Wow. Some posters or trailers make you think "With a cast like that, it has to be good, right?" And then you wonder, "With a cast like that, if it was any good, I would've heard something about it, right?"

Hunt for the Red October - 8/10

Patriot Games - 6/10

Clear and Present Danger - 7/10

Frantic - 7/10

Batman Begins-8/10

Still my favorite origin story. Would be 10/10 if it delved into Thomas and Martha Wayne a bit more, and if Scarecrow maintained a more comic-accurate look with tattered clothes.

It's actually not that bad but it's not great. Sam Worthington was pretty good and shows he has range as an actor (This film and the Debt).

E.T.--9.5-10/10

My only minor quibble with E.T. is that the kid who plays Elliot's voice is kind of grating sometimes. Other than that, it's an amazing movie. Great characters, perfect score, heartfelt without being sappy, excellent in all technical aspects, and the best part of any family movie--it made me feel like a kid again. This was my first time ever seeing it, too.

Adventureland--8.5/10

I bought this blind because I love Superbad. It was a much different movie than I was expecting, but in a good way. It's much more of a comedy-drama, with only a handful of funny parts (the "comedy" part of it is more in the overall tone of the film than the content). The plot of young people trying to make big decisions in the midst of working a crappy job is familiar, but Adventureland feels more genuine than most of its peers. I suspect it was a very personal film for Greg Mottola. The only thing I'm not quite sure about is the ending. It's satisfying by all means, but the buildup was there for something less conventional. I wonder if I wouldn't have liked something more downbeat.

Superman/Shazam The Return of Black Adam.Very good animated movie short.
