Bonnie and Clyde - 7/10

Some great filmmaking moments, but honestly... this could be done better perhaps.

2010: The Year We Make Contact

2001: A Space Odyssey has been one of my favorite movies ever, but I finally gave this movie a chance. It is nowhere near the greatness of 2001, but it is never as bad as I imagined, it was actually very entertaining.
Movies set in space always open my mind, but this one didn't manage to create a whole lot of questions and/or answers. On one hand is a good thing, I didn't want them to ruin concepts from the previous movie, but we didn't learn much either.
A safe sequel to a masterpiece, and nothing more.

The Expendables 2

Just pure awesomeness, It's got almost everything I wanted out of a film like this. The expendables team worked better this time around along with better dialogue and scenes that is much more fun than last time. Arnold, Bruce, and Chuck Norris was used incredibly well, everything they said or did I geeked out. JCVD was a far better villain than Eric Roberts in the first one, you felt the villainy in JCVD and his crew. I can't wait for the next one, hopefully Simon West returns.
9/10

The Bourne Legacy

A very well made spin off of sorts for the franchise, this really goes right in to the actual program that Bourne was in with the perspective of Jeremy Renner's character. There's a couple of scenes that really stick with you because it feels so surreal. Lots of good performances and I really enjoy Renner in this.
8.5/10

Road to Perdition - 8/10

Ghostbusters - 8/10

A big 10/10

Never got a chance to watch this in theaters even though I planned on it. Finally got a chance to watch it and boy was it great. Never read the book but I have watched Battle Royale and read other Japanese works (Hunter x Hunter, Deadman Wonderland) which reminded me in ways of this great story. Regardless of those reminders of other work this movie is still very much original and packs its western tones in spades but elegantly so.

The encampment "egalitarianism" the people in the districts are kept under was done quite efficiently I thought, and the oppressive decadent hierarchy made me want to hurl so a job well done there.

There's always an uneasy feeling to everything. It's uncomfortable to see the Capitol take everything so lightly and Katniss perplexed and disgusted facial expressions towards it all really do a great job of translating what I would think most of the audience is thinking. Wonderful job by Jennifer Lawrence here as she completely sells the horrific nature of the entire Hunger Game competition is.

The supporting cast is incredibly strong too (especially Hutcherson and Harrelson). They serve as the essential emotional backbone that keeps this story going and what a job they do. Everybody honestly did a solid job here.

It left me wanting for more. Seriously, as soon as it ended I was already ready to know what happens next. Only the greatest of stories leave you with that itchy feeling of "I need more, right now in this very instance".

I really liked what Gary Ross did here and I believe he's the one that also made what could have been a standard run of the mill sci fi action movie into something far more memorable and substantive.

It's really a shame that he's not coming back as I would have loved to see what he would have delivered in the sequel. :(

I watched A Knights Tale for the first time in ages yesterday as it was on TV. I forgot how much I enjoyed it before.

Ledger really was brilliant.

SPARKLE

Sparkle2012.png

Sparkle based on the 1976 film starts on the right note as the film opens in 1968 with a performance from Cee Lo Green and Carmen Ejogo as Tammy "Sister" Anderson, one
of the 3 sisters(Jordin Sparks as Sparkle Anderson,Tika Sumpter as Delores "Dee" Anderson) who hope to form a group under the management of Derek Luke as Stix, but not without much protest
from their mother Emma Anderson (Whitney Houston).

The musical performances uplift Sparkle from it's basic and cliched plot and there should have been more of them.
Ejogo is very good as the sultry Tammy who falls for the slick, funny but abusive Satin Struthers (Mike Epps)
Tika Sumpter is good as the defensive and headstrong Delores.Jordin Sparks as Sparkle i felt was held back or at
least her soul stirring voice is held back far to long in the film.
Director Salim Akil drops the ball in 2 key dramatic scenes when he chose to shoot these scenes with odd camera work and music.
These scenes should have moved the audience instead they just
stimulate laughter.
Whitney Houston,as i watched her how could i not reflect on the great talent that she was, or how she passed particularly in scenes when her character talks about her own bad paths she
took that ended a promising career. As she looks upon Sparks in certain scenes it's as if she was passing the torch to a new generation of singers.
Scale of 1-10 a 7½

Amadeus (1984)

Ladyhawke (1985)
Meh... was expecting better. And I don't really like Broderick.

Short Circuit (1986)

The Name of the Rose (1986)
Six years ago I started watching this movie. I finally managed to get to the ending... I like it a lot.

Starship Troopers (1997)
Intriguing concept, but bad execution. And wtf is up with the awful main actors? Seriously.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998)

Far from Heaven (2002)

Bernie - 6/10 - Just sort of meandered through... never really made any emotional connection, nor did it succeed in really being a comedy.

The Raven - 7.5/10 - A decent serial killer mystery

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

Knowing - 8/10

Having seen this a second time, this is a great film from Cage in recent years. Very underrated. I've always liked Proyas ever since Dark City and he's proven to be a very good talent who is overlooked.

On a side note, I love when Nic Cage gets drunk he watches tigers.

The Exorcist - 9/10

It certainly lives up to its reputation. Friedkin's direction is amazing with wonderful chill inducing and gut wrenching tension that will make you just sit there is total amazement and shock. And this movie is over 30 years old. Max Von Sydow is particularly badass.

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones

Sleepy Hollow, right now on tv.
The atmosphere of this movie is so efective, I love it.

Conan The Barbarian (1982) - extended version

Starman (1984)

Hellbound: Hellraiser II
Nightbreed: The Cabal Cut

I went to Monster Mania in NJ Saturday for the screening.
They're adding more screenings, but if you want one in your area you have to get them to contact Russel Cheerington, he's on facebook or I think you can find him on www.occupymidian.com. I tried contacting him and never heard back, so good luck, I know he's really busy.

I tried to get a screening for NYCC but I didn't meet the deadline.

I hope you get a chance to see it.
