There are interesting ideas about The Monkees looking at their fame and "manufactured" image here, but they're often buried beneath a mess of bizarre comedy segments and music video-type sequences. Some of these scenes are pretty funny, but overall, the movie falls on the wrong side of the line between experimental and inane.

That's one of my favorite Bergman films, along with Wild Strawberries and Fanny and Alexander. Not to mention Liv Ullman is fantastic in every Bergman film she's in.

How was The Passion of Anna? That's on Netflix instant, so I'm thinking about seeing it.

I haven't seen that one yet but a few other I'd suggest is Hour of the Wolf (very surreal and feels like a horror film) and Torment, now this Alf Sjöberg is the director but Bergman wrote the screenplay and was the assistant director for it so in a way it's his directional debut and his brilliancy shows already then.
