The Hunger Games (7/10). Okay movie, i dont get the hype for it though

Anything based on a popular book series is going to have a lot of hype.

The Recruit (2003) -- 2/5
Pretty average, but not bad, just merely ok.

A Genius, Two Partners and a Dupe (1975) -- 1.5/5
I usually really enjoy spaghetti westerns... but this one, not so much.

Vertigo (1958) -- 4/5
While watching this movie I kept thinking, "Okay, good movie, but when is it going to be great?" Then the ending happened. Mind-blowing ensued.
Hitchcock, you magnificent bastard, you did it again.

Bread, Love and Dreams (1953) -- 2.5/5
Lovely, funny Italian comedy full of good performances.

Sex and the City 2, only thing I really like was Liza Minnelli's cameo, priceless.

Batman (1989)

The first time I've given it my undivided attention in God knows how long. Oh man, did I forget just how unabashedly I love this film. Loved Keaton's subtle performance, continuously almost recognizing Jack/Joker, but never quite sure who he is. His eyes really sell what he's thinking without needing much dialogue.

Nicholson's Joker is pretty goofy to be sure, but I think people forget how superbly sleazy he was as Napier. He would've been awesome as Falcone had they adapted Year One.

The visuals, art direction and production design owe a lot to Blade Runner and the film is all the better for it. Tim Burton is obviously synonymous with goth, but to me this movie feels more pulpy noir.

I think the first run of Batman films have all been squashed together as a campy mess, but tonally, visually, this movie honestly reminds me of the Arkham video games.

I think people forget how truly psychotic Nicholson's Joker is. Especially with Ledger's out now. I mean remember when everyone was like, "How can top Nicholson?" when Ledger was cast. Seriously, if you look deeper, Nicholson's Joker really is ****e dup. Definitely more jokey, but he talks to a charred corpse then snaps his neck with his tie and laughs in his face for God sakes.

But yeah, Keaton's performance is just incredible. As both Bruce Wayne and Batman. His Bruce has always been extremely underrated and just as fascinating.

If I saw Ledger's Joker talking to a charred corpse, my soul would die and I would assume the fetal position and cry for a very long time.

I would send the psychiatrist bills to Christopher Nolan.

4/10

Alien From LA (1988)

Always fun to go back and watch films I originally saw on Mystery Science Theater 3000 and see them in their original formats.

If it's been too long, give it a watch!
Finally, someone else echoing my deep and never ending appreciation for B89.

I would say Blade Runner and Batman are the two best interpretations of film noir of the entire modern era.

John Carter.

Just as horrible and laughable as most people are saying it is. Lead actor is no good and the plot is extremely formulaic and boring. No wonder it bombed.

2/10

I did like the dog alien though so two points for that cute thing.

You're actually the first person on here I've heard say they dislike that movie.

I'm renting it tomorrow anyway. :o

You wouldn't be wrong, or any more right! The congested sound stage sets and the heavy shadows oppressing the characters. Isolated, fractured protagonists falling for a dame. Most definitely noir.

In the inevitable Batman reboot, I hope they go the classical noir route. Something like the Arkham games.

Men in Black 3 -- Should have been part 2 6/10
21 Jump Street -- Lots of good fun love how it makes fun of remakes in the film! 7/10
Drive -- Rented this... I need to buy it 8/10
Inception -- Just as great and engaging as the first time I saw it in theater 8/10

Screamers

Very enjoyable. It's a shame this wasn't backed by a better budget, since the script and Weller deserved better than SyFy Canada treatment.
