Where's my @#%$& MARVEL NEWS!!!

ok but which movie is still fresh in people's minds Batman and Robin or Hulk?

If people disliked them so much neither, Hulk didnt make much more than B&R did at the BO WW.

The fact of the matter is Hulk was much more well recieved than B&R yet BB did much better than TIH. If TIH was that good it could have stood on its own and made more at the BO.

It was 5 vs 8 years. B & R was 97. But yeah I am tired of that same tired excuse. TIH just wasn't a good enough film IMO to warrant a sequel.

I think it was good enough to warrant a sequel, its just that the movie wasnt stellar enough to get non-Hulk fans to watch it, WOM obviously wasnt good enough.

I am tired of this Hulk vs TIH BO argument overall. It doesn't matter now. I think that TIH should have made more money. Was there a stigma from Ang's Hulk? Maybe. Even after I did my part to spread the gospel of Bruce Banner in the new installment, people were still hesitant. So I think there was a stigma and this affected the BO. All I can say is that people in my theater cheered at the end of TIH, and they did not at the end of Hulk. But I think marketing played a much bigger role in the WW take.

And yes, I think TIH deserves a sequel as it seems to have a broader appeal (not based on money, but based on less heavy content for the lay audience). But I could have easily seen a sequel to Ang's movie as well. I'm actually quite interested into how he would introduce more traditional baddies, like Abom.

Sorry but I think thats ********, how do you explain BB doing so much better at the BO AND on DVD after Batman & Robin then?

There's a simple reason for that and again comes down to marketing. Batman Begins marketing made it clear this was a reboot, a new start, a new direction. IMO none of TIH's marketing did this leaving people to assume it was just a sequel to 'Hulk' and would be very much along the same lines, which people didn't like the first time around

I think Marvel's sorry marketing for the film didn't help much. We only got a trailer for the TIH 2 weeks before it came out. Not to mention the SFX were kind of suspect. If they made a sequel with the same crew but with better SFX, then I think it would do better. Most people did think this was a sequel and not to mention it played in less theaters.

Yes, it did. Anyone could see in the trailers that the new Hulk looked totally different, with better CGI, than Ang Lee's version.

It looked different, but not better.

TIH Hulk looked like a steroid freak, with all those veins and **** popping out. Too athletic. Hulk isn't athletic, he's just massive.

Ang's Hulk looked more organic and real. It actually looked like a huge, green Eric Bana.

At least he didn't look like a synthetic 15 feet tall action figure with almost no textures. In my book that's improvement.

A different looking hulk would not give the signal it was a reboot in the whole franchise, just in the design of the creature.

If people didnt like Hulk first time around then TIH wouldnt have made the money it did, the fact that it still made what it made despite plenty still thinking it was a sequel proves that the so called stigma from Hulk effecting TIH's BO was ********.

Also, its obvious, WOM on TIH simply wasnt good enough. Iron Man was still in cinema's well after TIH had ended its run, because the WOm on it was superb.

TIH made ok money despite 'Hulk' because of good WOM, not brilliant WOM but good atleast.

But if people hated 'Hulk' so much, as some claim, it wouldnt have made the money it did make. And if the WOM on TIH is good, why are the DVD sales so poor? WOM obviously wasnt good enough.

TIH didnt make money for these reasons (I think)

1. It was released when another HUGE Marvel blockbuster was still in theaters/fresh in ppls minds and people were seeing it for the umpteenth time instead of seeing the Hulk

2. Due to TIH being released to IM, the marketing suffered. I know first hand that some restaurants were still handing out IM toys instead of Hulk gear. TIH was very "under marketed"

3. The reviews although generally favorable were no where near as the universal praise for IM. People tried to compare the movie to IM. IMO TIH was worse than IM but still damn good

So in short, TIH was released at a bad time, just like Hellboy II. Thats why it suffered the most. It should have been released this year...I mean look at this year after Wolverine, Transformers 2, GI Joe there are no more superhero/comic book films coming out. I strongly think if TIH was released this year it would have done better critically and financially.

By the time WOM spread about Hulk; Wanted (An R rated movie for men), Wall-E (A Pixar movie), and Hancock (Will Smith), were in theaters.

And if they do make a sequel just have Norton write it

Yea I think Iron Man blew it out of the water, that's why TIH had bad box office. I didn't know it had poor DVD/Blu-Ray sales though.

I thought the home media sales were decent. 85 mill is good. But I might be grasping at straws here but I think even the Blu Ray/DVD was released at a bad time lol.
Hancock which most ppl didnt like still made a killing because it was released around Black Friday
TDK besides the fact that it was the biggest film of the year was released right around the holidays

He looked too different for a sequel. Also, none of the actors from Hulk were back in this new film, except Lou Ferrigno in a very small cameo. What signals does that give? Exactly.

You wonder how the SM4 marketing will clash with the Thor marketing. And will that have a carry over to the Captain America marketing? I am also of the belief that marketing basically did TIH's chances in of becoming a potential blockbuster franchise. Marvel will have its hands full working around Sony's and WB's marketing in 2011.

^^^^I was about to say that...EIther THor of SP4 are gonna get the shaft majorly.
I think Thor because, even tho SP4 wasnt received that well it's still Spiderman, this is supposed to be THor's coming out party his first appearance in live action and they pair it next to Spiderman? The 2nd highest superhero movie franchise? Its a dumb move on Marvel's part

and

Who the hell wants a Howard the Duck reboot?

Feige mentioned Werewolf by Night with Dr. Strange???? I'd rather they save Werewolf for a Moon Knight film

"Edgar Wright's Ant man is still in the works"
Consider my day officially made. (Reads full article) ""I want to make Ant-Man one of these days.":bh:

According to the-numbers, TIH made about 60million in DVD sales. These figures don't include blue ray sales. It didn't do bad. It did about the same as Ang's Hulk, if memory serves me correctly.

I still don't buy the WOM argument. WOM has to contend with pre-conceived misconceptions which was derived primarily from less than stellar reviews of Ang's Hulk (although I do not agree with these reviews; I have said it before that I enjoyed, and still do, Ang's Hulk) and negative WOM. What misconception? Ang's Hulk was advertised as an all-out action fest, but some fell asleep with under-appreciation when it was slower and more intelligent.

So both Hulk and TIH were incorrectly marketed in my mind. However, I must say that I remember seeing commercials for Hulk that were more "artsy" and contemplating, marketing that may confuse those who expect a smash fest.

TOTALLY agreed with all of this, if both TIH and HBII had gotten better release dates, both would have made more money. Why TIH was released a month after IM was is just idiotic, Marvel should have saved TIH for this summer and they would have had more time for effects and whatever, and they would have gotten a better release date.

At the time Hulk's DVD sales were considered good, were as TIH's generally arent, you say $60 million is good in DVD sales(even though it hasnt actually gotten to $60 million yet and wont for some time)? Well just for comparison, both X3 and Ghost Rider, 2 movies not liked very much on these boards, both earned $103 million in DVD sales. Doesnt look too good now does it?

Sorry, but again I think this is ********, Star Trek had more pre-concieved misconceptions thatn both Hulk movies put together, Star Trek movies in general havent been successful over the years, and only die hards tend to go and watch ST movies, yet look at the new one, its blowing both Hulk movies out of the water.
