the movie didn't just SAY that she was a scientist, it SHOWED it in detail.

Betty has never BEEN a scientist in the comics...so arguing she's a better Betty because they SHOW her being a scientist is like saying Batman and Robin has a better Bruce Wayne because they show him ICE-SKATING.

In Bruce's downtime he secretly has an affinity for figure skating. After all why else would a billionaire dress himself and a young boy the way he does?

Showed at least a hint of having emotions.

Not Connelly's fault though, it was most likely the way Ang wanted Betty.

As someone else said, and I've said earlier, if this were an actress contest, Connelly, but it's not, it's a Betty contest.

Only thing Connelly had against Liv in the Betty department was she was a much more convincing scientist.
Hint of emotions?

Did you miss the elements with bruce where's she's flirting with him unknowingly or out of her mind with worry as she's about to see him hit with gamma radiation or in complete awe and stunned that he survived or the way she interacts with her father on his behalf or the way she calms him down at san fran or her phone conversation at the end pretty much admitting she loves bruce so much, she's willing to never see him again for his own safety?

Tyler's betty was safe and didn't flesh her out. She ultimately became a plot device as bruce's love interest and motivation for hulk.

Her relationship with her father was also less convincing and scenes like the 'no sex' scene really didn't help give her any credit, Not to mention just walking out of her old boyfriend without even any sort of consideration for his feelings.

There are only two scenes that helped her and those were her scenes both with the hulk in the cave and with stern but i have no doubt connelly could have done them better

I can't believe the results on this poll. Jennifer Connelly was a better actor, had better material, and just flat out looks more like a Betty Ross. And to people who are trying to go with story elements, Connelly's Betty fought for the Hulk as much if not more than Tyler's did as well. Plus, the movie didn't just SAY that she was a scientist, it SHOWED it in detail. Liv Tyler's Betty was just sort of there making Hollywood romance faces.

But the action man... the action!

I love it when the Guard swoops in and tells us all how it is.

Tissue? :csad:

pass me one too, i don't understand either although i'm at least glad to see it's not a complete white wash victory.

I'm gonna vote for Connelly. While I thought Tyler was good in what she had to do and had good chemistry with Norton (something I'm not so sure Connelly and Bana had), Connelly again had a more fleshed out character. And there was so much sadness in her portrayal and deep pain at the end. Also, her scenes with her father portray her more as an adult (albeit that was a directorial chance, I believe) and most of all when she sees and calms Bruce at the end in San Fran it is an emotional apex in the movie. Betty seeing Hulk, apparently for the first time, in TIH was awe-inspiring but not emotionally wrenching.

So I give it to Connelly.

Betty is not a scientist?? I admit I'm not that big of a hulk fan but Betty has been a scientist in the Hulk comics and cartoons for as long as I can remember. I don't recall a time when Betty wasn't a scientist.

"Right. Let's get a cab."

I've heard more emotion from Ben Stein. Therefore, Connelly is the clear choice.
I don't think that line really needed a whole lot of emotion. It's not an emotional line.

I have no real preference between the 2, even though I enjoyed the new Hulk more than the 2003 Hulk.

In the CARTOON, yes..in the comics...NO. NEVER. She's the General's daughter, Banner's love interest, and not alot else.

Never, NEVER has she been a scientist in the comics, and I have literally almost every issue of hulk ever published. Even in Utimate Marvel she's a PR rep, not a scientist.

Cartoons and movies have a habit of trying to make her one because I guess they feel she would be to much of a "damsel in distress" without being banner's intellectual equal...personally I never had a problem with the character before...she was a plenty interesting character without changing her.

That's about the long and short of it.

I could care less if Betty was a scientist in the comics or not. In the movies she is portrayed as such (which frankly, makes a ton of sense and adds more depth to her in the context of the Hulk and the issues surrounding him), and THE INCREDIBLE HULK made a point of showing that she was one, and then more less, short of the origin where she's just sort of there, didn't bother to show ANY of that element (maybe in deleted scenes?). It was just used as a plot device so Bruce could use her computer and find out his files aren't there (fairly weak as plot devices go). Connelly's Betty in HULK was much more impressive a character. Not only was her performance far more subtle and nuanced, but overall, she displayed more range in her emotions and her relationship and struggles with Bruce Banner, his father, and her father. She also took an active part in uncovering Bruce's past and his father, and an integral in stopping The Hulk. Liv Tyler's Betty was just there to wring her hands every so often and be lovey dovey with Bruce, and the one scene in the cave where she calms Hulk, and then wring her hands some more.

There was simply much, much more to Jennifer Connelly's version of Betty depthwise, characterwise and performancewise.

Tyler seemed to be a little more sexy and seemed to be madly in love with her man. And I found her relationship with her dad to be a little more strained than the '03 Hulk. In both movies they didn't really communicate, but in the '08 version, she seemed like she genuinely wanted nothing to do with her father after the military captures Banner.

My problem with the '03 Hulk had nothing to do with the cast. The cast was fine, imo. It was the origin they had created for Hulk, the dark fight scenes in which I couldn't see what the 'F' was going on, and Nick Nolte's character in the film being more annoying than Jar Jar Binks.

If I had to choose, I s'pose I'd go with Ed Norton after seeing his interpretation of Banner/Hulk. The actors playing General Ross and Betty are both toss ups for me.

How can you not see what's going on during the fight scenes? They're not THAT dark.

The desert-Hulk scene is easy to see. The dogfight scene was very hard to see in theatres and appears to have been brightened a bit on the DVD, and the final fight with the absorbing man was nearly impossible to make out, especially in theatres (and just a smidge better on DVD). I know I wasn't the only one to think this as I've heard several moviegoers complain about the same thing after seeing it in theatres.

The new Incredible Hulk movie as a whole was leaps and bounds better than the '03 Hulk, imo. The cast (minus Nick Nolte) in the original movie and the desert scene were about the only things I really cared for in the Ang Lee film.

hmm thats a tough one, i would say actress wise, connely, but as of actually beliveing and the chemistry between banner and her, i would say tyler..

Lets not go overboard here. Connelly's portrayal of Betty Ross was not Oscar-worthy, nor was Tyler's. They both did a fine job with what they were given though. No complaints on either side as far as I'm concerned. Liv seemed like (and proved to be) a good replacement as TIH is a reboot and they were not going to use any of the same cast from the '03 movie.

while not oscar worthy I believe it's hard for a female to get and do a respectful part in a superhero movie and considering connelly didn't play the cliche love interest (they didn't even kiss in the film) who was a strong character on her own who didn't depend on the lead male (probably more of the opposite), then i believe she's done the greatest work of the modern day superhero genre

only margot kidder and michelle pfieffer are comparable female leads. The rest in all honesty are really really bad. mystique is the closest but she didn't play a lead character.

While I love Jennifer, Liv Tyler was just too cute and perfect. I liked this Betty WAY better than 03's Betty. This Betty was strong, sophisticated and stood by Bruce. 03's Betty was just off, for me.

I voted for Jennifer Connelly, but just by a tad. I love Liv Tyler think she is a sexy women, but I just think they did'nt utilize her enough. Plus I hated the way they made her look, the hair style was atrocious imo,and to me that brought the character down. Not her fault, but its something that small that made the difference..

I have to disagree I watched The Hulk last night and I thought she wasn't really that good. She was so unlikeable. I kindof didn't recall that movie being so sereal either. It kindof sucked...

The CG was atrocious too. The story was kind of befuddled Ang Lee took a real chance with this movie, and that is respectable, but he failed overall IMO.

This poll is kind of silly. I like Liv, but come on... People are going to vote for the current movie that is out in support of it.
