Damn, Kevin, I'm losing respect for you. lol. Moore and Dalton better than Connery?!

Roger Moore is the funny Bond. Plain and simple, dude. Yeah, he played it straight in For Your Eyes Only but that was one of his SEVEN films as Bond.

Dalton was just WAY too serious. Yeah, he may have been accurate in his performance but he missed one VERY IMPORTANT element. . .it's a male fantasy.

Connery was the best because he knew this was a male fantasy. He had to play it straight and at the same time come across as a male fantasy. Fleming was alive when Connery was Bond, so I'm sure he told him that Bond was his fantasy. James Bond is who Ian Fleming wanted to be!

I voted for Roger Moore.Although the original James Bond,Sean Connery is a strong choice.Im a bit sad that the most recent Bond,Brosnen is the top pick.

I grew up with Roger's Bond, although I readily admit that for most Connery will always be the best. I thought Pierce was the perfect cross between Sean and Roger, so I voted for him.

I grew up with Moore's Bond as well but I'm not a big fan of his. His two standouts for me would be For Your Eyes Only and The Spy Who Loved Me. I voted for Connery simply because I think he just seemed so effortless in the role. It didn't look like he was playing cool. He just WAS cool. Second for me would be Brosnan with Dalton third. Moore is barely above Lazenby for me.

I would have loved to see someone like Connery or Brosnan do On Her Majesty's Secret Service. And I think that Dalton doing a movie like For Your Eyes Only would ahve been great too. I even wonder how Goldeneye would have been if he had done it even though I loved Brosnan in it. It would just be interesting to see how any of the other actors would have played it.

1. Roger moore
2. Pierce Brosnan
3. Sean connery
4. Timothy dalton
5. George lazenby

I grew up with Dalton/Brosnan's Bond but I know better to clearly see that Connery owns all.

timothy is my bond, straight to the point no messing but still charming in an edgy sort of way...

connery is second

moore is too smooth and brosnan is doing a charicature...

haven't watched the lazenby one...

Sean Connery followed closely by Pierce Brosnan

My personal favorites:

Connery
Brosnan/Moore
Dalton
Lazenby

How good they really are,I think:

Connery
Brosnan
Moore
Dalton
Lazenby

Connery is the standard.I doubt anyone will surpass him(or truly equal him.)

Brosnan is about as close as one has come,so far.And a real fine Bond in his own right.I'm kind of sad to see him move on.Thoughgiven the last movie(not really his fault),I guess it is time

Moore was quite good for the most part. And has a nice retro feel to his version that worked for the era.But he went out weakly(AVTAK is one of the weakest Bond flicks, imo.) And occasionaly some scenes got a little too silly.

I like Dalton's The Living Daylights.OTOH,License to Kill doesn't do that much for me.

Regardless,he was was better than Lazenby.I think OHMSS is too drawn out and dependent on scenery as opposed to substance.Still, with Savalas in it,it could have been one of the classics had it been a little shorter and played by Connery.Or perhaps even Moore.George tried,he really did.And he wasn't terrible. But he did lack flair and tended to be kind of wooden at times.

Moore didn't play Bond funny. He just didn't take it completely seriously. Neither did Connery. Connery smirks his entire way thru Goldfinger, for instance. Moore was better as delivring one-liners, so he was given more of them. The Bond movies are not supposed to be taken completely seriously.

He really isn't. He's only serious in the dramatic scenes. A lot of the time he has a Harrison Ford like, "I can't believe I'm in this insane situation" look on his face. He's angrier more than other Bonds, but he laughs more than other Bonds as well - he's just more emotional.

Actually Fleming didn't like Connery's performance at all when he first saw it. He wanted David Niven or Roger Moore to play Bond.

the original, and the best... Sir Sean takes this one easily for me... ;)

it is without doubt Timothy Dalton.

he was simply the best.

i never cared much for Brosnan...

here's how i rank actors' portrayals of James Bond 007:

1. Sean Connery
2. Roger Moore
3. Terence Cooper *
4. George Lazenby
5. Barry Nelson **
6. Timothy Dalton
7. Peter Sellers *
8. David Niven *
9. Ursula Andress *
10. Pierce Brosnan

* in the Casino Royale (1967) spoof
** in the Casino Royale (1954) TV show

:p

I grew up watching Roger Moore as Bond and I think the cliche of saying Connery is best is ******ed. Moore and Brosnan had the best gadgets, best cars too.

They had the best gadgets so, of course, that makes them better.

LOL. And I think even then, Connery's gadgets might still be the best of them all (think about it - the briefcase from FRWL, the Aston Martin DB5 from GF, the jetpack from TB, Little Nellie and the cigarette from YOLT).

i'm inclined to agree... sure Connery's gadgets have become somewhat cliche over the years, but they are notable for just that reason! they were trend-setters, and are envied by millions around the world still today! i doubt very much that any of Brosnan's gadgets will be remembered so fondly by so many people 40 years from now!

Roger Moore for me because his movies were the best.

If I had to rank the Bonds:

1. Sean Connery - Still the best. The coolest, toughest, most charming Bond to date.

2. Roger Moore - The man who singlehandedly enabled the Bond series to endure outside of Connery. The man's humor is brilliant, and even when he was given poor material, he was able to deliver it with class.

3. Timothy Dalton - He gets a bad rap, but he made the role his own and turned in some really great work as Bond.

4. Pierce Brosnan - He's capable and turned in good work, but isn't particularly memorable and was honestly too much of a mixture to be that great or iconic. You can't successfully humanize Bond while still retaining the Moore-esque ludicrousness, which is what his era tried to do. He could have been great, but was rather bland instead.

5. George Lazenby - Great in some scenes, awkward in others, he's by far the weakest of the group. His greatest asset was his physicality, but beyond that, he's incredibly uneven.

The guy is simply put, this generation's Sean Connery. He wasn't as tough as Connery, but he was easily as slick and smooth as Connery.

Slick nd smoothe as Connery? I disagree. Brosnn was good but not that good. Watch Connery's Bond movies, Dr.No, FRWL, GF and TB in particular. These 4 movies are my favourite out of Conner's Bond movies but watch the way he moves, talks and interacts with people. He hardly spoke to people but commanded to them disgusied in a cordial manner at times. Brosnan never did that, in fact no other actor to play Bond has. Just be on the look out for Connery's mannerisms and compare them to other Bonds, its very distinct.

CONNERY - No point explaining why Connery was so good, it's almost universally excepted on the same scale as The Beatles. It's hard to tell exactly, when other actors play Bond, which elements came from the character and which came from Connery. Roger Moore seems to be the least like Connery, and yet both play Bond with a slightly amused attitude which none of the others have grasped. 10/10

lazenby.jpg

LAZENBY - Quit after one film, but he was good enough to have done more. Hard to judge how could he could have been, but there it is. 7/10

200px-Roger_moore.jpg

MOORE - Showed the world that Bond was more than just Connery's portrayal. Easily the greatest at delivering Bond's witticisms, and had the perfect lightnest of touch which actors had back in the golden years but none seem to have today. The most heroic of 007s as well. 10/10

Timothy_Dalton.jpg

DALTON - His only failing is that he took the role too seriously, even for the serious thrillers he wanted the films to be. 8/10

brosnan.jpg

BROSNAN - Really held back by some of his scripts - DAD especially - but the audience pleasing Bond in every way Dalton wasn't. Yet he still played the character seriously and with respect. It's a huge tribute to him that his name will very likely be put alongside Moore and Connery when people think of Bond in the future. 8/10

bobond.jpg

CRAIG - I think he'll be a return, finally, to the Connery style. He's a man's man, unlike Moore and Brosnan, yet from the trailers he knows when the light touch is required, unlike Dalton. And he's English!
