Homecoming Who should be the Villain in Spider-Man (2017)? - Part 1

It's not that asinine. Rhino wasn't a short and pudgy dude riding in a robotic rhino, Harry isn't the original Green Goblin or Peter's childhood friend, Peter's dad didn't make it Peter's destiny to become spider-man, Max Dillon wasn't black and some weird borderline autistic geek. It's not like TASM 2 mimicked the comics word for word. It's not really that much of a stretch within the context of the movie and what they did with the characters.

.... rhino most certainly has been pudgy... and he was short and in a mech rhino in the ultimate books...

and none of those examples are nearly as outlandish as kafka becoming ock...

You said that before yet here you are again :cwink:

They're not as stupid as those. Ock is a Scientist, one of the most popular long running shows had him with a German accent (along with video games and even the Universal Studios Spider-Man ride), and the visual similarity to Kafka and Otto is undeniable.

All it takes is one thing to leave a lasting impression on people. For example with the German accent, when we first heard Molina talk in the Spider-Man 2 trailer, lots of people were asking why he didn't have a German accent.

You're free to feel what ever way you want about the people who jump to these conclusions. My disagreement with you was your denial that these assumptions are made at all.

People make wrong assumptions about characters based on the most superficial things. That is truth of the situation. You may not like it, but that's how it is.

I never denied that there's ignorant people who make stupid assumptions... just saying the assumptions are ignorant and stupid.

and yup.. lets end this even more asinine convo.

My point wasn't that he was Ock, but that tasm 2 is so stupid that it wouldn't surprise me if Kafka had ended up being Ock. Kafka seems exactly like what I expect the producers to think Ock is.

the amazing spider-man made some stupid decisions.. but they never turned a character in to someone they're not... Max Dillon was still Electro... Harry was still the Green Goblin, and Rhino was still Rhino (well a merger of 616 and ultimate anyway)

Rigghhhttt.

Rigghhhttt.

Right indeed... you may not have liked it... and the depictions of those villains were all terrible.. but they didn't change Identity and Persona...

they just exaggerated on some of there comic aspects a bit too much.. but didn't "completely" change who they were. (like your kafka idea)

Rhino was in a mech suit (ultimate comics) he was a russian working for the mafia (616), and he was a meat head who gets embaressed by spider-man (most of his depictions) they just took that up a notch and turned him into a cartoon character.

Electro blue electricity (ultimate), containment suit and origin (spectacular spider-man), Max Dillon uber powerful villain with terrible social skills and self-estime issues (616) though again, like rhino they turned that dial on way too high to schumacher levels.

Green Goblin Harry osborn, daddy issues, becomes the green goblin (616) Peter's childhood friend (never as young, but they've been depicted as friends in grade school before (usually high-school), "transforms into the goblin" (ultimate), kills gwen stacy (not harry, but his papa in the same persona does it in 616)

they made it all over the top... and gave harry normans best story... that was the issues with Amz2... they didn't completely make characters up or swap out identities

Personally i don't think marvel would make apidey rouges bland. Yes we have had some not so great ones in mcu. But some of these villains are not up to snuff like spidey are. And I am sure they will be done right.

one dimensional sure, bland? no. I think there are certain villains that need heavily developed and where we need to get inside there heads.. and others we don't. Electro, Rhino, Shocker, Hammerhead... are all characters I really don't think we need to understand how they tick... Kraven, the goblins, venom, lizard, otto... yes

I think spidey has the gift(and curse) of having so many villains portrayed before) that at least marvel can look at what went right, and what went wrong... where as practically every MCU villain has never been done before. So there's no experience with them

Plus like I said besides for a few we seen so far they haven't really used or have access to a wide range of good foes. Cause guys like ironman or antman for example or even take power man have really lousy villain pools.

Oh yeah, I would love to see some really unknowns like Hammerhead and Tombstone. Maybe The Trapster.

I have been wanting to see him in live-action for years. Despite his relative obscurity, that character has a lot of potential.

No to the Trapster (for starters, he's a Fantastic Four villain, but, more importantly, he's really lame). I agree with the sentiment and the others, though.

we got a Batroc the Leaper cameo in ca:tws.... an they managed to make him cool

^^^ that was not a cameo... at all....

cameos are a second or 2 of screen time.... he was a plot point.

I think a Matthew McConaughey Norman/GG would have potential to be one of the greatest CBM villains of all time. Up there with Ledger's Joker even

I want to see the new Spider-man series treat the villains more seriously again and held as important as the leads (Tom, Aunt May, MJ/Gwen) in the films. Dafoe and Molina were heavy hitters in terms of actors, and both had ample screen time/development/importance in their respective films. We have yet to see villains of that caliber again, and especially now being in the MCU, where villains are (usually, imo) HUGELY undervalued and under-done

I'll pretty much second everything you said their. McConaughey as Norman would be amazing, and would have to be used as an MCU wide villain. Other fan favorite castings like NPH as Mysterio would really help in elevating Spidey's villains.

Yeah, so far Marvel has only casted great actors in their films. Tom Holland and Marisa Tomei are great as well. Hopefully they can keep it up with the villains for Spidey.

Well Said SM71.

Unfortunately it looks as if Mads Mikkelsen is up for Doctor Strange. I thought he could have made a good Doc Ock or even Kraven actually. Then again I think Christolph Watlz or even Javier Bardem could make play the role, or other Spiderman villains .

I also liked the idea of Matthew McConaughey as the charismatic dark other half of Tony Stark in the MCU, Norman Osborn.

I think the villain will be fine. What I'm excited to see is a definitive Spidey. Marvel always gets their heroes right first and foremost.

I'm a bit concerned about the villain. As great as Marvel's movies are, a common weakness they have is the villains.

Well I'm actually a little concerned about everyone with the writers they got.

If Mads is Dormammu though, I don't give a ****. Dr. Strange's cast would be brimming with talent at that point.

Isn't the 2017 movie a Sony movie? Sure, it'll be in the same universe as the MCU, but Sony still has the rights to Spider-Man, so I would suppose that they have final say.

i said it before i love to open the film or maybe do montage scene of spidey stopping random crimes and crooks. And in scenes like those we can throw in some obscure or c/d listers who never headline a film on their own. But be a fun gag scene for a laugh. Then also we lay seeds to the mob guys, and future villains along side who ever/what ever is the main villain plot.

It seems like it's going to be a Sony movie made by Marvel Studios... and Amy Pascal.
