Homecoming Who should be the Villain in Spider-Man (2017)? - Part 1

If or when we see ock again u rather go more like comics and have him that cunning ruthless dude. Maybe play off the master planner stuff.

Like I said I totally want to see the Master Planner/Sinister Six leader type of Doc Ock this time. Think of the possibilities for him in the MCU getting storylines like that where he's leading super villain teams, and having secret under water bases carrying out schemes under a guise like the Master Planner.

That's how they should do a Sinister Six spin off. Build up the villains in the Spidey movies, so that when they do a SS movie the audiences know them, likes them, and will appreciate them so much more teamed up. Not the stupid rushed way Sony was trying to do it with the TASM franchise.

I'm probably a minority here but I wasn't too keen on Molina on Doc Ock. He was fine, but he wasn't menacing or serious enough to me.

I'd be okay with Doc Ock making an appearance in a future Spider-Man film but not the first solo movie. Marvel need to go with a villain that hasn't already been covered.

I'm all for Doc Ock to make a return. Actually, the more I think about it, the more I want him in the sequel already or in the third film. He's too great of a villain to leave out. In fact, I'd say Doc Ock is as much of Spider-Man's arch enemy as Green Goblin is, just in a different way.

He'd make for a truly badass villain with great story, plot, presence and action.

With that said, I yawn at the idea of a Sinister Six build up and film. I don't see story potential in it as of now. I don't see the appeal besides cool action. I'd much rather have a story driven emotional ride of a Lizard story for example. More personal, smaller in scale, which I prefer.

I agree. Always said Ock was Spider-Man's greatest enemy, while Goblin was Peter Parker's. However in light of what Ock did to Peter recently, which was worse than anything Goblin ever did to him, I'd say Ock's totally taken the crown now.

I just do hope they develop and for some lay seeds for future turns for foes. Joker ya i love to see that type of ock too. But no need for it to be a spinoff film. Personally I rather s6 be 3rd solo film. And if we do 1 main villain, a secondary minor threat villain for first two films. We have good build up right their. 4 villains set up already. Have 5th maybe been in the shadows all along and then 6th guy is one of the more Mook guys who don't need much back story on and bam. Got set up right their. Every one wants to squash the spider.

As for arch nemesis deal I saw for me I love both goblin and ock as the top guys. They have both done plently to mess with spidey over the yrs and many evil deals. So I don't have much preferences on who is 1st or 2nd place.

I'm not saying I want Ock's appearance to be in a spin off. I want him as the sole antagonist in one of Spidey's movies. I'm just saying IF they decide to do the Sinister Six then that's how they should do it.

I think they would do that ie sinister and leader ock. So it be different story and new way to approach ock. Then same old same old.

Now see, I think its hard to say what a "true to the comics" Dr. Octopus is, because he goes from generic super villain to somewhat sympathetic villain with moral standards to mass murdering psychopath and back again. Since a lot of these villains get written differently depending on who is writing them, I think instead of worrying which version is most true to the comics, pick the characterization you like best and then explain why you think that work best for a movie.

.

Really? I thought Molina was infinitely more menacing that his comic book counterpart. I was glad Raimi didn't highlight Ock's poor vision or make him a tubby, weak sack-of-a-man. Molina hit the gym and looked like someone who could add his own physicality to the tentacles in battle.

While I'm all for Ock becoming more of a criminal mastermind, I would hate to see him just be a one-note villain. Taking away the sympathetic aspects would just rip out the heart of the character, espically given how the GA perceives him.

I agree. Ock is an evil ruthless S.O.B. but he has human and sympathetic sides to him. I have scans to prove it. Part of the greatness of his character is he's just like Peter. Their lives are so similar. Otto could have turned out like Peter, and vice versa if only for the difference in the type of parental guidance and upbringing each one of them had.

Yeah, a criminal mastermind is not an character, its an archetype. Criminal mastermind is just a role a character plays, but tells us very little about the character himself, its like describing Matt Murdock's personality as "lawyer".

This why suggested Mysterio be a ruthless psychopath in a film, because in the comics he is mostly just a gimmick character, where the gimmick comes first and his personality comes a distant second and that's not how you write compelling villains. Look at Magneto, in the 60s he just a gimmick villain and he didn't really become the iconic villain he is today till Claremont developed his personality. So that's why I kinda want some of these B-list villains to more developed personalities and with some of the A-list villains, I think it would be a shame for them to go from characters to archetypes.

Well we will just have to play the waiting game. And see what plotline, character traits and inspirations will be for x villains and others.

I still prefer to see Vulture or Scorpion over Mysterio or Kraven.

I'd like one of these villains too, but would also be wanting to see Doc Ock return as the main villain at some point. He's just too good. The success of Spider-Man 2 is amplified by his presence. I like Green Goblin, but I'd consider Ock Spidey's true nemesis. And Superior Spider-Man is such an awesome arc.

I think Vulture would be the best choice for a John Hughes inspired film. Most of the time, Hughes films have the kids rebelling against the adults, and Vulture definitely represents more of an authority figure than someone like say, Kraven or Mysterio. Also that would lead to some sweet aerial fights. It doesn't have to be some world saving plot. He was sympathetic in his introduction (his partner screwed him out of his life's work), and over the years, he became a horrible monster. He's tech based but not so grandiose as Doc Ock in his ambition so he never rises above street level, he just becomes more dangerous at street level.

It's the logical progression for a Spidey trilogy, to be honest. There's a lot of connection between plot points throughout each film. Spidey deals with Vulture in the first film, and it's acknowledged in the second. Meanwhile, he gets the symbiote in Infinity War, showing a different side of the universe. Then, the suit is prominent in Kraven's Last Hunt like in the comics.

And of course the whole symbiote subplot culminates in Spider-Man 3 with Venom.

I think the symbiote arc needs more than one film.

Did you read my post?

Definitly. At least one film with the symbiote suit and then one with Venom as the main villain.

First they'd have to need a reason for him to put on the black suit, have him split from it, and then fight Venom. They should have a movie with the black suit, maybe end the movie with Spider-Man almost murdering the villain of that movie, have him tear off the suit then. But before they can do that they should set up Brock from the start of the first movie.
