Homecoming Who should reboot villain be? (Poll Version) - Part 1

Bring on the 6. I think they should continue the plan. Sucks we won't get Foxx back but........sometimes a movie continuity needs to die before it can be reborn. It requires force. This reboot has hurt people and it's going to hurt more.

For me I really like to see mysterio used as the main bad guy. With a minor threat that pops up a few times with someone like shocker.

With of course norman and Fisk being the puppet masters hiding in the shadows in supporting or minor roles.

Wow, lots of Mysterio love around here. I don't get it... to me he was kind of a one trick pony in the comics. Sure, he'd get the one over on Spidey at first with the illusions, but Spidey would figure it out and then take him out easily...

I also have a hard time imagining how they would portray how his illusions work - in the comics it was a smoke and mirrors kind of thing, 90's cartoon was the "Holocubes". Idk, will the fishbowl project holograms? Wouldn't Spidey's spider-sense know they're not real? Maybe it would be a challenge for a young Spidey to learn to trust his spider-sense over his other senses? .... maybe we'd get a decent film explanation of how his spider-sense actually works!

Mysterio fans... what's the appeal?

Well he is a totally different type of villain then ithers. Is a great visual story. And with someone like mysterio they can play off storylines like mysterio framing spidey and play more into the press and public don't like spidey. With spidey then redeeming name in end. Heck I could see some great jj moments with a mysterio story.

He seems like a good fit for the current rebranding of the franchise. Marvel surely doesn't want the new Spidey to seem like a rehash of the previous movies. The villains we've seen so far each got their powers from a questionable science experiment and each had a personal relationship with Peter. Quentin Beck's backstory has neither of those elements, so this could be a story about a villain and a hero developing a rivalry based more on their alter egos rather than Peter's life.

Mysterio's illusions also seem tailor-made for the visual mastery of Marvel Studios. I have no doubt that they could bring Beck's illusions to life in a spectacular way.

But what threat could he possibly pose to carry an entire Spider-man film? I get he has great visuals and the aspect of framing Spidey ... but didn't the Chameleon do that first? Other than visuals what does he have to offer? What are his motives? What is his "great threat" that Spider-man should try to stop instead of thousands of other crimes in NYC? To me, he's more of a cameo villain.

He could have Peter questioning everyone around him as well as his own sanity. He could get into Peter's head with both hypnosis and chemicals, which would certainly have some interesting possibilities.

Sure chameleon is a great one too. By he is more of a spy type guy and not someone who would be a fist to fist fighter. And I know I would be disapointed if we don't have some good fights. I don't want a superman returns type film. Where hero doesn't even punch one guy.

Actually more cameo type guys would be more like shocker. White rabbit. Grizzly. Frogman. And more of the Z listers in spidey rouges gallery.

For me I would always put goblin Ock rhino mysterio scorpion vulture sandman in the top of the pack. Then guys like shocker molten man hydroman. In the secondary row. And then again bottom of the barrel but would love to see as a hag threat Pete take out in short order guys I listed above.

Mysterio opens up a lot of possibilities with the right writer, who has creative ideas. It can be a mind-bender with a fantastic story if they keep an open mind. However, close-minded **** will keep it to the smoke and mirrors b-list stories. It has more creative and fun potential than other villains

Spoilers for people who haven't finished watching Daredevil.

With Fisk behind bars. All hell has broken loose with gangs trying to take over the territory. In comes Tombstone and Hammerhead battling it out trying to take Fisks place. Spidey can battle both trying to keep the peace. Nice introduction for him. They may even hire a superhero goon to try and take out spidey, Shocker? Scorpion? Don't over do it with the CGI. and just a quick intro to any future love interest. Make it about the story and the characters. Don't rush it. Maybe a cameo from DD.

Hammerhead and Tombstone would be nice. A quick Hour Spidey Daredevil team up would be great as well.

Mysterio is first movie villain potential, I think. He's not "dark" like venom, he's not a villain we have already seen, so that'd keep this series fresh. Not to mention, he has a lot of visual potential.

Mysterio can be dark, he made an appearance in Daredevil in 2000 where he was trying to drive Daredevil insane and using a lot of cruel tricks to do so (he threatened a baby, made Karen Page think she had AIDS and hired Bullseye to go on a rampage at a church).

So if Mysterio appears in a film, would he be more silly or sadistic? Would he be some guy who uses illusions to rob banks or some sort of sadistic mind breaker? Though if Mysterio doesn't know who Spidey is, what kind of mind tricks can he really play on Spidey? Mysterio knew who DD really was in that story and I think Mysterio's generally gimmick is more effective against people who he knows a thing or two about.

I dunno know if Mysterio could hold an entire film , but as a major part of a unit such as the S6 I could get behind. That's why I wouldn't mind if Spidey did face off against the Sinister Six for his first film as long as :

A)There's no redemption or forgiveness nonsense, nor villains who'd rather give Spiderman a hug then destroy him

B)The focus of the film remains on Peter Parker and not the sob back stories of sympathetic villains.

Mysterio is truly a bad guy so that's at least a plus in his column, though I wouldn't have him as a villain on his own. Mysterio in combination with Ock, Vulture, Kraven, Scorpion and Shocker could be a pretty deadly combination for a teen Spiderman who may be in over his head with Six foes. Having each foe challenge him on a different level such as Mysterio's more psychological torture with Scorpion and Shocker challenging him on a psychical level , etc would be a way that the team could work together.

I'm not so sure about continuing those plans. I wanted Garfield to continue but time heals all wounds, and people generally accept reality after a while and quit whining. The previous franchise is dead, and if fans want to continue their fandom, they'll get on board the reboot.

The biggest appeal is that he doesn't require a huge amount of character development. He's just an extremely powerful thief. This gives them plenty of time to establish the new supporting characters, while still having a compelling threat to take down.

I think Mysterio is more then thief though, if he was a thief there are way easier and cheaper ways to commit robberies then over the top special effects, I think he commits crimes for attention and fame.

Now when people say they want Mysterio to be unsympathetic, do they want him to be just a jerk or a monster? I agree that Mysterio shouldn't be sympathetic and doing that makes stand out from many of the previous villains, but if he is going to unsympathetic, then he should do something really bad so I have a good reason to hate him, I get invested in the character in how contemptible he is and how much I want to see him get taken down, rather then Mysterio just stealing some marked and insured money from a bank.

I mean Venom from Spider-Man 3 was just a jerk and he was really a lame character. He wasn't sympathetic, but he really wasn't a really evil villain either, he was just some jerk.

Again I think Mysterio as a sadistic mind breaker makes for more of a compelling story then generic thief, because it gives Peter Parker a story arc, having him over come the sadistic mind games Mysterio is playing and becoming a better person for it. If a Mysterio is just a generic thief, there is no real story arc there.

Marvel won't just make Mysterio a generic theif. Mysterio has never been a generic theif.

Perhaps thief was the wrong word, but Mysterio has been written as a rather generic criminal sometimes.

There was one story where Mysterio was trying to scare tenants out of their apartment and Power Pack beat him up, that was a low point for him.

You could write Mysterio as a generic criminal or as a terrifying sadistic man who will use any trick to destroy Spider-Man's sanity. I think Mysterio is going to be the main villain of a film and not be sympathetic, he should not rely on half measures, he should totally ruthless in his quest to destroy Spidey and hurting, endangering and even killing innocent people would fair game for him. If he is supposed to be unsympathetic, then he should really contemptible.

I don't see why he couldn't carry a film. He is a top spidey villain. And with the right story it could hold the audience for two hrd. Ans as for take u would want a middle ground of funny goofy with sadistic undertones.

I wonder if Marvel Studios has any idea yet of which villain they want to use in this film.

Whatever happens it shouldn't be the Green Gobster. (Does that make spidey a Gobstopper?) However... it would be interesting if they still brought in Norman Osborn. As long as he is portrayed as a non-villain, or at least not portrayed as an enemy to spiderman, or a super-villain.
What if... during the Civil War Norman Osborn is introduced as a Hero who becomes the New Iron Patriot. (for whatever reason Rhodey would have to be removed from the role, It wouldn't be super surprising based on IM3) He would bring it to battle on Caps side. After the war he blames the mess on Tony, which causes Stark Industries to crash. After this he builds H.A.M.M.E.R. Possibly out of this "New Shield" we have seen some about. Maybe he has been planning this all along behind the scenes, maybe it was just fortunate that this "New Shield" emerged. Either way this introduces HAMMER as well as Norman Osborn. Stark loses his company, but still has lots of money and (maybe) his technology. (Maybe this would be better to do later... like in SM3. By that time RDJR may be getting a bit old to play Iron Man, and obviously since he still wants to play stark he can be the Stark that doesn't use his armor but instead trains someone else to use it, and pools his money and tech into them.) Actually... thats a good idea. Save it till SM 3 or 4, when fans will possibly be ready to let Stark as Iron Man go and RDJR will be ready to play in the sidelines. Then we can get more IM movies too. Anyhow... eventually Norman can go Green Goblin on everyone. Then Harry will as well. Maybe he uses the Iron Patriot armour and American Son armor, just so that he still looks liek a good guy to the general public, as well as to bring something new to the table, instead of another Green Goblin reboot. Harry eventually turns on his father and helps defeat him. HAMMER is still in the arena, and a new leader is appointed. This may be good for the lead villain in Phase 4. As director of HAMMER Norman could request the names of everyone Registered by the Super Human Registration Act. After this would be when he uses the Patriot armor. (Like in the comics) Heck, we can even bring Thor into this by Norman causing HAMMER to attack Asgard. That could be all of Phase 4 in fact...
Again, Norman should be brought up as a villain in Spiderman, but he should not be the first one, nor the second. Another note, maybe instead of having Civil War the cause for Norman creating HAMMER, they could do what the comics did with Skrull only use the Inhumans instead. Just a thought.

The desire for attention and fame is what sets him apart from other generic thieves. But one of the reasons he's so good for the debut solo is that he doesn't have a complex arc to duel for time with introducing the audience to the new world. However, he does have greater ramifications, as more than anyone else, Mysterio has what it takes to bring about the rise of theatrical, super-powered crime in New York.

yup, they definitely shouldnt waste time giving him an origin

Well not all villains need a detail origin story. Maybe a flashback scene about them. Or within the context of the film we are shown or told there origin bits.

I think it is about time The Looter, Styx and Stone and Big Wheel were done justice on the big screen and given the worldwide attention and adulation that they deserve. It is criminal how they have been underused and it is about time they were given the proper platform that is worthy of villains of their ilk in order to allow them to shine :o.
