Well, logically it should be Spider-Man. However, I have a feeling it could go something like this:

--The anti-psychotic medication Osborn is taking makes him completely succumb to his insanity and re-dons the mantle of the Green Goblin, this time a combination of his Iron Patriot and Classic Green Goblin costume. Perhaps re-introduces himself as the Green Goblin after transforming into his armor form on stage and lobbing a series of pumpkin bombs while speaking before the United Nations on live TV.
--Osborn, given having reverted back to his insanity, has also been able to counteract Spidey's mindwipe/psychic blindspot, thus re-learning Spider-Man is Peter Parker and goes after his loved ones. Maybe kidnapping Mary Jane as insurance as he decides to "go out with a bang" by wiping out New York.
--The Avengers teams, FF, the X-Men, Namor, and Doctor Doom all fight the Dark Avengers, the Thunderbolts, and the Hood's Master's of Evil, while Spidey and the Green Goblin fight inside. Oh, and he gets no help from Loki who, in order to return the favor for Spider-Man, decides to bow out and leave Osborn to face his own problems. "After all, Obsorn" Loki might say "the difference between you and me is, I already know I'm a god, but you've convinced yourself you are one. When you're nothing more, to quote George Bailey, 'a warped, frustrated old man.' Ta Ta!"
--However, just as Osborn is about to make the finishing blow, it's Lily Hollister, a.k.a. Menace, who tackles her lover, Osborn, and--grieved over the loss of her unborn child and that Osborn was using her to be nothing more than an incubator--triggers all of her pumpkin bombs while holding Osborn, resulting in a massive explosion that appears to vaporize them both into ash. Thus, it appears that Norman Osborn is dead at last (until Marvel decides to somehow bring him back). The end result is that the SRA gets revised so that the Avengers, while still overseen by a newly established SHIELD, are an independent organization once again, as well as the Thunderbolts, who are now under the direction of Norman's son, Harry.
--The event can end with Peter Parker at Gwen Stacy's grave, telling her how Osborn is gone for good and that maybe she can finally rest in peace.

Given that Osborn's "fall" will likely be written by Bendis, who virtually NEVER has heroes win his events, even money is on the heroes trying to stop Osborn, failing because they bicker a lot, and then the Cabal taking him down. The moral of, "heroes are inept and need luck or random circumstance to win when it counts" was drudged up for SECRET WAR, HOUSE OF M, and SECRET INVASION, and I don't intend that to change. That said, it would be cool if out of the Cabal, the two who did so were Frost and Namor; the two who actually WEREN'T remorseless villains (at least for a while). I could imagine Dr. Doom laying in some sabotage as he did with Dracula in CAPTAIN BRITAIN AND MI-13.

Personally, though, I'd like it to be a hero. Spider-Man is the obvious pick, but I wouldn't mind someone lower scale. The Marvel Universe would be more interesting if the same people didn't always come up with the big league plays.

I could also imagine a "non political political statement" by having a revived Rogers win. I mean Osborn is basically an allegory for Bush/Cheney, and Marvel has to acknowledge that era in government is over sometime. Why not a year after the fact? It'd probably be a decent story, especially if Brubaker wrote or co-wrote on it.

I think especially after what Spider-man has been through these last few years, he NEEDS to be the one to take osborn down. Let's face it, Spidey's been a joke these last few years and something like this would really help him step his game up and remind everybody that Spider-man is a powerful force to be reckoned with instead of just a comic relief avenger.

Norman only has the Sentry's loyalty going for him. Spidey, the Avengers, Deadpool, Nick Fury, Loki and Doom (!), the X-men and even some of his own people want to take him down. If he lost the Sentry, he would be in deep, deep **** in a few moments.

I like most of it, only issue I have with it is that expecting the general public to accept another Osborne to take over the Thunderbolts IMMEDIATELY after his father went so insane in front of the public eye... its just expecting the reader to suspend too much disbelief.

I've thought about it some more and decided that I still want the Cabal and the heroes to screw with Osborn's plans until he snaps, but I think Steve Rogers should deliver the final blow that takes Osborn down. It'd be a nice, symbolic restoration of the proper order of the Marvel universe, with its greatest hero taking down its biggest villain (of the moment).

Eh, I still would like to see Spidey step up and actually do something big for once. Its the freaking green goblin, Spidey needs to take him down. Would you want to see any one other than Steve take down red skull? Or anyone other than the FF4 take down Doom?

i'd like to see the sentry do it...after he wises up and realises he has been a pawn for osborn all along.
but maybe have a major traumatic event happen to sentry to kick him into proper gear and become (finally) a major good guy.

Or just do the obvious and have spidey do it...but i don't think spidey would kill.

Sure. I like the shared aspect of the Marvel universe. I don't believe any one hero must always take down any one villain. That's why I loved Acts of Vengeance so much.

Spider-Man'll have plenty of opportunities to beat the Green Goblin from here to eternity. This particular time, I think it'd be a much more satisfying conclusion to see Steve take him down after returning. Hope lives anew and all.

I just think Osborne will be taken down by the public. It will be lame but I do not think there will be a battle at the end of all of this. There might be between everyone else but not Osborn. The government will step in a say Osborn has resign to save face that they put him in that position in the first place. Post dark reign will be Osborne seeking revenge and becoming his good old self. I see New avengers and Mighty fighting Dark avengers and the Hood and company. However the hood's gang and the dark avengers excluding the ones that jump ship will be in there old villian costumes.

If not any of the above. It will be the Sentry. He will explode for whatever reason killing himself and osborne in the process.

The public's in the tank for Osborn, I don't see them taking him down. Marvel Universe citizens clearly prefer outright menaces to genuine heroes in those in charge. It's been more than proven. I blame Celestial genetic tinkering.

Spider-Man could get the win; since Bendis will more than likely be writing or co-writing IRON PATRIOT ACTS which I will assume will be the "event mini" that wraps DARK REIGN up, and he writes New Avengers, it is certainly possible. Once upon a time in ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN, Spidey actually got to take down his own threats including the Goblin...it just hasn't been for about 2-3 years.

Steve Rogers also gets high odds. It would be a sure-fire way to build off REBORN, which Osborn has become involved with. While Marvel of course denies any political leanings, virtually everyone in the entire fictional based media is in the tank for the Democrats, and now is certainly the time to do a, "we love America because Dems control the government and so it is just and good again" which happens pretty much whenever a Repub is out of the White House in comics (notice how many, or few, "government is evil" stories there were in comics during the Clinton Administration). And that would be fine, real feel good, proud-to-be-American stuff that always was cool in the 80's. It would at least end the reliance on Bush-era plots in comics a bit. I mean Hope and Change is in the air! The corruption stories have become a tad overdone these last 8-9 years.

The problem is always that Bendis is the one writing it, and he hasn't executed any idea well since about the second third of his DAREDEVIL run.

satisfying to you perhaps but not to anyone else IMO. It would be like superman takeing down Joker if he took over the world. Osborn ad Peter have a long history together, their hero and arch nemesis. It would be much more thrilling story wise. Theirs no emotion betwen Rogers and Osborne, theirs no sense of hatred or remorse over past ecounters.

These two phrases together do not compute. You're only speaking for yourself, same as I am; and, judging by the poll, there are still plenty of people even among our small, insular fan community who wouldn't mind seeing various others besides Spider-Man take Norman down.

As for the story repercussions, I already mentioned that there's a symbolic significance to Steve taking Norman down. I imagine Steve wouldn't be too happy to see what Norman's done to the country he loves and has fought his whole life to defend and preserve, either. So there's some emotional significance there as well. Whether it's on par with Spider-Man and Norman's enmity for each other is, again, debatable based on personal opinion. I'd much rather see Steve handle a threat to the whole nation as opposed to Spider-Man and Osborn's personal conflict rehashed again on a larger stage.

Theirs a much more massive "symbolic significance" to Peter takeing him down.

And yet, still just an opinion, which need not--and in fact doesn't--have any bearing on my personal opinion.

Besides, a lot of people likely voted based solely on tradition. I'd like to hear some specific reasons other than, "He's Spider-Man's nemesis" or "Spider-Man's always beaten Norman in the past."

That would be hilarious. And hey, if she's good enough to own Thanos... :)

Who should do it? Loki of course. **** doom and the other members, I want loki to come out on top in this, he's long past due. Plus since the next big event is the siege of asgard it would start the set up.

The only flaw? Loki's not a chick anymore and there's no way bendis is letting this go down without some massive chick dues ex machina play, so what stillanerd said would fit his formula to the letter.

Frankly as much as I'd like to see steve or peter do it, the goblin powers inside iron man's suit means osbone outclasses both of them by considerable amounts.

Ah, that don't mean squat to Steve f***ing Rogers. He punted Iron Man around during Civil War, after all. ;)

of course its going to be a three way battle between Sentry, Osborne and Moon Knight (Jake Lockley) to see which one can out crazy the other.
