Charles Xavier accent in the comics could be anything really given the amount of time he spent away from america.

In the comics to escape his step-dad as well as complete grad school Xavier went to Pembroke College, Oxford University when he was 16 and stayed in the UK for several years. Xavier went to fight in the Korean war and then Xavier went globe trotting around the middle east where he met Magneto. Xavier goes to the Himalayas, gets his legs crushed and ends up in India. Xavier finally returned to the U.S to start his school.

How do you explain Picard then?

Although I would have hated it if he had a French accent.

- Sacrebleu. Klingons on ze starboard bow? Merde!

I saw V/H/S Viral the other night and I would love to see a big budget magic fight like they had in the magician segment of that film.

Strange is American and he will not be cooler if he's British. This is exactly the reason I wanted an american actor cause I knew the whiny @ss fanboys would start going on about "oh he should have a British accent". No he should not!

The way some you mofos carried on about how this man is the second coming of christ in acting form then it shouldn't be a problem for the GREAT CUMBERBATCH TO DO AN AMERICAN ACENT. If he's supposed to be darn talented he should be able to craft the perfect american accent.

He does good American accents in 12 Years a Slave and August Osage County. Watch him in those two, his American accent is believable.

Patrick Stewart is like Sean Connery. It doesn't matter what nationality they are playing they will use their own accent.

Sean Connery has played a Egyptian raised Spaniard, a Irishman, a Russian submarine captain and they all sound like Sean Connery :woot:

The perfect American accent is a British one  :woot:

Thank you for that gif Butch.

Nokio, fans don't decide which accent Cumby is going to have.

Cumberbatch seems like a dude who could wear a cape and say spells without it looking stupid.

Anyone who has seen Four Lions, Starter For Ten and Sherlock season 3 knows he can do comedy if Marvel want to add some comedic stuff to Strange.

@kendrall

Well you may not agree or like it but Harry Potter is officially the most famous Wizard of all time in fictional history. He may be 2nd only to Merlin. Doesn't matter if Strange and Loki were created before HP so using him as an example is fine. Unless that is you can name other famous Wizards that just about anyone on the planet can identify. Sorry dude it's HP.

Maybe Cumberbatch can change that but it's highly doubtful. Potter has gone down as one of the most famous characters in literary history.

So you can believe that a man can do magic and fights demons from alternate realities but having a British accent is too much?

If she's not going to be Carol Danvers, how about Jessica Chastain as Clea?

So, do we want him in a more toned down look or do we want him in full on high collared mystic pimp look?

OMG, come on man, You know that's not what I'm saying. Don't put words in my mouth. Dr Strange is an American superhero. Why does he need to be changed to British? Because of some fanboy rants screaming that he'd sound better British? It doesn't make the character cooler or better. That's ridicules. Strange has been American forever. He's from Philly. Why does he need to now be changed? How exactly is that going to make the movie more relatable to people? We're getting into FOX and Singer territory here, by making unneeded changes for no other reason then you can. There is isn't one shred of prof that says the story will be more easily adaptable if his birth origin is changed.

if strange is to be a major player in the next phase, they had to get someone with big time charisma and someone that brings power to the role like rdj did. cumberbatch does that. this is fantastic casting...like almost spot on casting. he plays arrogant and quirky perfectly.
