Who will be Strange? - Part 3

I really like the idea of Jake Gyllenhaal as Doctor Strange. I'd like for him to play some kind of superhero. He's been trying for parts since nearly replacing Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man in Spider-Man 2 and testing for Batman in Batman Begins, and he was actually my pick to be the new Batman in the upcoming films before I heard they were skewing older.

He is probably the only guy out there who is the perfect fit for both Batman and Spider-man

This guy gets my vote...

Mark Strong and Clive Owen would both be decent.

Good options talked about in this thread, definitely like most of them. I'd like to add a bit surprising one that I think might do good being Strange. And that's Sean Patrick Flanery.

Quite liked him in the last Dexter season.

Patience is a virtue, but it would be nice to get a name attached within the a month's time to quell the rapid rumors about this movie.

Although, with a Nov. 2016 release date, they probably don't need a name attached for at least six months.

Heh... I've been paying attention to Benedict EverlastingGobstopper's press lately for The Imitation Game. He's actually started growing on me now, with his charming dry wit and occasional bursts of spontaneous vulgarity. And I really loved his appearance on the Daily Show a lot; he was charming with Jon, especially when Stewart channeled his inner fangirl.

I'm surprised people are surprised that he would say anything to either confirm or deny. It's just like with Rudd; BC ain't saying a word until Marvel says something.

I would love it if they announce castings of multiple roles along with CucumberMelon's.

He's pretty funny when he's on the Graham Norton show, especially the one where he was with Chris Pine for Star Trek. His impression on another episode of the show was pretty funny too.

I was never really AGAINST Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, but after seeing his stunning performance in The Imitation Game, I definitely feel a lot more excited about the possibility of him playing the role.

Will we get DS news soon now that D.C. announced SS cast? Hopefully Wong and the villian is announced as well.

His role in Penguins of Madagascar is what got me. :o

I don't know but MS better get this DS casting BS taken care of already. How do you like them apples? Oh, and F Wong right now.

inment ✔ @Marvel Follow OFFICIAL: Benedict Cumberbatch to play #DoctorStrange, in theaters November 4, 2016:

BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH TO PLAY DOCTOR STRANGE

Benedict Cumberbatch has entered the world of the mystic arts.

The actor will star in Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” scheduled to hit theaters November 4, 2016. The film, directed by Scott Derrickson with Jon Spaihts writing the screenplay, will follow the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

“Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” said Producer Kevin Feige. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”

Cumberbatch rose to international prominence with his critically acclaimed turn as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most famous creation in “Sherlock,” currently preparing its fourth season. The series’ most recent season earned Cumberbatch the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie in 2014, after winning the BAFTA/LA Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year in 2013.

Cumberbatch most recently starred in “The Imitation Game,” playing famed mathematician and logician Alan Turing, and will soon be seen in “The Hobbit: The Army of the Five Armies” as Smaug and the Necromancer. For the role of Smaug, Cumberbatch stepped into the world of motion capture to bring the dragon to life. He will next be seen in Scott Cooper’s film “Black Mass,” the story of Whitey Bulger coming to theaters next September, where he stars opposite Johnny Depp and Joel Edgerton.

The star’s other credits include the Academy Award-winning “12 Years a Slave,” “War Horse,” “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” “August: Osage County,” “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “The Fifth Estate,” and “Parade’s End.” Benedict will be returning to the stage this summer in Hamlet at the Barbican with Lyndsey Turner directing. His last stage performance in Danny Boyle’s Frankenstein opposite Jonny Lee Miller awarded him the Olivier.

With “Doctor Strange,” Cumberbatch is just the latest actor to join the bold Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, introducing new heroes and continuing the adventures of fan favorites across multiple films.

Cool. I'm glad we finally have an announcement and I think he's a good choice.

Am I right in thinking The Imitation Game hasn't been released in the US yet? Anyone remotely curious about seeing Benedict Cumberbatch at his best really must go see this movie. He gives an utter powerhouse performance in it.
