Who will be Strange? - Part 3

OMG, come on man, You know that's not what I'm saying. Don't put words in my mouth. Dr Strange is an American superhero. Why does he need to be changed to British? Because of some fanboy rants screaming that he'd sound better British? It doesn't make the character cooler or better. That's ridicules. Strange has been American forever. He's from Philly. Why does he need to now be changed? How exactly is that going to make the movie more relatable to people? We're getting into FOX and Singer territory here, by making unneeded changes for no other reason then you can. There is isn't one shred of prof that says the story will be more easily adaptable if his birth origin is changed.

Chiwetel Ejiofor got nominated for an Oscar for playing an American. Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, Tom Hardy, Russell Crowe, Nicole Kidman, Naomi Watts, Naomie Harris, Clive Owen, Ewan McGregor, Anthony Hopkins have all played Americans. Hell, Tom Hiddleston is going to play Hank Williams Sr very soon.

So how is Cumberbatch playing an American different then what these other British/Aussie actors have done?

I'm not that bothered. It is a very tiny change that wouldn't effect the story at all. I doubt we are going to have much on his childhood/upbringing.

I think it would be nice for him to have a British accent. The Avengers are jam packed with Americans it would be nice to have a change. Although with the Vision it might not be necessary.

Great news. Cumberbatch was my first choice and I was sad when it looked like Phoenix might get the part, especially as he is reluctant to commit to a franchise. It will be good to see Cumberbatch playing Strange. I do hope he has a classic costume though.

This is a very interesting casting in terms of discussion among fans. It’s cool to see people accepting of him turning in a good performance, but disappointed—not b****ing, disappointed for him being a rather obvious choice. IMO I love the casting and can at least tolerate these discussions. People would be whining even more if someone like Leto was picked (still wouldn’t have minded him either tho).

I don't have an opinion of Cumberbatch either way...but this casting pleases me.
