The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Who would be the best MJ?

She's been brought up before but I'm really starting to warm up to Margot Robbie as a potential candidate for MJ. I have a feeling after The Wolf of Wall Street and Focus, her stock is going to rise.

The only downside (even though I would have zero issue with it) is she really has a mature look to her. Even though she's only 23. She looks older than Garfield, Stone, and DeHaan but (ironically enough), is much younger than all three of them.

I still see alot of potential in her and could possibly end up (along with my girl Jane Levy) on Sony's shortlist, if they do need to find a new actress.

Anyone have any other suggestions, of not just necessarily who you think would be good, but who would have a legitimate shot at the role based on potentially breaking out and career momentum?

^ That was my issue with Margot--she appears much older than her actual age, at least in most of the photos I've seen of her. Again, she's a very pretty girl and probably a good enough actress (I only know her from one show) but it may be difficult to convince me and possibly others that she's a college freshman. Just sayin.

I've always been a big supporter of Robbie. If Woodley doesn't return and Sony needs to find a replacement, I think she'd be a great choice. She's a talented comedic and dramatic actress, bears a strong resemblance to the character, is the perfect age, and her career is in the right spot and has the right amount of momentum to take on a character like MJ (with roles in some major films hitting American audiences within the next year or so- an in demand actress soon to be a household name like Woodley): everything just adds up. I agree that she has a more mature look, but as Scarlet Spider said, she's younger than the rest of the cast and I still think that its something that can be toned down considerably with the right styling and makeup. If Chris Zylka can convincingly play a 17-18 yr old, I think Robbie can play a college student. She's not even that much older than one. Still interested in seeing what Woodley has to bring to the role though.

Btw, just thought it was interesting that she and Emma Stone are both being considered to play Jane in a new live action Tarzan film franchise.

I really hope Shailene returns.

Me too. I fear that after Gwen dies, a Hottie Hotterson of a girl would just look unsympathetic and like a man thief (not my term, lol). Woodley has that "alternative prettiness" that I think contrasts nicely with Emma Stone's.

That's the problem I have. The masses seem to think Emma Stone has a goddess-like beauty wheras I think she has more of a girl next door beauty. Shailene also has more girl next door looks IMO, but I think one of them should be more unattainable looking than the other.

Margot Robbie could work fine. If you look at Tom-Erica-Kristin on Smallville, when Erica appeared her look was much more mature than the others. But she really fit into her part of Lois and by the end looked younger than Tom. Maybe a similar thing might happen with Margot.

I was also going to suggest Elizabeth Olsen.
But it looks as though she is already tipped to play the Scarlett Witch in the next Avengers movie, so she probably wouldnt be able to play MJ as well.

Someone sugested Ashley Benson, who could definitely be an option.

Ashley Benson... mmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Still got to throw Alexis Knapp out there:

^ Knapp and Benson are pretty girls, but (realistically speaking) based on their acting credits, I don't think the people at Sony would ever consider them for a role in the TASM franchise. Knapp has done a lot of B/C list thrillers and comedies- the most noteworthy thing being Pitch Perfect- nothing that I think would garner a lot of attention or speak for her talent as an actress (at least enough to be the female lead of a major film franchise). The same pretty much goes for Benson, who mainly does television work. Elizabeth Olsen would be a good choice as a replacement, but she'll probably end up playing Scarlet Witch. I doubt she'd do both.

I do see your point about Ashley Benson. She is in Pretty Little Lyers, which hits the same target audience, but the only other thing she's going to be in (at this time) is The Great Migration, but that's just voice work...

I think Knapp has done the type of movies that plays right to the target audience.

Pitch Perfect was huge with this group and so was Project X.

Cavemen, Vamp U, The Gilded and a few others will be coming out over the next year and again they target the same audience.

Alexis Knapp has the look and is known with the main target audience. She could work!

it seems like every hot girl you guys put on here has " the look " its ridiculous guys. pick a girl that actually looks like MJ for once

But (despite having blonde hair) Margot Robbie does look a lot like classic 616 MJ. More so than any other actress that I've ever seen. On top of that, she actually has talent to back up her looks. Even if she never comes close to playing the character in any film or television show, she sure would make a good artistic reference.

edit: @ SuperJim. Based on the actors and actresses that they have already cast, I just think that Sony is looking for a fresh face who is capable of giving a strong performance and who has the potential to garner both public attention and critical acclaim. At this point in her career, I don't think that they would consider Knapp, even if Pitch Perfect and Project X were financially successful and reached the target audience. Robbie ,however, is fairly in-demand within the industry, has starred in a Scorsese film, has acted opposite some very talented high profile stars (Leonardo Dicaprio, Will Smith, Rachel McAdams, Matthew McConaughey, Michelle Williams, etc.) and has competed for roles with some very in-demand award winning actresses (including Emma Stone herself). A very impressive resume for an unknown who just moved from Australia.

lol. All of those illustrations of Mary Jane look completely different aside from the scalloped bangs, thick eyelashes and a white block of teeth. I am endlessly amused by the notion of comparing all these vastly different iterations of an illustrated comic book character (in some drawings she has big, round eyes, in others small and squinty, in some a round face, in some triangular and some square) to a real human face. I guess you're going to see exactly whatever it is you want to see.

not more ridiculous than comparing real human beings to drawings and having that be the argument as to why someone would do a good job portraying the character.

That's not what sl500jazz was doing.

Go back and read sl500jazz's posts. He/she has given multiple valid reasons as to why Robbie would make an excellent MJ. From not only being a good dramatic and comedic actress, to being on the verge of breaking out in legitimate A-list projects, including playing the female lead in a film directed by a legendary director.

He/she posted that picture comparison after someone requested an actress who looks more the part. That wasn't the basis of their argument.

@ fuflipflops Look who's back! Could have predicted this one as well.

Ugh! These arguments really are unnecessary and totally headache inducing.

No that wasn't my argument for Robbie at all. Please read carefully. It's like you ignored everything else I had to say about Robbie's talent and career. Atiba asked why all of the actresses suggested looked nothing like MJ, I said that I thought the actress that I suggested ( if Sony ever needed a replacement) resembled several illustrations (drawings based off of actual human beings) of the character, not that she should be cast just because she looks like Romita or Rivera's version of the character. If that were the case, then forget Shailene, Olsen, or Robbie there are plenty of supermodels/wannabe actresses for the job.

Ridiculous some people come on here just to go for the jugular.

notice how i was replying to the "ridiculous" comment re: vid's very much reasonable reply, and not to any poster in particular. you're not the only one posting pictures comparing them to the drawings, this entire thread is made out of posts like this. but getting so defensive is not exactly helping disprove my point.

Looking at all the terrible pictures of Shai is funny. She's pretty, just some really bad pics out there.

Truth is Shai was used badly during filming of TASM2. IF they use her again, and personally I hope they do not because I never saw her as Mary Jane, even though she is honestly a pretty, girl next door actress, they need to do a better job!

explain how she was used badly instead of just saying that.
