I really want to choose Both Fox and writers...too bad there's no this option.

Ratner, the writers...bahh. Everything was just underdeveloped and rushed. Slapped together, no character development and a sort of weak plot. It was like everything was just racing up to the "final battle"...which was lame as it was. I was thinking, that's it? It could have been way crazier, even without having Jean go psycho and ash everyone and everything to death. Was expecting some confrontations, and then the huge battle, worthy of all the hype. It kinda reminded me of the Fantastic Four letdown...classically I guess there's the first confrontation (or two) between the bad guys and the good guys...then the final battle, which tops them. Urgh, so bottom line, they're all to blame. hahah

Haha. Yep, that's pretty much the consensus.

I'm just gonna say Ratner. I think Singer did an excellent job on the previous ones.

FOX

Instead of taking their time they found the first Director & Crew that would say yes to their demands & everything else. Sure Ratner got to tweak the script a bit but everything else = FOXs faullt. They let their egos get int he way instead of taking their time like usual

Wasn't there some other guy who was slated to direct and dropped out? Vaughn or something?

Yep & they are using the excuse that at the last minute he dropped out because he did not want to be away from his family for so long. When I am sure he would have known that from the start. I think FOX is covering up their own ass & they had creative differences. But sadly we will never know

Was singer ever supposed to direct? or did he decline from the beginning in favour of SR? Funny how they hafta go through a few directors...maybe they were censored (by fox?)

from what I understand from reading these boards and keeping up on the production since X2 hit dvd...it was FOX that didn't seem interested in his approach or pitch about filming X3 and X4 back to back...however...I've read and seen some behind the scenes Superman stuff...and Singer and his boy toy writers Harris and Daughrety wrote and concieved the idea while vacationing off the success of X2 that summer...so, he had the ideas for both movies and chose the studio that was most eager to work with him...WB loved the idea because they probably trust what Singer had done with the X-men and hoped they'd finally get the right kind of director to do Superman...but we also know that Singer is a fan of the old Superman movie, is a friend of the Donners even before X-men I believe, and pretty much favored Superman over the ideas he had for X3.

I said it before, I'll say it again.

All of them. It took a team to ruin this franchise.

Okay i've some insider info...a friend of mine in LA went to a special writers-to-be screening of X3, held by Simon and Zak....my friend said they were very cool and went on to trash FOX left and right, heres why........

Simon and Zak were hired on to write...FOX officials approached each of them separately and said something along the lines of...Okay we'd like to see your draft of the X3 script we may not use it because there are several writers working on this for us but we will still pay you...this was a flat out lie about there being more than a handful of writers....it was either Simon or Zak who found out they were indeed the only 2 writers working on the script...they approached thier agents, neither one wanted to lose the job or hand in script that would later go through all these other changes...so Zak and Simon joined together to write the exact same script to turn into FOX...I'm not sure how it all played out but they really ensured that no one else would be able to touch thier script...except maybe once it was finalized the directors could make changes...Simon and Zak told FOX at some point that they knew there were no other writers and I think threatened to walk away from the gig if they weren't given some kind of control...FOX agreed to make them head writers but did ofcourse give them a few direct orders to write Cyclops out of the script...Simon and Zak also told this audience of aspiring writers that studios like FOX do this all the time...they'll tell you they want your script and you will get paid...but, your script and several others all get turned in and they combine the best of each script handed in...the fact that Simon and Zak tried to stop this from happening and succeeded makes me a little proud of their small victory...however, if they indeed were the main writers then they are to blame for a some bad dialogue and a few "how did they get their?" plotholes...as for being told, once they cornered FOX into allowing them to write the script together, to write off certain characters...well, I blame FOX ofcourse.
So, give Zak and Simon a little more credit for trying to fight for this film to be true and as good as the originals...although I am not a fan of some of thier previous work, I am glad that we had them...because it was gonna be thier two separate scripts then a bunch of corporate hired proof readers who would tweak, change, and re-edit the entire script to FOX's satisfaction...a bunch faceless no name english majors who flip through each page and cut out stuff that fits a budget the studio wants to support.
hope you liked that little tid bit...unfortunately my friend who told me all this didn't really ask the hard hitting questions because he doesn't know much about X-men nor had he seen X1 or X2, but he was there for the writing seminar and met and talked with Kinberg and Penn and said they were cool as hell, and he appreciated that now that it was all done and over with they still weren't afraid to bash the studio a little.

What do you think will happen if there is an X4? what if they did a complete overhaul (director, studio, etc.)? Will singer ever return? I read somewhere that he had beef or something and "would not be returning to do X4"...is that true

I doubt Singer will return while Fox still owns the license. :(
I'm all for supporting Joss Whedon for Director and co-writer.

Why isn't there an option on the poll that selects all three?

FOX---the CEO or whoever is in charge of this production pushed this thing TOO fast, they didn't give this movie enough time to be done in a way that truly justified the end of the X-Trilogy:(

RATNER: he's a wolverine/storm fanboy, I'd want a director who is an X-MEN fanboy:( (hey! and I like Wolverine:up: and Storm:up: !!)

WRITERS: Too many cliche'd lines and inspirational "If you're with us then be with us" crud, that no one sounded fluid or natural in conversation.:(

X-3 delivers for a comic book movie, but it's nowhere close to the raw, realistic emotion singer tapped into.

BTW I'm not a Singer fanatic, I think he did some stupid things too, but I liked his interpertation better.

Let's just make our own movie. I'll be Jubilee, because, erm, I look the part lol. No wait I actually want some screen time! I'll be Kitty, I'm her size. hehe. Someone join me :D.

Oh and Whedon is great, Buffy had some of the snappiest writing ever. loved it.

Oooh, ooh! I wanna be Halle Berry! ooops, I mean Storm! (does it matter I'm white:confused: )

Doesnt matter, lol. I'm asian so I guessed I would be Jubes by default :D. But now that I'm Kitty, I'm going to be a total sh** disturber for Bobby and Rogue.

  up!!!

I'll phase into Bobby's room and then phase out of my clothes.

:O hey, a guy can only resist so much temptation! be gentle with him at least, he's forgotten the feel of human flesh.

Anyhoo, I was thinkin' about jubes

i wonder how kea wong feels about daniel cudmore getting a bigger part while she got left behind?:(

Sorry other posters for being off topic, just having a little fun.

:D:D hehehe.

Yeah, the most she had really were the couple of deleted scenes or whatever. Oh and her name was called out by Storm in X2, haha.

Oh and yes sorry I'll throw in something to keep us on topic:

ms.vix what you wrote about cliched lines, yeah no kidding. the writing was definitely lacking...I'm reminded of what should have been a meaningful exchange between Bobby and Pyro:
"You should have stayed at (was it at? in?) school."
"You never shoulda left."

Now come on, this is the "highly anticipated" confrontation between the wondertwin powers (sorry that just came out). It was like, "I'm gonna kick your ass." "Yeah, well it's YOU who should prepare for the ass kicking." There, I can write a scene too. :P
