..instead of a bionic eye or something? With all the technology at his disposal...

Because he still has an eye under the patch. His vision is just so reduced (around 5% of normal) that he wears the patch anyway.

There have been a couple times (most notably the "FURY" miniseries in the 90's) were they have given him bionic enhancements for it. But the patch is so iconic for him that they never stuck.

Also, this would be one of those questions that is good for the Official Stupid Questions thread that is stuck to the top of the forum.

eye patches are badass , that's why.

Because he can disguise himself as a pirate every Hallowe'en... :word:

:yay:

So that he can see in the dark.

Seriously. They proved it on Mythbusters.

Ah. So it's the same reason Professor X will be back in a wheelchair before this decade is done.

He wears an eye patch because its awesome :D:D

The Real Reason Is Fury Lost Sight In One Eye From A Bullet Wound In The Line Of Duty

I think the real question is why doesn't everyone else have eyepatches?

So he can cheat in poker like Number 2 did in Austin Powers

I dont think fury after all thats happened would trust anyone elses technology to replace his eye, hes to smart and knows to much about the shadyness of people.

Why does this forum have an Official Stupid Questions thread?

Oh yeah, it's for stupid questions.

meh.

There has GOT to be a point where an honest question is not a stupid Question.

Fury damaged the eye during his time with the Howling commandoes.

(616 anyway)

I admit I assumed that the same chemical that slows his aging also prohibits organic replacement.

I can't believe people take the "stupid question" part of the thread's title so seriously. It's a thread for any questions about any weird comic minutiae that don't really require a whole thread devoted to them. Are people really so insecure that they believe asking a question in there is somehow an admission of stupidity on their own part?

This can now be about Fury's eye.

How did he loose his eye?

If I were fury... I'd get a bionic eye and still wear the patch. The patch would hide the bionic eye but wouldn't hinder his ability to use it. Just a thought anyway.

If I were Fury, I'd get a flesh-colored patch like Saul Tigh. :)

He didn't lose his eye (as I stated in the first response in this thread). The eye is still there and looks fine, but due to taking a piece of shrapnel during the war he has slowly lost vision in that eye. He's now at only about 5% vision in it and therefore wears the eye patch to avoid the distraction of the limited vision.

The slow deterioration of his vision is also why in his early appearances (and in flash backs) he is sometimes shown with the eye patch and sometimes not. Depending on the circumstances, he would wear it.

Fury could have had the eye fixed surgically even back during WWII but chose to return to the front lines rather than be out of the action for several weeks while he recuperates. Now it is too late to repair it. That's how badass Nick Fury is.

If he had a fake eye he could keep mints in it it like the guy from The Story Of Ricky

Nick Fury is so badass he doesn't even need depth perception.
