Will Hans Zimmer Score Superman?

I dont believe they've given it an official title, have they?

In that case, I wouldn't mind it just being Superman, since the Donner film was technically Superman: The Movie.

^I've always thought that the "Star Trek" route was the best.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture = Star Trek

Superman: the Movie=Superman

It's simple.

Listening to Zimmer's cue "One Day" from the third "Pirates" film ("At World's End"). I think it has a fantastic, also appropriately bittersweet, romantic theme. It feels big in scope and emotion... reminds me that Zimmer does have some darn good scoring chops.

I just really hope he keeps choral backing out of the score.

They should just call it superman begins if there going the clark discovering why he should be superman route. Easy to market, comparisons to batman begins, you really can't go wrong.

Not surprised Hans Zimmer was chosen to write the score given who is involved with this picture.

He's a solid choice and Zimmer makes some really good scores; although, he really lacks making his music "pop" or his scores, as good as they are, don't stand out in the way John Williams and an early Danny Elfman's do.

I still hate the title Superman: The Movie

Well no **** it's a movie.

Decent choice. I can't complain really. I'm just glad this movie isn't going to have some throwaway score you hardly notice.

Hopefully this shows what turns to out to be a pattern of nolan having a positive influence on snyder's direction.

Normally I would agree with you here. Had it not been for his score for Inception, I would not have been rooting for him.

The best thing about the Inception score was how it was derived from that Edith Plaf song -- honestly the most memorable piece was the climatic kick sequence. Zimmer's score disappointed me, I expected something more romantic and challenging.

Zimmer can be a really good composer if he's encouraged to go outside the box and stretch his wings a la The Da Vinci Code, The Thin Red Line, Sherlock Holmes and The Ring. His blockbuster scores for the first two POTC movies, parts of his Batman scores, et al just feel phoned in. And honestly, if you listen to his scores for a loop, you can tell there are numerous carryovers of his sound. (And it's tiring for me, really.)

I'm not saying Snyder and Nolan should stick with John Williams' theme or anything, but I was hoping for a different theme. Not something Zimmerized -- I'm tired of Zimmer's trademarks being in almost every action movie these days.

Well, this is America. They really felt the need to spell it out for us. Without it.... would've been anarchy.

How long does it take write a score? If TDKR comes out in July then the score should be done sometime in June. Zimmer will have about 5 months to work on Superman if the target date is still Decmeber.
Composer's can write a score with the script only.

Not to mention they tend to get dailies to watch before the movie is even done filming. I don't think people need to worry about him not having enough time to score this.

Well, to be fair, at the time that the film came out, there hadn't been many big-budget, large-scale, blockbuster superhero films like we have all the time now. They needed to convey that, beyond a shadow of a doubt, this was no radio or TV show. It was something the likes of which hadn't been seen yet on the big screen.

Context is a wonderful thing. :)

You're already too late!
you're a few years late in realizing that! Zimmer's being sounding alike for more than 10 years.

Just watch this and cringe at how much Zimmer has reused and thats not even counting the blatant Black Rain to Batman Begins/TDK theme.

here is the Black Rain theme which he reused note for note for TDK/Batman begins.

If he can reuse themes constantly, I guess for Superman, he's probably going to cherry pick from one of his older scores.

A lot of composers reuse bits of their scores, James Horner is another example, and even Williams has been guilty of it too. But Zimmer, Jablonsky etc take the word "Reuse" to a new level!

Even Elfman ripped of Bernard Hermann for the 1989 Burton Batman movie theme. Making a mockery of the word "reuse" or "inspired"!

I was shocked!
here it is, the definitive batman theme was made in the 50s, before even the campy tv show theme was made! How funny is that!

Why are you shocked? Composers will reuse their own samples from previous material to try and create something else.

Nothing wrong with that....it's their own material.

Time from Inception:

I would be happy if Zimmer came up with a new theme and then perhaps they could use the Williams theme for the credits Casino Royale/Star Trek style.

I'm pleased with Zimmer doing the score. I LOVED his Sherlock Holmes work.

However, the rest of the news has all but killed any faith I had in this film. Visually it will be, um, fun, and the underlying idea for the story may still have glimmers of cleverness from the original Nolan/Goyer treatment, but everything done from there I don't have much, if any, faith in, yet.

hat could change, but we will see.

Hmm, the quotes are similar to the ones made by Zimmer a while back, so is it possible that this is still just a rumor?

The IMDB-board seems to think so.
