Civil War Winter is Coming - The Bucky Barnes Thread

Not open for further replies.
Can't wait to see the double duo team-up between Cap & Bucky vs. Shellhead. it's been a long time coming.

Tony has been provoking Rogers since Avengers, now it comes all to a head in Civil War. Plus if The Winter Soldier is truly responsible for the assignation of Howard & Maria Stark well then it's even hits home for Tony in his battle.

Seb Stan was already Mr Cool around these parts, now he has to be even cooler?

Im really interested in seeing Crossbones' hydraulic fists. Theyre cool but I also wonder why he doesnt have something more high tech at this point if hes taking on Cap. Those things arent gonna help much.
Perhaps they function like the hidden blade in his gauntlets: capable of retracting

^^ From the pics it looks like a pretty low tech deal. Like theyre just crudely strapped to his arms. Maybe theyll add some CGI to it or something in post.

I love it! Personally, I'm glad Stan took Snyder down a peg after his comment regarding Ant-Man being a "flavor of the week". As the old saying goes, you don't start the war, but you should finish it.

If that's the case than Jackson and Anthony started the war. But seeing as how people want to ignore that Zack didn't criticize Marvel films and has actually praised them while also ignoring that Ant man is a flavor of the week movie, I'm not surprised that even here this non issue been blown out of proportion.

As for Tony and Bucky, I have thought for some time that Tony holding Bucky responsible is unfair. To me it's like holding a bullet responsible for killing someone. I know TWS was technically a person but he didn't operate like one and had no choice in his actions. Am I wrong in thinking that Tony can be apprehensive towards Bucky and even worried about how much control Hydra still has over him; but a personal vendetta for his parents deaths is a little too far. I just think the whole thing should be put in perspective.

Snyder has said things before when he was making MOS, then it was about Iron Man and Thor. If Snyder wanted to make comparisons against the enduring properties of Batman and Superman vs what he deems "flavor of the week" superheroes he should have chosen Watchman or Sucker Punch or even an upcoming property from DC like Cyborg or Aquaman. But he didn't for obvious reasons.

DC has nothing to bring to the fight (Man of Steel doesnt count for me) even if there was one. Marvels been making movies since 2008 and has had nothing but wins (including Ant-Man, that "flavor of the week" film). I think DC should have the same amount of time to deliver the goods CONSISTENTLY before they even attempt to make any negative comments about Marvels output. Thats only fair. So DC should shut their pieholes, bring the awesome interconnected DCCU films for about 7 or 8 years then start with the smack talk.

DC has flavor characters as well... What is your point! I never denied that and if Snyder thinks that DC doesn't then he's a fool. But that doesn't change that Antman is still a flavor of the week superhero and is no where near legends like Superman Batman Spiderman or even Capt. America. Certain characters will transcend movies and other ones won't. What is so horrible about pointing that out?
Both sides have talked crap and both sides need to ****.
Zack said Antman specifically he did not say all Marvel characters because he probably knows Marvel has created icons as well. And Im sure WB would Josh Trank him if he said anything unflattwring about their future properties.

I like how there is always a changing of the goal post with certain Marvel fans. With that being your criteria I Guess I can't make any criticisms of Marvel because I've never made any kind of movie; same for the other movie and TV show creators who have criticized Marvel movies without making any superhero films. How about my goal post is DC has Oscars tied to their films so they clearly have the quality over Marvels quantity....or maybe both sides can just shut up, make movies and be done with it.
Ben Affleck and Zack have said things they shouldn't have. Robert Downey Jr, Samuel L Jackson, Mackie, and Whedon have done so also. Honestly the most mature one has been Sebastian I just hate that he probably was only given a snippet of what Zack said and not the entire quote in context.

^^ I dont think Marvel needs to ****. DC needs to REALLY **** because theyre not even in the game yet. They need to sit down and keep their traps closed until they have the backup to point to. They have nothing, nada, zip, ZERO collateral.

Ant-Man was 1) basically an unknown character to the general public 2) had MASSIVE production problems that had us all doubting it would even happen 3) was a pretty fast turnaround/shoot and it STILL made bank. If thats flavor of the week, give me 31 Flavors more. Heres my $$ take it please.

Also by 2016 Zack's Batman V Superman will have had several YEARS in production/post to come up with this epic masterpiece of cinema. So it really better be something great. We'll all be very dissapointed if we waited for some letdown schmuck fest.

Yeah...Batman 89, Superman, Superman 2, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Oscar winning The Dark Knight....yep DC has done nothing. I love how you pretend comic book.movies only emerged in 2008.
Such behavior gives Marvel fans a bad name. I'll leave you to your blind DC hate, because unlike you I see the great things all these movies have created whether produced by Marvel, DC, Fox, Sony etc.

Call me a juvenile Marveltard if you want (and thanks for making this a personal attack, note that I never called YOU names). Im talking about the DCCU, not their past films. Those have nothing to do with the upcoming planned universe.

Thats like comparing Spider Man to Iron Man. Theyre Marvel but ones not part of the MCU.

I saw all those DC movies by the way. From Superman to Watchmen to Nolans Batman trilogy.

Right now DC has basically zip in terms of the DCCU, that was my point. So why talk smack? It just makes them look like fools.

That's Snyder's point. That Ant-Man is the latest superhero to get a movie. He wasn't talking about the movie or his movie he was talking about the characters. He said Ant-Man isn't as popular as Superman and Batman. He said the same thing about Iron Man and Thor during MOS. If he gave Cyborg or Aquaman as an example there would be a different discussion going on right now, online and at Warner Brothers. That's all the smack talk he's given. He's had nothing but praise concerning the movies.

:appluads: I was beginning to think in was the only one who saw this. I don't know what he said about Thor or Ironman but if he only said that Superman is more popular how us that talking crap? Its just the truth, just like Batman is more popular that Superman and JFK is more popular than Franklin Pierce.

Someone at DC said something like Marvel movies arent as serious/mature as DCs or something though. Theyre freakin fantasy movies, theyre not reality no matter how you spin it. So making "realistic, serious, edgy" movies in this genre can only go so far. Also, once you have a guy that flies and wears a red and blue skin tight suit and a cape, serious realism is kinda out the window anyway.

Huh??

Wally Pfister said:
"What's really important is storytelling. None of it matters if it doesn't support the story," he said. "I thought The Avengers was an appalling film. They'd shoot from some odd angle and I'd think, why is the camera there?

He added: "Oh, I see, because they spent half a million on the set and they have to show it off. It took me completely out of the movie. I was driven bonkers by that illogical form of storytelling."

However, speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Whedon refused to raise to the bait and simply replied: "I'm sorry to hear it, I'm a fan."

Joss Whedon on the so-called DC vs Marvel competition said:
Let’s look at the bigger picture, and I can’t say this enough: THIS IS NOT A ZERO SUM GAME. Our successes, whoever has the mostest, are a boon to each other. We’re in the business of proving that superhero movies aren’t just eye-candy (they’re eye-TRUFFLES!). People seem intent on setting us against each other, and though I’m proud to be Woody Strode to Nolan’s Kirk Douglas, I think they’re missing the point. Whatever TDKR does on its first weekend, the only stat that matters to me is the ticket I’M definitely buying. Nolan and Raimi INVENTED the true superhero flick, yo. (Special mention to Jon Favreau and James Gunn.) Happy to be in the mix.

Wally Fister is an ok DP, and hack director. Just wanted to lob that into the convo.

"The Avengers is an apalling film" - wow what a major mook he is for saying that. That was totally a "I'm jealous Marvel made a billion dollar movie" reactionary *****e response.

Who cares what one guy who worked on a billion dollar movie says about another billion dollar movie? When TDK came out RDJ trashed that film. Who cares that the president of WB said DC's edgier than Marvel? Feige said Marvel's characters was more emotionally complex. DC has said things about Marvel and Marvel has said things about DC. We could go all day quoting people from Marvel and DC but it will amount to nothing and this is the Bucky thread anyway.

The thing I love about the MCU, is how emotionally invested I get in understanding each of these characters because somewhere deep down inside, I can see a bit of me in them, especially in Steve Rogers who was a nobody who had but only one best true friend. When he gets his chance, Steve eventually ends up losing not only Bucky, but the one woman who understood him as a human being. That's what I love and will always love about the Captain America movies thus far. I can relate to every character, how they interact with each other because I get what Marvel is setting up to what's to come. I may not know every little detail of what's coming for us so I still want to be surprised and hopeful. :) I am most looking forward in Civil War the friendship renewed between Steve and Bucky and how the emotional toll of losing Peggy is going to affect Steve in a way we haven't seen before. I am sure it's gonna be about the same emotional hit as it was in Agent Carter where Peggy finds it hard to let go of the man she loved but as hard as it sounds, to not just her but also to Howard Stark, she had to learn to let him go.

^^ A sublime description of what makes those characters great. Theres actually a lot of emotional depth with Cap and the way Marvel has told his story is excellent. Chris has done a spectacular job bringing him to life. Looking fwd to seeing how Bucky comes back from his brainwashed self too.

Much Respect to Stan for saying that.

I'm so glad that Seb confirmed that his role in TWS (not VERY small already) was just an introduction and we'll get so much more of Bucky in Civil War. Many were sure, that RDJ will hijack time from this storyline.

Yea, I'm glad to hear Bucky will get his due. He's got arguably the most potentially emotionally compelling storyline of anyone right now.

Possible that Bucky is not a good guy in this one either? This was posted by someone who met SS at the Comic Con earlier. [BLACKOUT]
