Wonder Woman Script

Okay, lesse:

Villains that aren't Ares: good.
Villains that are Cheetah: good.
Kyptonian involvment: I could do without that.
That Wondy gets her costume in a plot that involves rape: yuck. I'm not against portrayals of rape in media, but I'm having a hard time imagining a worst reason to.

Which Cheetah is this? Lady in a fursuit or wherecheetah?
What is her motivation?

WereCheetah I suppose. They wrote it so that she was working for Lord to find a cur for Metahumanism(She is also romantically involved w/him), but when she comes in contact with a soil sample from Themiscyra, she is contaminated by the soil and turned into what I suppose is Cheetah. Very atypical in my opinion.

They then had her returning to Lord and being shunned since he has a loathing of metahumans. He essentially locks her away and tells her the only way he'll ever love her again is if she kill wonderwoman.

The part that I enjoyed of all this was that in the end WW doesn't kill her, Maxwell's metahuman-fearing supporters do, which leaves Lord in a very difficult place. That's good writing.

The problem is, while they are certainly compelling stories, Comic Books don't translate all the time into the best films, and Hollywood execs take that logic and run with it, taking it as an invitation to change EVERYTHING in a screenplay.

No the problem is that 99% of the time the core elements translate much much better that any half baked ideas a Hollywood writer uses to put his stamp on the character. That's why the Marvel movies are so strong, they have confidence in the characters.

So Wondie have kryptonian-like powers?

Depending on the run of course she is either just super strong with a invisible jet to nearly being able to go toe to toe with Superman physically and can fly.

Well, Punisher: Warzone was more true to its roots than the Iron Man series, and the Iron Man series obviously won out there. Chris Nolan revamped the Batman series by completely reworking characters and that did incredibly well.

There are definitely case in which a re-imagining doesn't work out, such as Spider-man 3, but it's really on a case-by-case basis.

The point is that it's easy to point out the times when things work out in your favor than against you. We really can't generalize all of the Hollywood crowd into one group.

Nolan may have reinvented the character looks in his Batman series, but the core of the characters was still there.

Exactly. It's a movie based on Batman but several changes had to be made for the general audience to accept it.

This sounds worse then Superman Returns.

At least that film was faithful to the character.

You're missing my point. What I mean is that in Hollywood when something appears to be a challenge people are much more likely to make things easier for themselves than take the high road and commit to things they deem risky like, for example, using the Gods vs. Using other villains. While we may think the Gods are better, Hollywood doesn't think that way, they just see another fantastical element they have to add to a world that they are attempting to make as "realistic" as possible.

I am by no means saying they are right, that's just how it is.

To be fair this script doesn't seem to go against the character, quite the oposite, it's actually closer to the original character than what many modern writers do with her, the problem here is it goes against the character's mythos

I consider changing a character's background to the point where instead of being in the lineage of the gods she is nothing but a super strong mutation brought on by bacteria a change in the character. A big part of who she is lies in her history.

Whomever came up with the bacteria idea has watched the opening to DC Universe Online one too many times. If people will accept Thor and Asgard in the Marvel films they will accept Themiscyra in all it's glory.

Marvel and DC films are two VERY different beasts. Marvel is playing OFF the fantastical and DC is essentially trying to become the anti-Marvel and move closer to something they consider more realistic, hence them choosing bacteria as opposed to lineage of the Gods.

I agree that it betrays who Wonderwoman is, but it DOES stay true to her character, which is more than I can say for most other adaptations of just about anything ever.

If this comes to fruition than WB officially has no clue what the hell they are doing, assuming any of this true.

With kryptonian bactéria being involved in the amazons origin, as well as the rumored origin of Flash i have to say, Krypton's bacteria's quite magical, when they make an Aquaman movie are they going to make the Atlanteans fish that mutated from kryptonian bacteria? Or make Atlantis run of Krypton technology?

Oh, this is fun, what if the bat that appeared in Bruce's window was created out of kryptonian bacteria too? Or Batman takes kryptonian drugs? Therefore making him more realistically be so smart and have such a fighting prowess.

The Amazonians as a whole are basically explained by saying that ages ago Themiscyra contained traces of Kryptonian bacteria that contaminated the island.

I understand. But what are the implications of that? In particular to Diana.

WB has NOTHING to do with this screenplay. This is something that came across MY desk. WB won't be touching WW until after Goyer gives them a Justice League script sadly.

The Gods just don't play into it. The only weapons she retains is a lasso and she has strength and flight.

People seem really infuriated that she is being reduced to a shred of essentially Superman, but I'd like to point out that her origin isn't necessarily credited to Krypton, it's mentioned very quickly in an aside that the bacteria is the same as "that ship". That is literally the only mention of Superman til the denouement.

No, Bruce Wayne gets bitten by a bat mutated by the kryptonian Atmosphere created by the terraforming device in India, thus mutating him to peak physical condition and a genius intellect. And his parents could have been killed in a car driving through smallville that was caught in the wreckage when Kal el cashed on earth. This sh** just writes itself :o

BAHAHAHAHAH

Not sure if I'm interested in seeing the Kryptonian League of America on the big screen.

Here's the thing, DC should try to be different by not shoe horning continuity and the same origin for every single thing. Marvel's characters were tought out to be in the same continuity in the comics, but DC characters were each created separatelly with their oun mythos and character backstory, each one by different creators that brought something different to them.

This is what makes DC characters so unique, Nolan's Batman series succeded in the first place because if felt like a Batman movie, he took the characters mythos and "adapted" it as he liked, Batman Begins and The Dark knight Rises felt like 90s Batman comics and THe Dark Knight felt like classic + modern Batman, what we saw there was undeniably the Joker, no matter how much different his appearance was from the usual.

By forcing a different serie's concept you're throwing out the aspects that defined your character and her series.
