Wonder Woman Script

Thanks.

What the purpose of this script? I mean you said WB had nothing to do with it. I'm confused.

Not sure what you mean by purpose. I am a reader in Hollywood at an agency and it came across my desk a few days ago as part of a spec package of a new screenwriter we just began representing. I figured I'd share the plot since it's not in any danger of being big yet and I hopefully won''t be reading scripts at that point any way.

Since my message once again disappeared from sight i'll repost it if you don't mind :o

Marvel and DC films are two VERY different beasts. Marvel is playing OFF the fantastical and DC is essentially trying to become the anti-Marvel and move closer to something they consider more realistic, hence them choosing bacteria as opposed to lineage of the Gods.

I agree that it betrays who Wonderwoman is, but it DOES stay true to her character, which is more than I can say for most other adaptations of just about anything ever.
Here's the thing, DC should try to be different by not shoe horning continuity and the same origin for every single thing. Marvel's characters were tought out to be in the same continuity in the comics, but DC characters were each created separatelly with their oun mythos and character backstory, each one by different creators that brought something different to them.

This is what makes DC characters so unique, Nolan's Batman series succeded in the first place because if felt like a Batman movie, he took the characters mythos and "adapted" it as he liked, Batman Begins and The Dark knight Rises felt like 90s Batman comics and THe Dark Knight felt like classic + modern Batman, what we saw there was undeniably the Joker, no matter how much different his appearance was from the usual.

By forcing a different serie's concept you're throwing out the aspects that defined your character and her series.

I mean why it was made? I don't know how this stuff work.

jd23, (my apologizes if it's already been answered)

How does WW fight in the script? Does he make use of those silver bracelets or wield her lasso, or do we see her in some armor with sword & shield?

Very often, people write movies on spec, and THEN try and sell them, in fact, that used to be the way most movies were made. You come up with an idea THEN sell it to a studio, who buys it if they like the script.

No worries. Things like that are usually fleshed out more by producers and directors, but the writer put the lasso in, no word on the bracelets though. She seems pretty minimal and lots of martial arts-y action. Although be warned, this isn't as full of fighting as MOS.

I am leaving for a little bit. I'll read replies when i get back and respond.

It's not all that surprising. If I had the same job I may have done the same thing.

For years, I've tried not jump on the "DC/WB can't do anything right" bandwagon.

But between GL trying to be Iron Man, MOS trying to be a Superman version of The Dark Knight trilogy, and this script sounding more forced than "Iron Man 2" when it comes to tying in to a larger superhero universe, I have to believe that...they don't know what they're doing.

Their plan is to rip off anything popular (Dark/Gritty, MCU) instead of letting the characters be the characters. And since DC/WB has no faith in their non Batman characters, no one else does either.

He has no reason to lie about a spec script. Until WB buys it, it's simply fan fiction.

I couldn't agree more with this, minus the part about MOS ripping off TDK. This is the epitome of everything wrong with DC on film. This makes me really worried for the DCU on the big screen.

I'm sorry, Shika, but I started to get a bad feeling when MOS came out. Guess it has to do with the fact that I've never forgotten what led to MOS being made in the first place.

What led to it being made was Nolan liking Goyer's idea. Goyer came up with a pitch for a Superman reboot while he took a break from writing TDKR. Nolan really liked the idea and presented it to WB and was put in charge of finding a director (Snyder). That's really an "in a nutshell" of the situation.

Does MoS have Nolan/TDK influences? Absolutely. But I wouldn't say WB was more motivated than ever after TDK to reboot Superman and to make it more like TDK. It was the result of Goyer having some fun while on break and then bringing that idea to WB through Nolan.

Trolls gonna troll

Thanks for the vote of confidence! But really, if you have no interest you really don't have to read the thread. If I wanted to troll I can think of a lot less complicated and much funnier ways of doing it.

If you DO have an actual question though, I'd be happy to oblige.

Who wrote the script? When was it complete?

I can't tell you who wrote, I CAN tell you its someone the agency I worked for just picked up, and a spec WW script was among the ones he delivered. It was probably done very recently considering it included some information that he couldn't have known without reading about MOS first.

One thing thats missing to that is that WB/DC were/are in a legal situation with the Siegel family and needed to have a Superman movie in production by a certain date. I know all about the "Goyer's idea" story, but honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if that story wasn't entirely truthful. People make up PR stories all the time in hollywood.

Listen to what this script reader is saying. WB wants ALL of their superhero films to be "Gritty, realistic" much in the same way TDK trilogy was. Mark Waid has gone on record saying that WB essentially dosen't like Superman and they constantly wonder how he could be more like Batman. They get a bunch of creators known for "Dark, realistic superheroes" to do Superman. IMO, WB was/is very motivated to have Superman films more in the tone of Batman, a proven success.

So someone writes a script takes it to an agency and the agency goes to WB with it?
