Wonder Woman Script

Certainly not shopping. Just sharing a draft I read. You are very right though, it'll be very different now that WB has decided to make the JL movie before individual character ones.

I don't know if anyone on here is a fan of european football (Soccer) but we're in the middle of the transfer window at the moment and some people on twitter and forums like this claim to know which player is moving to which club and whatnot but in fact they are really just full of it and spouting nonsense for retweets or to mess with people, I don't really know what the motivation is for it. And then, when they are not correct they usually back track and come up with some BS excuse as to why they gave the wrong info.

Anyway, my point is, a similar situation seems to be going on here. If you really had access to this information, why would you be posting it on a SHH forum? And how do you know WBs plans when not even SHH itself does, hell WB don't even know their plans?

You can connect the gods to Krypton without making Wonder Woman a derivative of Superman which is what this script sounds like. And rape in a superhero film is tasteless. It's like having the Power Rangers decapitating people. You have missed it, and for that matter, so did MOS on some level. Without the 'fun' of Superheroes, everything becomes very heavy and dead on a certain level. It's a sad day when Batman Begins has laughs and comedy than Man of Steel. It's overcompensating, and not understanding what made the TDK trilogy so great... it wasn't just this hyper-serious thing.

It sounds like this script has some good ideas but has failed pretty badly in the execution. I need to go ahead and write a Wonder Woman Script so at least I can say 'they should've made mine instead.'

No worries, someone else asked me this earlier in the thread. To put it simply, the script I did coverage for JUST came into the pile at the agency I work for, so it has yet to even come under WB's radar, although I DID pass that screenplay on to my higher-ups. I'm just a WW fan and if another reader like myself came across something like this, I would want them to post it.

You don't have to take anything I say seriously if you don't want to. And as for WB stuff, go online and do some hunting. There's plenty about it on deadline or hollywoodreporter.

Do it! Don't send it blindly out, but write it! A fan who is a good writer could probably do these things better justice than anyone.

Thanks, jd23. It was really nice of you to bring this to our attention. Questions...

1) How is Diana (or any other Amazon) infected by the kryptonian ship?

2) Did you notice any shared-universe easter eggs?

3) What are the chances that this script gets picked up?

Hey DChero--

1. It's not a big part of plot, just that they explain the Amazonian race by basically saying it bears the same bacteria as the Kryptonian ships, that the Amazonians are essentially Metahumans somewhere between humans and kryptonians.

2. Superman is mentioned briefly. Usually with tie-in movies, the writers leave that open to the directors, although Lord introduces WW to Superman at the end and brings up Justice League.

3. I'm sure it'll get picked up eventually by someone as the writer himself has a great portfolio, including other good screenplays, but probably not for a while. Things move like snails out here, and WB is taking their sweet time with WW. Since they put all that time into Whedon's WW script and nothing came of it, they seem to be hesitant from what I've read. If someone were smart, they'd shop their script to a director before they gave it to an agency or studio. If a big name gets on-board and excited, anything can get made(e.g. Lone Ranger and Johnny Depp).

Thanks! I actually really like the kryptonian bacteria tie-in. I assume it was something that happened with Diana's ancestors being infected rather than just her, correct?

I almost forgot to ask. Does she fly? Invisible jet?

Writing was my passion even though I went to college for VFX, so I've always appreciated what others come up with.

Correct. They justify Themiscyra as a whole through the bacteria. Which means even animals. The opening scene has WW hunting some sort of pre-historic boar on the island actually.

She seems to jump or fly or float. The language is pretty vague. Once again, something usually decided later on. No jet though. She only has the lasso.

Its not a terrible script as far as writing goes. I read a lot of terrible ones every day. It may not do justice to WW, but as a whole its impressive.

Does it explain why only women are on the island? And why they haven't bothered to leave it in several thousand years?

That was never explained. They get away from Themiscyra pretty damn fast and into New York. They have Trevor crash in some sort of force-field surrounding the island though. Holes in their explanation as a whole.

Great! Hopefully the writer has some convincing dialog. That's the hardest part.

By the way, how many pages does it run? I'm not sure if you can reveal that.

Ah, I cannot. It's long but doesn't read long. Very concise and clear. Very old school. WHich is also nice. I hate the way writers write nowadays.

I thought as much. If it went beyond 140 pages I was going to hit you with a Peter Jackson joke.

I did a shot list to the Batman Forever script as a college project several years ago and came away thinking that it's a really good script. What the hell happened? Sometimes you never know until the production team gets involved.

The problem is, while they are certainly compelling stories, Comic Books don't translate all the time into the best films, and Hollywood execs take that logic and run with it, taking it as an invitation to change EVERYTHING in a screenplay.

I can certainly see how a good writer can make a connection to Greek mythology even with the Kryptonian origin. For example, if the Amazonians received powers from the Kryptonian ship that far back in history, they probably thought that it was the gods that gave them those "gifts."

RIght, but then you have to include Gods. And while I think this is total bogus. I have a friend who is an assistant in development at WB who says that they all think the DC universe is "cluttered".

The gods could be written as the original ones to receive those abilities. As the first of one's race to have that kind of power, it's certainly understandable that they consider themselves "gods." That would lead to the divide of gods and mortal during the Greek empire. They'd still live up to their history, but would be subject to our reality.

Haha you should write a treatment then!:yay:

Haha! I've done many a treatment, the problem is being happy with it after a night of sleep. You'll see all around these boards are people changing their minds about how to best retell a character's story in cinema, no matter how sure that they were that they had the perfect idea. The fans have to have it their way, until they change their mind.

Fair enough. I just thought I'd share what I read. People may not like the way she is treated in this, but it's definitely well-structured as a story. Although I won't lie after reading some of the reception it got here I feel sheepish that I passed it on to my superiors.

I assume it's just a first draft, so the most important thing would be the story. If that's good, then it'll be fine. Most of the complaints have been about details that don't affect the overall story.

It will more than likely be decided later on how Wonder Woman fits into the Man of Steel universe during the first rewrite. That alone is the biggest factor of whether the gods/mythology is incorporated. In short, it's very flexible.

There's also a soft PG-13 rating to consider with these kinds of movies, so that'll soften the rape situation. I think that most people expect it to be worse since we're just imagining it instead of reading it.

Keep in mind that the comic crowd is a very small portion of the general audience, and that's the demographic that makes the biggest splash. ;)

I think it should be simple. Look to the Brian Azarello version of Wonder Woman and even the 2009 animated movie. The mythological elements with the greek gods, the island, it's all a huge reason as to why I love the character. It makes her unique.

If anybody wrote a script, would that person be able to send it to you and be taken seriously?

I mean I won't write coverage on it if that's what you mean, unless I thought it was great, I'd certainly read it. But if I liked it I would solicit anything. I just solicited my cousin's screenplay actually.

My point though, is that for projects like this that have such a loyal following, one should approach big name creatives, not studios and agencies(i work for the latter). Winding-Refn is part of a creative collective that takes unsolicited manuscripts all the time, for example.

Okay, lesse:

Villains that aren't Ares: good.
Villains that are Cheetah: good.
Kyptonian involvment: I could do without that.
That Wondy gets her costume in a plot that involves rape: yuck. I'm not against portrayals of rape in media, but I'm having a hard time imagining a worst reason to.

Which Cheetah is this? Lady in a fursuit or wherecheetah?
What is her motivation?
