Would the movie hold up if no Venom?

they should have had gotten peter to get rid of the symbiote in sm3 and at the end have it bond with brock to become venom for sm4

I think this movie would have done just fine without Venom and personally I wish that he wasn't in it. I think Sandman is a terrific villain for the movie and that he and Harry could most certainly hold it on their own. From the set-up that Harry got at the end of the second film, I thought he would be the main villain. I would have gone for that dynamic alone. Throw in Sandman and I would be there symbiote or no.

Well if it was just sandman then the movie would probably be smaller and more on scale with 2 instead of being a better movie.

Absolutely! Whether or not Venom was in it, wouldn't have had a great impact on the story. I think Venom just makes for a great villain for the final battle. Sandy alone, I think, would have been good enough for the film, minus Harry, because Harry is another form of a character we've already seen. So inclusion of Venom makes up for a fresh villain along with Sandman.

Yes. I think if they beefed up Harry's role the movie could've been even greater. I understand the need for venom, but he was never a favorite of mine.

of course it would, i wish he wasn't in it at all.

For me, no it wouldn't. I'd simply skip it.

Harry is just another Goblin and Sandman is pretty much the most boring Marvel villain. Nothing is impressive about him in my opinion.

Plus, the symbiote is what makes the story sounds interesting. Otherwise it would be just a retread of SM and SM2.

So yeah, I think Venom makes the movie.

LMAO, you've would have skipped it, good one. How many times have I heard a geek say that and never followed through? Seven years on this site, and I still get a chuckle from hearing it. :D

You're kidding, right? OF COURSE the film would hold up if there were no Venom. He's okay, I just can't get excited about him. As far as I'm concerned, from what I've seen so far, he's just an Aliens creature retread. The film is, after all, called SPIDER-MAN 3, not VENOM or SANDMAN or GREEN GOBLIN 2. In fact, I wish Venom could have his own film so he wouldn't be allowed to overshadow THIS Spider-Man film, which I'm afraid will happen. I personally wouldn't pay anything to see a film just about Venom, but that's just my opinion. I don't know. Maybe my mind will change (but I doubt it) after I see the finished film.

Sure they know who Spider-Man is, but they don't know his villains like they would a Lex Luthor or The Joker or Darth Vader. Spidey's villains are way less popular than he is.

You're trying WAY too hard to win a debate. Of course they remember the villains. You're saying someone's gonna spend their entire childhood watching a cartoon series and not remember 90% of the characters? Its very unlikely. They may, lets say, forget their names but they won't forget the characters. Like for example, I can't remember the names of every villain in DuckTales but I remember them. I remember that witch who was always trying to steal Uncle Scrooge's lucky dime. You get what I'm saying?

Vis is right. Let me tell you something. Outside of comicdom and its fans, not that many people knew who the GG was. In fact, more people were familiar with hobgoblin

You're talking about the kids in the `90s who grew up with the Fox Kids series. Kids who grew up in the `80s with Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends and the `60s animated series know Green Goblin.

If they didn't have Venom I wonder if Raimi had the Vulture so Harry could of have an air battle with him at the battle royale.

Especially after reading the novelization, the answer is a resounding "yes".

They threw Venom in, as an afterthought, because they want to ensure they bring in money (both in ticket sales and merchandise). His story has no bearing on anything else in this story.

Of course, spider-man movies have the popularity and fan base for at least 2 more sequels...

the only thing that was holding back the franchise was Peter/Mary-Jane's relationship (they either started the relationship too quickly, needed to get married already, or separate them).

Other than that the franchise had a lot more to go. Now that they're killing off characters, wrapping up lose ends and introducing the end-all strongest villain of all (venom). The franchise has no where else to really go after this.

There's nothing to debate, I'm not saying that no one knows these villains, just that Spider-Man has always been much more popular than his villains. Joker, The Riddler, Penguin, Catwoman, Lex Luthor, Darth Vader, etc., these are popular villains that can rival the popularity of Spider-Man himself in Pop-Culture. There's plenty of people who didn't grow up on comic books and cartoons of Spidey, who go to see the movies. You're forgetting that.

Are you telling me that the average joe knows who Electro and Kraven are, like they know who The Penguin, Darth Vader, The Riddler are--I don't think so? Hell, no one knew who 'Ra Al Ghul' was in Batman Begins (except the fans), and it made 215M domestically, why, because it was a Batman movie and it entertained most who saw it?

It would hold. A lot more CGI to show him mmore but yeah He can hold.

If Vulture was used over Venom, do ya'll think Harry would have a badass GOBLIN outfit, or what he has now?

To I_Hate_U_All-Read the novelization, then get back to me on that about "interesting villains".

WTF does Harry's suit have to do with The Vulture?

I had it in mind that Harry was in his current outfit due to budget, so that Venom could be included and given good SFX.

Figured Vulture would've been cheaper on the pocketbook, too. I'm looking forward to Grant Curtis's book and the tibits on The Vulture. Lizard just seemed like a given for a villain, alongside Harry. At least we got Harry.

Harry is wearing the suit he has, because that's what they (director/designer) wanted, with Marvel's approval of course. Don't assume otherwise because you hate it.

I don't hate it, I think its quite suitable for his needs. I will admit that at first, I couldn't stand it. However, that would just be silly when so much else could happen.

yeah probably but I'm just happy Vulture isn't in spidey3. he's not a villian that us fans love. I would have rather had Kraven The Hunter as a villian than the Vulture. anyway I think Avi Arad made the right choice by convincing sam to put Venom on film because he was wanted in these films ALOT.

And Sandman was the main bad guy ? ? Goblin and Doc Ock held up the previous two, I'm just wondering if Sandman could do it on his own. I think a lot of people will focus on Venom and steal Sandman's thunder, imo....

I would not be this excited for sm3 if venom wasn`t in it.

Actually, I'm talking about people who were born in the late 60s up to the present. I'll admit it's a shocker but when you think about it, it's not too surprising. The key factor is, said people aren't followers of the comics/mythos, they're just a casual audience with no profound appreciation for all that is spider-man.
