You know if you get rid of Singer & co you'll end up with a huge spider in the third act, or something equally as crap...

Yea, because the only other alternative to a Singer Superman film is a Superman film with a huge spider in the third act. There is no other director out there that could possibly do justice to Superman and make a movie that is universally praised among the hardcore fans and the general audience. All hail Singer! :csad:

Singer didnt change the character though, a lot anyway, he just put him in a situation were his superpowers couldnt help him.

Those situations existed because Singer compromised the character of Superman! Superman sleeping with Lois and not telling her he is Clark Kent as well as Superman taking off without saying a word to the person he supposedly loves the most in the world. That doesn't sound like Superman to me, and Singer didn't care either that he was compromising the character, he just wanted to create soap opera drama.

The thing is though, if Singer is replaced, god knows who they get to replace him.

I dont think those situations compromised Superman, i think they humanised him. We all make mistakes.

Humanising him is the only way we can connect to him though, without that a Superman movie, or comic for that matter, would be hollow.

Same did Donner. Having Superman quitting his mission because what Jor-El himself calls "selfish" reasons and Superman complaining about it ("after all I've done for them"), if you wanna look it like that, it's quite out of character, if for the perfect Superman vision. And then again, having Superman and Lois fighting for their love just to being separated at the end, Lois crying etc... spounds like soap opera drama... again, if we want to look it like that.

Basically, every situation for Superman or any other character is there because of the director's or writer's vision. Those situations don't happen by itselves since it's fiction what we're talking about here.

I actually came in and made things 50/50. Literally.

What we have with SR is an unsalvagable pile of crap. We need a new cast. We need a new director. We need a new goal and vision as fans. Only a reboot can do justice to Superman.

If you had a choice between a Singer MOS sequel guaranteed to be made or a restart (reboot) of the franchise also guaranteed and in a close time frame... Which would you choose and why?

Sequel. I don't think there's anything wrong with the cast or the story, it's the script that sucks because Singer's got two hack kids writing for him.

Everyone's ready to quit and start over whenever a movie isn't very good. If we did that, we wouldn't have Bride of Chucky!!

I agree that SR was a flawed, boring and ultimately underwhelming return, but to reboot now with a completely different cast would be asking alot for the general audience to accept. Oh christ, it's another one, take a chance or wait for video?
The overall casting was one of the few aspects of the film that I was satisfied with. I'd actually like to see the same cast in a good Superman movie, which is what I thought SR would be. I don't mind a non-traditional approach to the characters and their relationships. I just think that they really missed the mark with SR, and I'd prefer it if a new creative team with a new vision would come in and steer this franchise in a positive direction.

Which was followed by Seed of Chucky, which sucked. :csad: BOC was alright. But still, it's Superman we're talking about here!

Reboot.Superman Returns just showed fans that WB is afraid to let go of Donner and Reeve`s classic Superman and Superman II movies.Do something new.

Restart without any 70s Donner verse would be a nice change. No more emo Superman, bastard child, huge Krypton rock floating in space, real estate agent Lex Luthor, nerdy and lazy looking Clark Kent, and no action. Let's get out of the silver age and into the modern please!

Just comparing the previous vote on this matter from earlier poll.

It seems on this forum at least, since that time, more people have wanted a sequel. I wonder if that's because of less excitement for a JL movie

Honest answer: CONTINUE THE SUPERMAN RETURNS FRANCHISE!!!:oldrazz:

WHY? Because I love SR and really want to see the story continued.
Plus Brandon Routh makes such a fantastic Superman and Clark, IMO. I also enjoyed Kevin Spacey as Luthor. I just enjoy the movie immensely.
I see a lot of potential for great sequels, so many posibilities! :super:

Restart

GOGOGOGOGO

The great thing is, the could still call it The Man of Steel.

Honest answer: Continue the franchise.

It isn't hard to "fix" SR's problems in a sequel, nor is it as ridiculously easy (re: lazy) as just rebooting.

Yep. It not hard to fix the sequel. Just because one film is bad or whatever don't mean it need a reboot. It can be fix with the right writer. I'm sure there is a good one out there. Otherwise, some are lazy if they don't want to fix & go with the reboot.

This was so on target, I thought- "I don't remember posting that?"

I bow down to your infinite wisdom Slade Wilson.

Restart- I have no interest in where a direct sequel to SR would go. Unless of course they let me write it. THen that is a different story-

Thing is we could all do better hero movies ourselves....we just do not have the funds.
