As much as we have all said jackman is the face of this franchise i think if this is the monster of a movie that bryan singer describes it as aswell as having some of the more well remembered characters like nightcrawler and quicksilver in the same movie along with one of the biggest villains to date then i don't see the lack of jackman having much impact if any

there is actually alot of reasons why i think this film has good legs but alot of it will depend on the trailers and marketing rather then jackman

i suppose the question is what would boost or hurt the box office or what would boost or hurt the film

would having jackman in a small role appearing tin 2 sequences annoy who want to see wolverine or would wolverines involvement mean wolverine has to take a step up otherwise why have him there

If he is indeed in it, Wolverine needs a role that merits him being there, but which doesn't overshadow everyone else.

But, more than anything, the film needs to have wide appeal and tick all the boxes. It has to meet our expectations (not crush them like X3 did with killing Cyclops, etc).

And it needs to be a 'four-quadrant film':

When you have Jackmans name above the title on the DOFP movie poster you know that he either steals the show or he gets a surprise cameo

We have all speculated in the past that they could make him a horseman but you know he would End up the main horseman, apocalypse favourite horseman because it's wolverine which would overshadow archangel

I think everyone wants to know what happens to wolverine after DoFP with mystique. I don't want wolverine as a horsemen to be honest I just want a sense of what happened to him. Unless that's what they'll be addressing in the next wolverine movie.

The movie audience will expect to see him in this due to the cliffhanger of DoFP.

wolverine as horseman would be great because audence would be like holy crap wolverine as bad guy.people who complain about wolverine could root against him just people tired of stark In MCU can root for captain america in civil war:woot: archangel doesn't have anything for GA to root for xavier to try to knocks ense into him.wolverine does.although if wolverine is just a cameo mystique might fill that role.

besides if no wolverine except for flash forward at end or mid credit or post
credit people will be asking where was wolverine when apocalypse was
trying to destroy the world.

Looks like Inside Out "only" made $90.4 Mil. Not besting DOFP's $90.8.

Big numbers on both Jurassic and Inside Out. I expect to see something similar with Apocalypse and Alice. With Apocalypse leading around 20m.

If this film gets lower box-office gross both worldwide/domestic... I think that would reflect on the lack of the original cast including Hugh Jackman. I still think Hugh is a cameo or maybe he has a JohnnyDepp-Into-the-Woods size role? As a follow-up to the biggest X-Men film to date, they are ditching half of the cast and I don't think its really a good idea but we'll see.

I think they would really have to market the big set pieces in order to open over $100 million. DOFP's scale felt kinda intimate so I kinda see why it didn't overperform at the box office.

I'd be stunned if Alice doesn't move.

I don't see Alice going anywhere. The first film was a $1 billion plus blockbuster, and though there's been quite a bit of time between films, Disney's live action adaptations of their classic cartoons are sure things. They've added Anne Hathaway to an already impressive cast, and it looks like Johnny Depp will be getting some of his swagger back with the impressive looking Black Mass.

With the popular OT cast (except for Hugh) sitting out this one, Apocalypse is in a much more vulnerable position. I think that FOX will blink.

Personally I couldn't care less about Alice, I didn't even see the first one and I heard it got a warm response from critics so I ain't all that anxious about it

Apocalypse has got way to much going for it to be hurt even slightly by no original cast or Jackman and comic book movies seem to be changing and rebooting all the time so I don't personally think the audience are astrange to accept new things

Zarex, Hathaway was already in the first Alice.

Still baffled as to how Alice made that much money. I thought the movie was just so, so bad.

I've said this before, but I don't think domestic audiences are going to be nearly as kind to Through the Looking Glass as they were to its predecessor. This isn't March 2010. It doesn't have the benefit of light competition, nor are audiences as easily persuaded by the 3D gimmick. Moreover, live action re-imaginings of animated fairy tales are commonplace now, and the Burton/Depp factor is gone. Even if Depp does get some of his swagger back, I don't particularly see that translating to Through the Looking Glass. This isn't a Robert Downey Jr/Iron Man/Sherlock Holmes situation. Through the Looking Glass needs to do something different to make itself stand out. It can't rely on the same formula as its predecessor.

That said, Apocalypse can't rely on the same formula as its predecessor either. Apocalypse needs to come out swinging, or at least more than Days of Future Past did. Apocalypse does not have the benefit of the original cast in which to draw audiences. Another melancholy teaser, like the one released for Days of Future Past, is not going to cut it, especially if they're going to wait until late March/early April to release the theatrical trailer, like last time.

Agreed, they should go for a more exciting teaser.

It is. Outside of falling down the rabbit hole and an awesome Cheshire Cat I friggin hated it as well. They completely missed the nonsense dialogue and rhythm of Lewis Carrolls writing. And the hatter dance was one of the most cringe worthy things I've seen in a theatre. Hated Maleficent as well. But....kids enjoy them and parents are familiar so they like taking their kids to it. The older women in my family are always taking their daughters or my younger female cousins to these films. They live for Princesses and fairies and all that stuff.

While it would be nice and they hopefully learned off Cinderella, Disney doesn't care if older fanboys or movie buffs approval aint there when their target audience is enjoying it so much.

Most the fairy tale films have hit big no? I doubt Alice, Jungle Book or Beauty And The Beast will stop that trend. Outside of Jack And The Giant Slayer which I think was the only male led fairy tale film, they all made their cash back. Even Mirror Mirror did decent and made over twice it's budget ww.

It was pretty much riding the 3D high that everyone was on post-Avatar. It also helped that was released in March with very light competition.

I'm surprised it hasn't moved to the weekend after Memorial Day, which seemed to work for Maleficent.

I probably should watch these things before shooting off my mouth.

You'd be forgiven as I bet some of the audience probably didn't know it was her. Plus I think she was mostly mute.

Do we know if Ottman made that DOFP Comic-con teaser? I know he did the X2 one that got everyone pumped.

I don't want Apocalypse to move but The Jungle Book which is produced by Disney is coming out in April, 5 to 7 weeks before Alice 2. There wouldn't be a lot of room for both if Alice 2 arrives in mid or late March. So I think Through the Looking Glass will serve as Disney's family summer for 2015. However, if the Jungle Book gets delayed, I can see Through the Looking Glass moving. Anyway, 2016 is really crowded.

They must be pretty confident in it.

1 after Memorial day is the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 and before memorial day weekend Angry Birds!

Good question. I'm not sure. I want to say the people who cut the Man of Steel trailer are the ones who cut the Days of Future Past teaser, but I could be confusing that with Singer saying he wanted something similar to the Man of Steel of trailer, in terms of it being emotionally driven.
