Days of Future Past X-Men: First Class filming thread: News, reports, images etc.

We never saw Cyclops die, so it would be fairly easy to come up witha storyline that involves him surviving and coming back.

In comics, Jean dies and comes back more times than I can remember. If a story required her coming back, it could also be done.

The end of X3 already hinted at Xavier having survived.

An X4 could be done without completely ignoring the events of X3. Having said that, I guess I would have preferred that being done before the First Class movie came along.

could see Hugh jackman back as Wolverine but not Halle Berry. While Anna Paquin has
exspresed willingness to play Rogue again I don't know If a blonde Rogue would work. She has changed appearance since she playing Rogue.

 Why do you assume Rogue would have to be blonde? Anna Paquin dyed her hair blonde and she can just as easily dye it brown again or wear a brown wig. Halle Berry wore white wigs while playing Storm. Actresses dye their hair and re-dye it other colors all the time. The real possible problem is if the filming for a schedule a sequel conflicts with filming of True Blood.

The old discussion about actors not returning is getting a bit annoying.

ALL the actors can come back if Fox wants it. Actors are paid for doing movies, so there isnt a problem about it.

Discussion closed.

It requires money to get actors to come back and a few more of them have now hit the big time so they demand more money.

If it were that easy, Angamb, X4 would have been green-lit right after X3 was released.

There's also the fact that some actors will refuse a role despite the amount high amount of money that might be offered.

Yes, some actors actually have a since of self determination that doesn't necessarily have to do with money but rather their own dreams of what they want to accomplish as an actor.

Many a times I see us, the audience along with people like me and you who go on forums to discuss actors as tools with a value attatched to them. While that may be the case with many not all of them adhere to this.

If X4 is made, Scott should be the hero of the thing. If he does come back and he didn't actually die in X3, it would be great to see the film focused on him and saving the team or something. It would definitely make up for how he's been treated in the past decade.

Yeah if they all were very interested in doing X4 then it would have already been greenlit. I think they all wanted to move on except for Hugh who really loves being Wolverine.

X3 wasn't that bad that it needs to be forgotten, every movie series always has a weak link and in this case it was x3, it wasn't as good as the first two but it was still entertaning imo.

A hell of alot better than Spider-man 3, Batman Forever or Blade Trinity imo

I think there a number of ways X4 can pick up after Last Stand. I would not mind if it relates around Mr. Sinister tracking Scott/Jean at akali lake. taking samples of Jean's DNA and Scott's body back to his diggs. Then he could re-awaken Scott(with amnesia) and say he found him and Jean (actually Madelyne Pryor) and convince Scott to work with him...then you could have Scott figuring out his past while he fights some X-men, and then turning on Sinister at the end.

The problem with X3 needing to be undone wasn't that it was the worst movie ever (more just extremely disappointing after the stellar build up X2 gave it), but that it caused major damage to the franchise by killing several key characters. Xavier and Cyclops need to return for the franchise to move forward. Spider-Man 3 was god-awful, but the only major character gone at the end was Harry. The story could have still gone with Peter and MJ trying to pick up the pieces of their relationship.

Last Stand had my favorite X-team lineup of any of the movies (Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, Beast, Iceman, Shadowcat). I'd have really liked to see X4 progress with a more team based movie. I think it could have been possible with the right story. I was hoping that First Class would have been a team movie it looks like it revolve mostly around Xavier and Magneto.

a lot of the X-Men comic story lines involve time travel... so for X4 to work wouldn't it be easy for a new set of mutants in trouble to (against Apocolapse perhaps?) get someone to go back in time and stop Jean from losing control of her powers so that she can face off against the newer evil... and in doing so, stop her killing Scott & Xavier....?

I could see something like that, and I wouldn't exactly have a problem with that.

Do a Days of Future Past type deal, where the death of Xavier led to a meltdown in human / mutant relations, Sentinel programs being approved of and sent forth, and thus led to a horrid future. Future mutants design a time machine to go back in time and stop Xavier from being killed, which would mean stopping Jean. It would undo the events of The Last Stand, without ignoring them. The Last Stand still sits as "official" continuity because the events that occurred lead to what happens in the X-Men: Days of Future Past movie, but those events that people hate have a chance of being undone.

I guess this is the point I'm trying to make though, is why does the franchise necessarily have to continue past X-Men: The Last Stand? Stories end, even stories with multiple installments. I'm not saying I agree with how it was handled, because I don't agree with killing Cyclops and Xavier, and curing Rogue, but I don't see the fact that future sequels can't be made as "damaging". Things gotta end.

My biggest issue is that X-Men has so many great characters, and has a history full of great stories (at least back when I was reading the books back in the day). Its disappointing to have a set of films that happen within a couple months time - and thats the end.

I wanted to see the X-Men grow as a team and a family over time. To see the characters and team develop. If they had done it right we could have had 6 great X-Men films.

This is why,Im with those saying just reboot with First Class. With the exception of Batman, who needed a reboot (I never liked ANY of the previous films) I havent been too keen on the reboot craze - but if anyone needs it, X-Men does.

And I completely agree with your comments on Spiderman. I wont be seeing the new films.

BAFTA Masterclasses - Cinematography with John Mathieson
19 January 2011
£12, £11 concessions, £10 ICA Members

February sees the release of cinematographer John Matheson’s latest creation with the release of the eagerly awaited re-make of Graham Greene’s Brighton Rock (Dir Rowan Joffe) - quiet a journey from first gaining recognition for his ground breaking video Peek-a-Boo for Siouxsie and the Banshees in 1988. He then went on to work with some of the most successful pop artists of the 90s, including Madonna, Prince and Massive Attack. Following his work with John Maybury on Sinéad O'Connor’s video Nothing Compares 2 U, Mathieson went on to photograph the award winning Love Is the Devil (Dir John Maybury 1998) and after working as visual effects cinematographer on Enemy of the State (Dir Tony Scott1998), he photographed the film Plunkett & Macleane (Dir Jake Scott 1999). Mathieson then went on to photograph four features for Ridley Scott , one of which was Gladiator (2000) for which he was nominated for an Oscar and won a BAFTA for best Cinematography in the same year. Mathieson’s second Oscar nomination came for The Phantom of the Opera (Dir Joel Schumacher 2004) and yet while many of these successes have been big budget film productions, Mathieson continues to also work on independent British features such as Trauma (Dir Marc Evans 2004). John Mathieson will be discussing more of the above plus his latest ventures hot off the set from X-Men: First Class (Dir Matthew Vaughn) due for release later this year.

One can only hope. Also. that logo is laughably fan made.

I'm surprised no official photos from Fox have come out (i.e. nothing with Fassbender and McAvoy, or even January Jones), let alone when we'll get a teaser trailer.

It's five months, people. We should've gotten a trailer last month, waiting until February to start marketing X-Men: First Class is pushing it.
