Days of Future Past X-men First Class Sequels?

What should come next?

  • Nothing, it should lead into X1

  • Continue with McAvoy finding Jean, Scott etc

  • Continue but with the cast of characters they have now

  • It shouldn't continue at all, I won't like it >:(

I'd kinda want aliens/Shi'ar after Sinister before Apocalypse.

I don't see a point in going "aliens" big until they've mined other concepts like The Sentinels, Sinister, Apocalypse, etc. I wouldn't mind if it got there eventually, as long as it was well handled, but I think there are better, more relevant stories to be told first.

The unique strength of X-Men for me is it's social commentary, how humanity treats people, so I'm uneasy about getting extra-terristrial at all, quite frankly.

While I agree it's social commentary, I disagree that it's the only way it should be treated.

You make it sound like social commentary is a limitation. It doesn't have to be specifically applied as to make direct political points or anything, but for me the draw is using these extraordinary events to explore relatable, ordinary people.

I find someone earthbound like Stryker far more interesting than an alien that has no bearing on real life.

**** Stryker. Good character, but hes been a part of this franchise way too much. I hope they never bring that guy back. There are good X stories with Aliens that are just as interesting as others in comics and movies. Should they show up now in FC2? No. If the script called for it I wouldnt be against it though.

Thats always been the core to the X Men. Besides Beast and Mystiques sub plot, FC hasnt really touched whats possible yet. With Magneto busting Emma out I really doubt the Government is gonna just sit around, call and leave everything up to Prof X and crew again. They will see Mutants as an even bigger threat in XFC2. If they dont want to dive directly into Sentinels right away, they should at least set up the idea of them and possibilities with how to handle the situation. If the general public finds out about mutants in XFC 2, even a bigger reason to address them. That should create extreme fear into humans and mutants. The first reaction of the public to Mutants is really where FC can bring something different and heavy. This should be the mutants main threat. I wanna see Magneto pushed by Humans hardcore. Not just give speeches.

Agreed. We need to broaden the human hate beyond Stryker.

Oh yeah totally. I wasn't implying I want him back at all. Great for one film, then move on.

I may be out of current X-Men storylines, but please tell me that's not in the comics. :csad:

I don't read recent X-Men comics, but I was told about that last year by someone who loves the franchise a lot

Ooohh they're bad, they're so bad they're worse than something like making Apocalypse the son of Scott Summers

I kinda remember something about him being the abandoned child of Christopher Summers, but that would make him and Cyclops brothers. I never thought that was cannon.

Definitely. I was just showing some Stryker hate for what that SOB did to Deadpool in XMOW haha

The X-Men are a Fantasy based comic featuring very real very dark elements and realities. Having Aliens, Sentinels and Apocalypse does not distract from that it adds to their struggle and makes the audience sympathize with them, I would go into detail but I have already gotten into this argument far too many times on this side of the Hype. Whats funny is that its the fans, not the GA, who won't accept it at least not until it's done and they see that it can work which I hope Avengers inspires Fox to do.

So it was originally not cannon? but became another Killing Joker?

Never mind I looked it up, that was a story that was going to be a prelude to Rise of Apocalypse but never actually happened. I remember hearing bout it. Cycops dad sleeps with some random chick, she gives birth to powerful mutant, time traveler takes him and leaves him in egypt.

I dont know what story your friend was talking about. I know Cyc has fought him a few times. But cant recall Apocalypse was ever the son of Cyclops.

Agreed.

The only aspect of The Avengers that should have an influence on Fox is how to promote a film properly. I don't want aliens anywhere near the mutants in the movieverse.

Plus, I don't understand the need of turning one film into blueprint for future films of the same genre. It happened with TDKR - suddenly all the CBMs had to "learn a lesson" from Nolan. I like that First Class has nothing to do with TDKR, and I'll hate if Second Class tries to mimic Avengers. No thank you.

Fox markets the X movies pretty good imo, they should take note from the Avengers on how to adapt characters from comic to screen properly, Crossover and develop character through multiple X films films and make better use of the team. The X men films have yet to use their characters/timelines potential (besides Mags) or even make a film that really gets down the team aspect. While FC didnt abuse any characters, the biggest note it should take is this bs that things cant work in the movie verse. Its not just about Aliens/time travel and how use of heavy Sci-fi can work.

The main thing Fox can learn from Marvel and The avengers is how to make an EPIC final battle.

The Avengers had a great final battle, tho I think it could have been even better, in term of some powers, and Im sure the X-men can have a better batttle yet.

Hopefully for the final part of this new trilogy, with the young Scott, Jean, Storm and the current x-men. That can be sooooooooooooo epic and special at the same time. I'll be waiting.

I agree the marketing for Avengers was better - in terms of posters and press material, especially. But the Avengers also had the advantage of anticipation since first mentioned in the post-credits scene in Iron Man in 2008, so it had five years of build-up.

They don't belong in the First Class franchise. Certainly not at this early point.

Not so much a direct template, but there are things like marketing; creating an expanded/crossover movie universe; letting directors do their thing without executives interfering too much; taking the comics/fanboys into consideration, without pandering; and even the way characters' screentime is shared without one character dominating and others being marginalised.

There were some crappy posters for First Class, and McAvoy gave a very half-hearted interview on the Graham Norton Show in the UK.

Marketing was much better for Avengers, though it also the advantage of five years of build-up.

I rather suspect that some of the money for marketing First Class was diverted into completing the film to meet the deadline, though that is just my suspicion for the cause of the low-key promotion.

Considering Fox has X-Men and ALL associated mutants (that's a helluva lot of characters in many different series), plus Fantastic Four (including Skrulls, Silver Surfer), and also Daredevil, the attempt at creating a movie universe has been dreadful.

Even the X-Men films themselves have been done one at a time, with no planning or mapping out of the franchise. Hence the inconsistencies and continuity issues. Not a good way to organise a superhero series. The studio has not exploited the potential of what it owns at all.

Depends what sort of heavy sci-fi. I wouldn't want aliens in First Class. They are more for follow-ups to The Last Stand.
