Sequels X-Men: First Class

Once again Donner proves herself to be completely clueless about this franchise. While I understand the HP comparison.... HP as a model for X-Men???? You can't be serious. They can't cast 14-15 year olds for these roles, and it will be laughable bringing in 18-19 year olds to play 15 year olds especially if they are thinking long term franchise, which is another thing I do not forsee. If they want this to be a franchise, they have to reboot and start from scratch. I wouldn't put that against them entirely, but the idea that Fox is just going to completely rebuild the franchise is... well, a bit unrealistic to say the least. Plus I think it'd be more cringe worthy having Fox reboot X-men and not Marvel.

HP is a franchise based on a school for kids with powers who battle evil forces. It's the obvious comparison to make.

At least she didn't say it would be like Gossip Girl, as the writer is the creator of that show. i'd rather it veer in a Potter direction than mutants running round saying 'xoxo'.

First Class is obviously a series of films leading up to X1, or a reboot of sorts.

There is no way they are doing a trilogy of teen films with no Wolverine. If that's what they have in mind the first movie will flop and we'll be getting Wolverine 3 soon thereafter.

I hope that is what they have in mind. Stop wishing more Wolverine on us.

If they do a prequel trilogy then it just can't be about the school. The focus can be on the kids and the school, but they'd need to focus on a lot of different things and different characters. Maybe a movie from the Brotherhood perspective with the X-men as a backdrop even. Maybe a good portion of a film committed to characters like Gambit and the mutant world outside the school. Not saying there is a lack of material, but it can't be about the same 4-5 mutants growing up together like the HP movies. That's why I figure just do a Magneto movie, a First Class film... and should really be enough to cover it I would think.

I agree. Some teenagers having fantastical adventures while going to school is better then just pure teen drama, which is what I am primarily afraid of this film being about (the Gossip Girl writer being around doesn't help alleviate that fear).

So based off LSD comments it seems like Prof. X never really intended to form the X-Men, but because some of his students are rebels and havin adventures it will eventually lead to the X-Men being formed...so far I'm liking....X-Men:Evolution(s1/3) meets X-Men:TAS(s1) I just hope the kinds are not 14-15, pleez 18-21 or older for Hank...

What do you think of Mike Newell directing this he has dealt with kids in school .With potter and Mona Lisa smile as well as directing a big action fantasy film in the upcoming POP movie.

I'd like to see them make First Class be literally the first adventures of the X-men prior to the events of X1. Many on here mentioned Magneto being in the first one with Sentinels in sequels. I'd like to see that! I see no reason for Origins Magneto if they do a First Class because they could have Magneto be good and then turn bad and be the villian at the end. THe aftermath could cause the Sentinels to rise. For beginning X-men we already know Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Beast so add Storm and Banshee. I think it would work quite well.

The X-Men should be Professor X, Cyclops, White Queen, Marvel Girl, Beast, Storm and Banshee. Moira and Forge should also be with the X-Men

Bring back Patrick Stewart, Tim Pocock, and Hailey Ramm to reprise their roles as Professor X, Scott and Jean.

Tahyna Tozzi is a good pick based on looks and she looks alot better with her hair let down so they can bring her back for continuity but Blake Lively would also work as Emma Frost.

Katerina Graham from the Vampire Diaries could play Storm and the boy from Spy Kids can play Banshee.

I have no type of idea of who should play Beast?!?

ya, Beast, is a hard one

I've been trying to think of possible candidates, most of the names I keep coming up with are for older actor (which I'd personal kinda prefer Beast to be older, but, still most of them wouldn't fit in with a younger cast)

The only possible candidate for a younger pick, that I have considered is maybe, Matt Dallas??

I am just want some more gambit action. We hardly saw him at all... it was rather disappointing to me.

Taylor Lautner, 17 would be a good Beast, saw him on Leno and he looks, well beastly and has all those martial arts and awards... (cringes into a ball, awaiting the hurling of harsh responses)

i didnt care for Taylor as Gambit. i wont lose any sleep if they never decide to bring him back (actor or character).

I am kinda on the wall about the whole thing. I mean he did alright as Gambit...but I think there are better actors out there that could pull off the whole I am Gambit, I love gamblin', cards, women and of course some fine Cajun cookin' I mean Taylor didn't even have an accent. Being from the south my self, not hearing even a slight southern accent was a real disappointment. He didn't even have red on black eyes longer than like two seconds. I know people are like well...it would look real fake. But they did it for Storm, Mystique and Kurt. So there really isn't an excuse. I just want a really good director for first class. I want someone who actually read the comics, watched the cartoons and fell in love with them like we did. I mean come on!

-Sorry for the rant...:D

eh... if he didn't he didnt watch or read them well.. majority of the movie's faults had nothing to do with either the comic or tv show based events.

Yeah... no. Never.

Besides, I think Beast should be several years older than the others. Even though he was blue and furry, you can tell he wasn't in the same age range as Storm, Jean and Cyclops.

Beast when he just started with the X-Men was a big clunky looking guy with that gadget to make him look human. A little guy won't work. I was actually very impressed by Kelsey Grammer.

I'd also vote for an X-Men origins story (Please be better than Wolverine) with Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Beast, Wolverine, etc. Keep it basic and simple, nothing over-the-top and insane. Set up the story and characters so that we can get 3 good films as opposed to 1 and then 2 average/poor films. Or in the case of Wolverine, 1 bad film with more on the way.

Wolverine shouldn't be in X-Men: First Class. There is no reason for him to be there. They already entertained the notion of Wolverine previously interacting with the X-Men in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. It isn't necessary in First Class. It only serves to make Wolverine seemingly meeting the team for the first time in X-Men even more ridiculous.

He doesn't have to be there in the first film but definitely further on. Wolverine has been a part of so many different hero teams it would be difficult to tell that story so it would be wise to simplify with him just going to the X-Men and maybe telling his story and not showing that whole saga.

as long as these films remain prequels to the franchise and are still within the established continuity Wolverine CANT show up in these films. besides there's no doubt theyre gonna try and milk the Wolverine solo films for as long as Hugh can go.
