Sequels X-Men: First Class

i'd call the Jean's House fight scene and the final battle still very much a team fight scene... sure some were divided into 1 on 1 battles, but none the less all was happening at the same time and visually as a scene, especially at jeans house, the fights were interwoven. Unlike X2's Deathstrike fight, and X1's Magneto fight... X1 probably had more of a team fight then X2 with liberty island, but in X2 honestly most of the mutants honestly didnt do much other then wolverine and the quick jean vs scott fight... though the Nightcrawler opening scene of course rocked, but none of those were "team fights"

Storm, Iceman and Colossus (as well as kitty) all had pretty good fight scene moments imo... Storm and Iceman both got the power upgrade, storm with flying and really letting loose with her abilities and Bobby with finally getting some nerve to take on pyro, and lets not for get... ICEING UP FINALLY.

I think when people talk about wanting the X-Men to fight as a team, they're talking about group tactics and teamwork rather than just dividing and conquering. Things like the Fastball Special (which thankfully did make it into X3) and the like.

i think you honestly need a nice mix of both... I loved the fact that in X3 the fight scenes were fast paced, and all going on at once. and I really wish Singer was allowed to do his Toad vs Nightcrawler fight in X2... that woulda been epic.

hell alot of things at least in the X2 book would have been soooo amazing in the film. In the book (not sure if singer ever wrote this part) but during dark cerebro's effects on mutants powers were all affected, much more then just mystique's. Jean aparently went a bit phoenix-y, iceman iced up and rogue aparently could see his ice heart beating, nightcrawler was stuck in a teleport i believe, and kitty was in a shopping mall when she was stuck in phasing mode... and as the earth rotated she was stuck phasing through everything.)

So really, all this movie is - is just a prequel to the other movies he's already done... Being in the industry for over 20 years, that's what it sounds like through his choice of words. And to be honest, I find that disturbing. I guess Fox will need some time to really figure it out that most franchises that refer to the source material without changing up the characters is the best way to get a good return on their investment.

Harry Potter didn't add in new characters, Neither did The Dark Knight, or even Spiderman - except for little Gobby Jr. which Sony now realizes their error. Bottom line, people want to see what they remember in books or where ever the material came from. Not some studio changing things around for sake of saving money or making it more interesting. If that's the case, don't do it at all, or let some other studio that will respect the creators franchise do it justice. Not hack it up as they see fit... Bring back the O5, or bring in the Original Ultimate X-Men team. It's that simple.

This whole Magneto vs. Xavier thing is pointless, because in X1 through X3 they're good friends. Both they're calm demeanors resonate a long and mutually respectful friendship, so I don't see how having them duke it out in a prequel is going to do this franchise justice if we all know they're going to be friends in 3 of the 5 movies.

I want to get my hands on that treatment!

-that was actually in the comics.... they just completely retooled him

-did you not watch the X-men franchise? or read any X-men books? Xavier and Erik will always be friends deep down. They just completely disagree on there methods and philosophies. They were best friends at one point... in X1-X3 they were against eachother. Magneto has always been clearly a villain, but a very flushed out and one you could potentially feel for.

-as for your beef about it being a prequel... that's pretty much been confirmed since it's beginning.

Oh, no no! I meant Singers treatment for First Class. I'm so intrigued.

yeah, id like to see what his plans are... if he's making xavier and mags 20 something.. i really hope that's just pre-x-men time... not during it's creation with the kids.

Though one thing i always wondered... You'd think during the building of cerebro, magneto and xavier would have shared the idea of having a team... considering both had one when split (x-men/brotherhood) that change in x history i actually wouldnt mind... have them form a team of brotherhood members and X-men... then it's split apart.

I wouldn't be surprised if the idea of X-Men and Brotherhood didn't happen until near the end of the movie when Magneto becomes convinced that there is a war coming and that they'll need to have soldiers. It'll probably occur when the split happens, with the earlier scenes having Xavier desperately hoping he could have his students live peacefully under his care.

Well the movie is called first class... it's gonna deal with that. What you're describing pretty much is how i'd imagine the magneto film

I'm still puzzled by the fact that that statement is outside of Singers quotes. Where did Variety get that from?

I had the same thought a few pages back. I'd actually love that idea. Makes you rethink who the first class is.

What if it's Scott, Jean, Beast, Storm, Mystique, Toad?

I would like a bit more Toad in the X-Films. I always liked Toad.

I still wonder if the kid with the tongue in Xmen origins was toad... or is it the other tongue kid in X2

I think the dude in XMO was Toad or they could always make him Toad. Prof X picked all those kids up so if that was Toad he would be at the mansion where Magneto could get ahold of him (if that was the route they're taking)

I think so.... together with Quicksilver... but Quicksilver has to die in First Class so as to not make it into X1 :(

nah he doesnt

id personally hate to see mystique ever be a student... i always loved the idea that she's really old and been on her own for a while... aging slowly, or hiding it.

I think the first brotherhood should be Toad/Avalanche/Jason Stryker/ and Wanda and Pietro (depending on how marvel/fox is sorting those 2 out (id like them to be in both an x-men and avengers film, but fox may not play by those rules. If that was the case... wouldn't mind any of the following (Emma Frost, Sunfire, Thunderbird/warpath, domino, morph, blink, juggernaut, destiny, havok, polaris) join in there place. infact.. i think Polaris and Havok could be far more interesting then wanda and pietro

 The Harry Potter movies take an insane amount of liberties when compared to the books, rearranging characters and scenarios all the time... and that's if they make the cut in the first place. In The Dark Knight, the entire Rachel Dawes arc, spanning two movies, is a fabrication. That character didn't even exist before Nolan and company created her out of thin air. As for Spider-Man, his entire origin is retooled. They ditch Gwen Stacy, alter his powers, and make him an angst ridden high school student who only has eyes for Mary Jane Watson from the beginning, among other changes, which is hardly accurate.

I was thinking about it the other day, and was wondering, if they do recast Mags and Xavier (with younger actors)....

as a way of still giving, Patrick an Ian, cameo roles
what about, using them as the fathers or grandfathers (or some other relative) of they characters, if they show scenes of they childhood or young past???
(maybe, just change up they looks alil with make up and stuff, so, they don't look exactly like they original characters)

Glad Singer is gonna merge the Magneto movie with the First Class movie... although we get lesser magneto story, it was probably gonna be quite boring anyway... at least for me, because i would rather see the good guys fight the bad guys rather than see the bad guy grow up

I hope the movie will have a second villain. I know it's going to be an origin Movie and seeing Magneto is inevitable, but I'm getting tired of seeing the same villain again and again.

I don't think Magneto will be the main villain. From what Singer said the film will mostly show Magneto and Xavier as friends and there will be an all new villain.

OMG I was just thinking that!!! Since Singer was qouted sayin that 1st class would deal w/some of the mutants from X-Men, would Mystique & Toad be their and when the split happens they leave with Eric...and thats how the team got reduced to Scott/Storm/Jean (and whenever Beast left) in X1....sounds cool, but I would hope Emma wld play a part, who knows maybe jean was never officially apart of team until she was forced to use her powers and help the team ala Wolverine & The X-Men epi. "Shades of Gray", hmm I wonder if Singer watched that epi. & got ideas...

I don't think Singer is best suited for bright, lively, enthusiastic kids learning to grow and cope with their problems. He did a great job in X-1 but the focus wasn't on the kids as much as it was the main characters. He is better off with the more mature, thematic, characterization stuff with older veteran actors. Magneto was an obvious choice, but maybe Fox just decided it was cheaper to do a 2 in 1.

I disagree, because Singer is a "out" (hopefully)proud gay man, I belive he can write a powerful story about them, being different, outcasts, probably wanting to commit suicide, or run away from there homes/problems...these are all issues young teens face gay or straight WE ALL at 1 point go through these emotions...

Its one of the reasons why I missed him n X3 w/the cure plot, him being a gay man how would he feel if someone came along and said "theirs a cure for being gay!" it would've set up an emotinal story minus the phoenix sub-plot because it would've went back to the roots in X1 and how Storm is afraid/angry because of how humanity has treated her.

I don't know if that's the best politically correct analogy, but I get your gist.

I always thought it was obvious that "First Class" was what was being called "Magneto" in the past. Magneto will not be the villain in the first one, but by the time they are finished [I would assume another trilogy here] he will be. Think of this as Star Wars Ep 1-3.
