X-Men - Part 2

I feel like Cyclops hasn't really been Cyclops in a while. Ever since he took of Utopia, he's been a radically different character. Even Morrision/Singer's emasculated version felt like a riff on the character, but this guy... what does he stand for? The ends justifying the means, and I don't really see how he got there. I've read a lot of the big event books, and I don't see it.

That's what I loved about Cyclops, as emotionally stunted and standoffish, and stoic and by the book as he was, he was about an ideal. He was the responsible one. He was the one trying to be a good guy in a very grey world.

What they've done with him, and are doing with him, is to make him interesting and sell books, but its not for Cyclops fans. He's not built to be enjoyed, he's built as a foil, and no matter how hard they prop him up, I can't help but see that, which means an inevitable fall. And with Wolverine being the one he's up against, I fear for how far that fall will take him. It certainly won't be like Iron Man, with a mindwipe of the last few years and a heroic return in the next big event. People on the rebel/power fantasy- the majority of readers/writers/editors like seeing Cyclops as the bad guy, even when he was a good guy, he was the problem in getting things done/getting Jean, even as far back as the 1993 cartoon. I really doubt that I'll ever get him back in a way that I can empathize and identify with. He may always be a Magneto without the emotional justification, merely a practical one, if that.

Xavier is a master manipulator. For the past 5 years, he's been viewed by the X-Men (as far as I'm concerned) as being a non factor in things. I'm expecting sometime soon we are going to see Xavier put the wheels in motion to take back leadership of the X-Men. Everybody has a role to play in this split.....Xavier's is gonna be huge.

As far as Regenesis goes, I enjoyed it very much. It explained what folks are going where and why so no time is wasted on it come the relaunches. Psylocke is going to be a key figure. I have a feeling she is going to spy on Logan and eventually expose X-Force. They spelled it out in this issue and judging by the upcoming solicits for Uncanny X-Force, it's almost a definite. The scenes with the sides fighting in animal skins I could have done without. It was all symbolism that wasn't needed, just tell the story.

The last page of X-Men: Reunited #6, coming in Fall 2013...

Magneto: "I say, Charles! Between the school reopening on the east coast, the X-Men serving as beloved guardians on the west coast while actively participating in the rest of the heroic community in New York, my sudden acceptance with the general public, the two X-Men teams recently reuniting, and you once again being put in charge, one might be inclined to think you had manipulated Summers and Logan all along to quickly achieve your long term goals."

Charles: "Why Erik, you make me sound like some sort of Machiavellian mastermind."
(*grins slyly, sips glass of wine, and looks directly at the audience*)

I read X-Men: Regenesis and decided I'll be picking up Wolverine and the X-Men. Curses, they've dragged me back in! :cmad:

I'll be trade-waiting Wolverine and the Blowfish.

Well look who's coming back
sabertooth_color.jpg
Those of you who have been clamoring for Sabretooth to make Wolverine's life miserable, he is coming back," Loeb said. How can that be possible, since Sabretooth was decapitated? "If you go back and actually look at 'Evolution,' and particularly the last issue of that story, it is there. We did leave bread crumbs along the way. It's not going to be a time travel trick."
..Quesada said they won't reveal what's coming right now, but they will give a clue: A slide with what sure looks like a Phoenix bird, and these names: Aaron, Bendis, Brubaker, Coipel, Fraction, Hickman, Kubert, Romita Jr. Plus the year, 2012.

Let's create a sword that neutralizes healing powers, use it to kill Sabretooth, and then render that entire story moot after only a couple of years.

In fairness, the "sword that neutralizes healing factors" idea was pretty stupid.

so was Brand New Day, but they've stuck with that for several years.

is there a current Phoenix host? last I heard it was split up inbetween the Stepford Cuckoos...

No, but Jean seems to be pulling all the pieces of it together into the White Hot Room, as mentioned before from the Endsong mini. She pulled the fragments from the Cuckoos, as well as the fragments held by Rachel and Korvus' sword. But it does seem to be tied to Hope as well.

Thing is Sabretooth's soul was just seen in Hell.If Loeb is writing this I have no interest.Aaron has been awesome on Wolverine and really that's all I need of Wolverine for now.

Is it just me or is Sabretooth just not that interesting a villain at this point? He's just an amoral Wolverine. And Wolverine's enough of a dick himself that a meaner version of him isn't anything special...

My thoughts exactly. I'd like to see a return to Cyke's roots, not Wolverine and the X-Men vs Cyclops and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants!

Considering the route they are going with Wolverine and the X-Men (ie. Wolvie wants the kids to be students, not soldiers) I can see potential for Sabretooth trying to wreck it for him. He's a good antagonist for whenever Wolverine's going soft.

This makes me :woot:

Dude, this is a line wide deal! Brubaker (Captain America), Fraction (Iron Man, Thor), Bendis (Avengers), Aaron (Wolverine & the X-Men), and Hickman (Fantastic Four).

And the art on this is fantastic! Coipel and Kubert has me excited. Even Romita Jr. (who's hit or miss with me) should look good with this company.

I'm officially intrigued, though I'm surprised at not seeing Gillen and/or Remender in connection to this project since it seems like it should be more X-Men heavy.

I'd love to, for once, see a chronological crossover without all the tie-ins everywhere. Like the X-Men books do it. Part 1 in Wolverine & the X-Men, Part 2 in Captain America, Part 3 in New Avengers, Part 4 in Mighty Thor... etc. It won't happen but I'd like it if they did that.

I'm not jumping to any conclusions about that promo image. I want to know what the premise of that crossover will be.

It'd be impossible to not bring Jean back during something like this. Line wide cross over. Phoenix involved. Consider my interest stoked.

Have we not learned a thing???
How many times has Marvel teased Jean's return???
This will probably be the return of Johnny Storm or Firelord

Bet she comes back in that event only to die again at the end. :o

Thank you. I'm tired of jumping every time Marvel releases an image with a firebird in it. I bet this will have nothing to do with Jean's return.

I guess everyone forgot about the firebird image that was shown at Comic con that teased Jean's return only to have it be Colossus instead
