Ok, this has nagged at me for a while, and I have to say something.

Fans need to butt out of the equation.

The one time Raimi and crew give you guys what you asked for, you guys turn around and complain. Well, you should've thought of that ahead of time.

You wanted more humor...Raimi delivered.

You wanted to see a villain be evil and stay evil....Raimi gave you Venom.

You wanted classic villains....Raimi went with Sandman.

You griped about Gwen....Raimi put her in (albeit for a small part).

It just goes to show that maybe next time, instead of claiming that Raimi doesn't give you what you want, maybe you aren't seeing the big picture.

Raimi makes movies, you guys don't. He knows what will work...note that when he allegedly wasn't giving you what you want, you claimed that those movies were great.

I agree 100%. There's no pleasing the hardcore fans.

Actually he did not give me what I wanted. I always said Venom should have waited for his moment. Eddie Brock should have been fleshed out more. I never needed more comedy. I only wanted Gwen if Kirsten ever vacated the role or was written out. Yes I got a classic villain who did not get much time to shine. And I wanted Avi to butt out. There you have it.

Eddie you are missing the boat here... no one wanted to see 5 minutes of Venom... EVERYONE (pre-Q&A script release) said they wanted Brock to be a SETUP... no one wanted him in as a main villain once we found out Sandman was in... once it leaked that he was in and killed in the final act we all went beserk... then it was too late.

Well I mean....everyone griped "Oh boohoo, the villains always turn good at the end!"

So Raimi made Venom stay evil...

I wanted the same magic that Spider-man 2 delivered.

And I was heartbroken. :csad:

Where was the magic dammit!?! :cmad:

I agree that Avi and Laura shouldn't have forced their input on Raimi, but that's Hollywood for you. They are looking from the box office perspective. And from that perspective, this movie will probably do well. It will probably be #1 this weekend and next. Will it stay on top when Shrek and Pirates come out? Probably not. But I still enjoyed myself and it was a nice way to start off the summer blockbusters.

it did lose some of the magic from Spidey 2, but 3 is still my favorite out of all of them so far.

Raimi hated Venom to begin with. Its only fitting he dies a horrible death after 5 minutes of screen time.

Greeaaaaaaaat input there, buddy.

Truth hurts, doesn't it?

It is what it is... But seriously. i feel bad now so i'll contribute. (hypocritical. maybe)

So yeah i agree, some hard core fans are pretty bummed out right now. I'll admit i'm pretty bummed too, but on the light of things at least i can say Spider-Man was a good trilogy. With the exception of the third. in a sense.

Then you would mean it was a good duology, right? Its only a good trilogy if u include 3.

I hope Avi's reading some of the "hardcore fans'" comments right now.

Well I don't mind what they did with Sandman... BUT the compassionate villain had run its course though... but here's the thing... Sandman wasn't the problem... it was his backstory... if he was a PURE villain that just wanted money they should have ditched the daughter... again more wasted screen time... the daughter did not work.... think about it

Sandman just robbing banks for money... Raimi STILL could have played the compassion edge with Sandman if he still stuck with Uncle Ben's murder being an accident... maybe Peter would still have forgiven him... the problem with that is how could Peter forgive a pure bank robber... so their hands were tied... thats why the Uncle Ben angle was probably the biggest mistake... no wonder everyone hated the idea... regardless Sandman should have been killed off soon thereafter instead of riding into the sun set.... the back story with Sandman ate way too much screen time

I think Eddie Brock Jr's generalising and he's totally right.

This doesn't excuse some plot holes and lazy scriptwriting, however :oldrazz:

Yeah pretty much. I liked that the trilogy moved forward. But i didn't necessarily like some of SM3's characters, or plots, but i can't say this franchise is ruined, because while this movie could have been so much more, the trilogy as a whole could've been so much less.... if that makes any sense.

Not everyone is gonna like the film . Plain and simple. To complain about people liking or not liking it , is futle IMO . It's all in the eye of the beholder. It's like getting mad at someone because they prefer Hamburgers to hotdogs. I personally didn't like it but i'm not upset that other people did.

I think the reason Raimi gave Sandman that backstory was because he wanted a more realistic approach. In real life, people do bad things for a reason, they're not just bad because they love being bad. Everyone has a motive for what they do, and sometimes the motives are understandable.

I think this thread is great. People who are hating on this movie just for the sake of it (You know who you are) should shut up and not even post here if they are going to do that. It's annoying, immature, and quite frankly, very jackassey.

I agree 100% with you, Eddie Brock Jr. I think that Spider-Man 3 us just a yes-movie for fans.

The point is, yes, fans wanted all of those things, but all of those things were delivered in a way that was not palletable.

Venom was not done correctly because Brock was not humiliated as much as he should have been. When he went to that church I just did not feel sorry for him. So he got caught faking a photo and he saw Peter with Gwen, so what? They did not emphasize his emotional pain much at all. I felt nothing for Venom or Brock.

The whole point of the symbiote was lost, to me. They did not emphasize that it gave Spider-Man super strength -- just made him some slick player or something. No backstory was given to the meteor -- it was just *there*. Venom was totally squeezed into a movie he didn't belong in. I totally agree with Raimi's initial feelings -- Venom needed to stay out of this. He was better off being a cliffhanger villain, and now a potentially lethal villain has been cut out of the picture because of fan outcries. There was very little Spidey-Venom hand-to-hand combat! No epic melee duels, which at least Spidey had with Green Goblin and Doc Ock.

Cut it any way you want -- Venom should have been saved for another movie. His plotline just did not fit.

I didn't want the origin ****ed with, more crying than in a daytime soap, VINO, and more cheese than in the dairy section.

I see what you are saying but a lot of the complaints are about the quality of the movie NOT fans being anal about how the characters were treated etc....
Rami had a chance to make a great movie but instead he made an o.k one. Heck the novel was a hell of a lot better than the movie, why didnt it play out like the book!
