Fans need to butt out of the equation.
The one time Raimi and crew give you guys what you asked for, you guys turn around and complain.
I haven't complained this entire way through. I thought SM1 was great, and that SM2 was good. I thought SM3 could have delivered a great film that wasn't swallowed up by the romance plot for two of the three acts. I was wrong.
So, should I just shut up and keep paying Sony because it's Spider-Man?
You wanted more humor...Raimi delivered.
When it's unintentional, that's not positive.
You wanted to see a villain be evil and stay evil....Raimi gave you Venom.
No. Raimi gave me a movie monster that goes "KREE!" every few seconds and is there to kill off Harry. Thinking that "that's Venom" is exactly why I don't think Raimi nor Sargent will ever quite understand the inherent complexity.
But, to take a token out of Doc Ock and Visionary's books, since Venom sucks because anything modern =/= a good film adaption that is given respect I should just be happy with my quick frames of my favorite comic villain. Right?
You wanted classic villains....Raimi went with Sandman.
Heh...no. Ask anyone off of the street what Spider-Man villain they were going to see the movie for and you won't get 'a classic' as a reply. Furthermore, ask them of all the available options in the classics of whom they would have liked to have seen in this film and I don't even think Flint would have been brought up. I'm being really presumptuous by admitting I don't speak for the whole...but we didn't want a classic villain. We just wanted something worth watching. The Sandman doesn't fall into that category. The character is so hollow most of what we see in this film is more than the whole comic backstory.
We got the Green Goblin. We got Doc Ock. Now it's about time we moved on past the classics.
You griped about Gwen....Raimi put her in (albeit for a small part).
A cameo, at best, better spent on a Felicia Hardy character who is better suited for the purposes of the film.
It just goes to show that maybe next time, instead of claiming that Raimi doesn't give you what you want, maybe you aren't seeing the big picture.
Raimi made a movie for himself that involved Spider-Man. He wasn't making it for any of us. Thus, there is no big picture. This was his goodbye, and he spent most of it putting the elements he enjoys the most into this movie by the gallon.
Raimi makes movies, you guys don't. He knows what will work...note that when he allegedly wasn't giving you what you want, you claimed that those movies were great.
10% is not a whole. The feedback from SM1 was great. The feedback from SM2 was more tepid but still enthusiastic. Now I'm dealing with people at my school who say by the dozen that "Spider-Man sucks" all over the third film. I hate griping, but it's about time we did a lot of it before we get an SM4 that's even moreso boring.
