The Dark Knight Rises Young Ra's Al Ghul - Does it mean flashback, or something else?

Maybe it's sort of an "all of the above" deal...Pence is Al Ghul from 30 years ago in a flashback where he throws/has Bane's father thrown into a volcanic pit (or some sort of pit requiring that greenscreen for effects), imprisons Bane, then Bane breaks out as an adult and it's ON!

I dunno....who knows?!

Probably just a flashback pertaining to Bane and/or Talia, is my guess.

...I've got a silver war dime that says no Talia in TDKR.

maybe the flashback scene is a flashback of talia's, as a young girl, therefore you would need a younger ras? just speculating here, if it were, it does lend itself to the whole 'marion is talia' theories. damn nolan you are killing us. :)

It means flashback since that's what Pence's scenes were already confirmed as.

Of course... he could have conceivably survived the monorail crash in "Batman Begins" or Liam's return could either be a flashback with Miranda/Talia (Marion Cottilard), or a full blown resurrection involving the Lazarus Pit. A very interesting development...

Everyone is looking at this as if Ra's being in it is telling ra's story

It's Bruce's story. Please to to refocus to how this will effect Bruce and what that story will tell, you'll so much closer.

With the way everybody is talking you'd think it wasn't Bruce story.

Makes me sad.

It's just pitch fever from excitement, a lot of us need to take a breathe and remember: Nolan is not trying to make a "badass" film, he's trying to tell a story.

Focus on how this'll fit into a story. I have some ideas but, I trust Nolan as a storyteller and if Ra's is back, I'm sure its going to propel the story greatly and not just a

Soo...... your telling me that Ra's isn't going to say that????

:woot:

If Pence is for 30 year old flashbacks, Neeson has gotta return to the present alive

Backstory for Bane, fellows. I'd expect that, but feel free to hope for a Lazarus Pit if you like.

I think this just beefs up the case for TDKR to be shown as a nonlinear narrative.

- Bane will have his origin story tied to the LOS and a young Ra's... with a young Talia (oops).
- Older Ra's will be shown in flashbacks, most likely visiting Bane in prison similar to Bruce in Batman Begins. Maybe even right after Bruce left the LOS and saved Ra's life?

Though, I don't think Bane's arc will as powerful if you bring back an older Ra's to the "present day" story line (having survived the crash in BB... I'm not a believer in the immortal pit angle).

Pretty interesting to speculate either way.

I'm glad Liam's in the film. Whether Ra's appears in the present timeline or in flashbacks, I'm glad he's back. I'd prefer to see Ra's in the current timeline, but who knows how Liam's role is written.

Maybe Ra's tries to tempt Bruce to kill again, like he did in Begins. Bane becomes an unstoppable force in Gotham, and Batman just can't get rid of him. Ra's comes in, I don't know how but in some way, and tells Bruce the only way to end the destruction is to kill Bane. Bruce struggles with this idea and thats how the film cirlces back to the first, with Bruces vow to never kill and his temptations to in the first.

Old Ra's Al Ghul- Does it mean Lazarus pit, or something else?

I have very mixed feelings about Neeson being back,I think Liam is always f'n awesome But his story arc in this one could go in many ways......Flashbacks or even use of the Lazarus Pit could be amazing and truly make this a trilogy..OR it could go downhill hard&fast since from his fist scene!!!!!

If Liam were to reappear in the present due to a miraculous recuperation, then his role would have to be sizable. There's NO WAY he'd just show up for a few scenes and then go away. That would be too much of a stretch to let go willy nilly.
And it seems just as unlikely to me that he'd show up at the end as a dramatic twist, because then we'd still have to go into how he survived... which would be a sizable plot point requiring a good deal of explanation. Just throwing in a magical element at the end of a hyper "realistic" series would be very odd indeed.
I just don't see it any way except for in flashbacks personally... but I love the idea of TDKR being nonlinear. It's Nolan's prefereed style; he's great at it; and it'd separate this movie from other super hero movies in a cool way.

There lot rumours of Neeson seen filming in London and Metro & Empire are running this story

http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=31249

"The Social Network’s Pence, who is on to play a younger version of Ra’s Al Ghul, the crafty villain first seen in Nolan’s universe in Batman Begins. Liam Neeson played him then, and Hitfix got a tip that Neeson has been seen filming scenes for Rises.

Since Al Ghul seemingly died at the end of Begins, there’s no word on whether this is a flashback or whether he’s been resurrected. But the character is famous for having the Lazarus Pits, which have been used in both the comics and the cartoon series to bring him back. They’re a little more supernatural than the realistic tone Nolan and co have taken, but they’re not outside the realm of possibility and sets that look very much like the pits have been spotted before.

We’ll have to wait and see exactly what Neeson’s appearance means, but it’s definitely an intriguing conundrum to ponder…"
