The Dark Knight Rises Young Ra's Al Ghul - Does it mean flashback, or something else?

Source? Haven't heard this.
He was at a Steelers game.

"Sources say Pence will appear in scenes that take place 30 years prior to the present story."

Yes, and since that's all we have to go on, that's all we can glean info from.

So for now? It might as well be true.
Yes, I'm just stating that there is no confirmation of anything. It's a take it or leave it scenario.

And the most likeliest of scenarios? Casting somebody who isn't Liam Neeson and who is younger to play Ra's probably means it...takes place in the past.

I know that. My intentions were to correct your statement that it was confirmed via press release, not to question the probability of said scenario.

Stop using logic, 072. We all know the sightings of Liam Neeson and Aaron Eckhart indicate that teh Talia!!! places their carcasses in teh Lazarus Pit, and then the film climaxes with Zombie Ra's, Zombie Two-Face, John Blake, Talia and Bane playing Ring Around the Rosie and the trilogy is brought full circle. :o Cut to credits. None of that flashback nonsense.

WHAT A TWEEST.

People can (and will) complain about things like the TDK costume all day...but I am insanely happy that we even get to talk about things like a movie featuring a young Al Ghul, and apparently Talia as well. Nolan rocks. Tis all.

I'm really intrigued about young Ra's Al Ghul being in this movie. The character of Ra's and Neeson's performance is one of my favorite things about BB.

Can't wait to see what this is about.

Because Bane building himself up from literally nothing while in prison his entire life to be the man who broke Batman is light years better than Ra's showing up and training Bane.

What about Bane using the League's resources to formulate his Venom and Ra's to gain martial training, then ditching them? He's connected to Ra's, and dared to go his own way (perhaps after beating up a boat load of LOS operatives who tried to stop him, including Ra's?).

We're not seeing a magical pool that brings people back from the dead.

"Sources say Pence will appear in scenes that take place 30 years prior to the present story."

Why is everyone so certain Ra's perished in the train sequence? If Batman got away, whose to say his master wasn't as skilled, if not more in escaping such an event? And if Batman was so quick at deciding to leave Ra's in that train, I bet he too had some certainty that Ra's would escape, probably injured but alive nonetheless.

We know when Pence will be placed in history, it is Liam who remains the wildcard. And while we've made our assumptions about Miranda being Talia, I suspect Ra's return might be the climatic surprise of the movie.

My interpretation of that scene was that he shut his eyes and accepted his fate, realizing the student had outwitted the master. To say he leapt off the train would somewhat ruin that scene for me.

Ditto.

Because then that's basically B(ane)atman Begins. The whole "dark mirror" thing could be just as present if Bane's origin was left in tact as presented in the comics.

Ra's closing his eyes is basically saying "Well played...Detective."

He died.

I read on some movie website a rumor that Ras Al Ghul (Liam) was to be featured in the last scene of the film... showing he's still alive and then the movie ends (ala the Joker card scene at the end of BB). The only problem with this rumor is that Nolan has stated TDKR has a definitive conclusion... so if Ras is in the last scene, then it will have more of a "and the adventures continue..." type feeling... not a "this is the end of Batman's story" type feeling.

Unless Bruce is laying in a casket, any ending will always imply "the adventure" continues.

TDKR's flashback probably covers 15-20 years, explaining why the younger and older Ra's are both in this film.

My interpretation of that scene was that he shut his eyes and accepted his fate, realizing the student had outwitted the master. To say he leapt off the train would somewhat ruin that scene for me.

I don't understand how it can ruin the scene unless you have no concept of Ra's. Growing up reading the comics and watching the Animated Series, Ra's entire routine was to magically escape death with everyone wondering if he died or not. There was no reason for Nolan to write a real death for Ra's--the mystery of him not being found after the wreck and us not actually seeing him die adds to the whole Ra's persona, both within BB, and in the Batman universe as a whole.

Basically: Ra's always escapes death, it should not surprise us to see him return (although his escaping death does not necessarily mean he will return).

so if Ras is in the last scene, then it will have more of a "and the adventures continue..." type feeling... not a "this is the end of Batman's story" type feeling.

So the Joker going "I believe we're destined to do this forever" isn't a "and the adventures continue" type feeling? We all know that the Joker isn't going to stay in Arkham for long, just as much as we have Ra's coming back time and again in the comics.

Besides, I won't expect Ra's to appear in the last scene. If he is alive, he will likely appear in the scene where Bruce travels to India to get healed. And his reappearance will also mark a conclusion for both the LOS and for the relationship between Batman and Ra's, that the LOS will forever be led by Ra's Al Ghul, and that while Batman and Ra's will always remain enemies, they will find respect enough not wish death upon each other.

Ra's shutting his eyes and accepting his fate?

The very essence of Ra's is his perennial attitude towards his goals, and his life. Would he just entirely give up because a student outsmarted him? Doesn't sound much like a leader to me, and I'm pretty sure the members of the LOS would give their lives for him for good reason. He would find a way to escape, to endure and to continue his mission. That's the character Dennis O'Neil created, and the reason why Ra's quickly rose to the status of being one of Batman's greatest foes.

I interpret that scene as Ra's acknowledging that Bruce had played a winning hand. But at the same time, with his mind set on the mission, he would find a way to escape to fight another day.

The train was leaving the platform. He was going toward his death whether he wanted it or not. And Batman knew this. He left Ra's to fend for himself rather than save him because it was the mess he started.

As much as I loved Lliam Neeson in the first movie(and all his other movies), I really hope he is dead and his appearance is just a flashback. To me it would be so cheeseball if he survived.

I can only assume you think the entire Ra's character in the comics is also "Cheeseball" since he always manages to survive these sorts of deaths.

Lol ras no choice but to accept his fate. If he was closing his eyes at that point and not doing something to get the hell out of dodge it means he'd pretty much given up cuz the train was about 1 second from total destruction lol. And as for the above posters uh so called... Plan to have ra's appear at the end.... Rotten Tomatoes has no jurisdiction. If that scene happens, they'll find Chris Nolan, and make him squeal, with about a 50 percent rt rating. Hope you ynderstoOd what I mean by that. Horrible idea.

No one is saying it will or should even happen. It's just a possibility because it is dumb to assume that Ra's is dead after his character escapes death time after time in the comic books. There are numerous instances of him coming closer to death than a train crash like the one in Batman Begins.

This isnt the Ra's from the comics though. Its actually dumber to assume he may be alive, quite frankly. Where was he in TDK? Im sure Im going to hear that he's "biding his time" or some BS like that. Please. Hes dead. Im sorry. Why have bane? Why not just say Ra's is coming back so at least we get the horrible cheeseball stuff out of the way now so everyone has time to digest it. Because I guarantee if Ra's is actually alive, this film will flop. Mark my words. Good thing for us that nolan is directing. No way hes bringing Ra's back(alive).

Comics are not movies. Movies are not comics.

And even if they were, similar stories can have different contexts. Something can be considered cheeseball in one context and totally fine in another.

That's not how things work.
