Your top 5 most anticipated films of 2013

Pacific Rim
Elysium
Twelve Years a Slave
Foxcatcher
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

I worry about the general audience getting superhero fatigue , but luckily I'm not feeling any of that. I think it could be even better. However we're getting some really interesting original sci fi films this year ( Oblivion , Pacific Rim , After Earth , and Elysium).
I think I already have it.

I'm kind of on Moore's side when he said comics were kind of meant for their format. Not that I have a huge problem with comic movies, but I'm past the point where I wonder how everything will look on the big screen. In fact I think comics are becoming a bit movie obsessed. All the new stories are overly cinematic. Remember when the X-Men was 90% hanging around the X-Mansion b*tching at each other? When 'going out for dinner' might have been a whole issue?

For me, comics were always about the small stories. The errant sexual thought Professor X had about Jean Grey. The repressed love between the young Scott and Jean. The angst between Logan and Scott. All of that stuff is so hyperbolic in comics now, I can't simply sit and enjoy and nice, polite story anymore.

I'm glad we aren't in a world where there are only like two or three good live action comic related shows and movies, but at the same time I also liked these better in some ways when it was my little niche' interest.

There's a world of difference between the [some of] money grubbing writing of today's comics and the old Stan Lee stuff. You can feel that those old Marvel's were stories someone wrote because they really loved those characters and felt they had something to say.

So I'm glad to see so much originality in 2013 (perhaps that even started in 2012).

1. Man of Steel
2. Pacific Rim
3. Thor 2
4. Elysium
5. Smaug

Special mention, Jack Ryan, just for Keira Knightley.

I am always up for another Hangover though, I must admit.

I want to be excited about Hangover 3, but I have to wait on the trailer. I didn't like the second film that much. The group facing a different scenario could be hit or miss. I hope it turns out good.

Slightly more hyped for that one than the sequel. I knew from the start the rehash wasn't gonna do it for me, and outside of a few laughs, it didn't.

1.) Man of Steel
2.) Pacific Rim
3.) Elysium
4.) Star Trek into Darkness
5.) Gravity

I've felt that way for three or four years now. The mere novelty of seeing these characters on the silver screen used to be enough to excite me, but they're so common now that that's there's really nothing at all original or exciting about them. In fact, they've kind of become the antithesis of that. Superhero movies have become safe, reliable moneymakers that Hollywood can churn out with no real style or substance to them.

The big exception to this of course would be Nolan's Batman films, but I fear that they'll become something of an anomaly in the grander scheme of things, with WB wanting to take Batman in a different direction in the future.

Yep, I'd agree. I have always been weary of it happening--especially with dogs like Fantastic Four, Green Lantern or X3, to name but a few, being released--but it didn't fully hit me until TASM. I grew up a Spidey fan first and Lizard was always my favorite villain. Now, it may be because I didn't like Lizard's interpretation, but the whole movie was a "meh" for me from a year out to seeing it. Just a rehash of the origin that did some things better and a lot of things worse.

Now, when I watch the trailers for MOS or IM3, I see both having the potential of being very good, but there is no excitement about it anymore. Just kind of a "we'll see." I feel like Avengers's novelty concept and TDKR's closing status to the Nolan trilogy got the last ounce of "hype" out of me.

That said, I am sure I will see MOS and IM3 unless the WOM is toxic. Both look to be at least very solid.

The sequel was quite inferior, but I still laughed, so I can do another.

I too have the fatigue, not that I don't think going to see a superhero flick is fun, but it used to be earth shattering. What haven't we seen these days. I actually feel the same about some of the sci-fi coming out this year. Oblivion looks like it is trying to hard.

I was listening to a podcast with Kevin Smith and he was talking about how after the Avengers (the first team up superhero film) and the Dark knight Rises(the breaking of the Bat/dark Knight returns) there aren't really any big classic stories left from comics, that haven't in some way been attempted on the big screen.

For instance even if they try to revisit some of the classic like the pheonix saga, it will always come after the attempt in the last stand.

1.Iron Man 3
2.Man of Steel
3.Star Trek Into Darkness
4.Thor The Dark World
5.The Wolverine

I'll also check out Lone Ranger (I hope to Heaven it's better than Green Hornet) and I'm looking forward to G.I. Joe 2.(But I'm still ticked that they wrote Scarlet out.)

I'll probably see the Hobbet films eventually, but I'm not such a LOTR fan that I can't wait for the DVD.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
Gravity
Elysium

I've been a bit cautious after seeing Spider-man 3. I can still get excited about seeing a superhero film , but there is a small percentage of fear going into it. I enjoyed Amazing Spider-man. However the mystery surrounding his parents felt unnecessary.

I've stopped collecting comics in the last few year and part of it had to do with the "events".

I still feel like the transition form comic to screen hasn't been captured perfectly. There have been great moments , but it's still feels like a interpretation over adaptation.

Star Trek Into Darkness
Iron Man 3
The Wolverine
Oz: The Great and the Powerful
Evil Dead

I stick to the classic comic books. Pretty much anything past the 90s is off my reading list.

Iron Man 3
Thor 2
Captain America 2
Fast 6
Riddick
Die Hard 5
Man Of Steel
The Wolverine
Pacific Rim
The Hobbit 2

Man this thread became a downer. I still believe in superhero movies! Then again I love movies more than I love comics.

My concern is there will be comic movie over load and people will get tired of comic movies. With Wolverine, Kick Ass 2 and the Sin City sequel along with Man Of Steel Iron Man 3 and Thor. I wonder if people will not care.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
Pacific Rim
Thor The Dark World
Man of Steel
Star Trek Into Darkness

Iron Man 3
Thor 2
G.I Joe Retaliation
Pacific Rim
World War Z

I'm planning on seeing The Wolverine an Man of Steel, but not trying to get my hopes up of them not sucking, especially after their previous movies sucked and MOS is trying to look like the Dark Knight movies.

Did anyone forget Jack The Giant Killer.

No.

Two smaller movies I'm looking forward to is The Place Beyond the Pines and Twelve Years a Slave. I loved both the last movies (Blue Valentine and Shame) from those directors.
