I wasn't too keen on them making fun of Octavius' name. I know it's a callback to how Peter met Strange in Infinity war, but it didn't quite land for me. It seems to ridicule the concept of Doc Ock a bit when Peter should be in fear and awe..
Yeah, that part made me cringe a bit. The laughter felt really fake too. Probably because it isn't that funny.

God I’m praying that Doc Ock destroys that silly Iron Spider suit quickly so I never have to look at it again. Everything about it is just lame from the arms to the design.

I cringe even more because people actually cheer when the suit shows up. :csad::csad::csad:

Strange: Do you know a Peter Parker who’s Spider-Man?

Doc Ock: Yes.

Strange(points at MCU Peter): Is that him?

Doc Ock: No.

Love this exchange.

I seriously got goosebumps hearing that.

Seems like the only reason people are watching trailers is for any glimpse, tease or hint at Tobey/Andrew. Its like we are ignoring the fact that there’s an actual movie besides that lol.

I hope we see Dr Strange interact with the other villains and the Spider-Men

I'm wondering if there will be change in Holland's mind about advanced suits after he sees how Tobey and Andrew fighting with ordinary outfits... Probably not, but who knows...

Nah….

The techy suits adds to the silly kiddy MCU appeal and helps with the merchandise sales for the little kids.

Sorry man….Unfortunately for us Those horrible suits aren’t going anywhere. Hell in this movie alone aren’t we getting like 3 or 4?

Just checked two of my local theater chains. One has it listed at 2 hours and 35 minutes, the other one has it at one minute:hehe:

Yeah, just rough placeholders so far.

Just realized I posted that in the wrong thread. Oops.

Eh...

I am not a particular fan of the overly teched up costumes either, nor the MCU Omni-Useful and somewhat lazy "nanotech" as an explanation for disappearing costumes and masks and so forth.

However... The simple fact is MCU Peter has actually been:

1. In more battles and violent confrontations than both Tobey and Andrew's Spidey's combined.

2. Those battles were against opponents or in situations that also often dwarfed whatever the two previous Spideys faced. Goblin, Ock, Venom, Sandman, Harry... They ain't the Black Order, or Thanos (Armed with Infinity Stones mind you, not a full set but it still pumped up an already Hulk level foe even more...) or a legion of Thanos' army, or a swarm of hologram producing drones attacking London with only Peter to defend it, nor did Tobey and Andrew help to take on a half the team of Avengers...

The high tech suits have helped to (If one really thinks about on a certain level of realism) to keep him alive.

Helped. He isn't"Iron Boy" regardless of how one feels about leaning into a mentor and student relationship with Stark. He was always brought in for what he himself can do but the tech suits help to bring him home in one piece from experiences (Going to battle a death god in outer space for instance) that Raimi and Webb Spidey just never did at the point we left them in their series of movies.

In other words... Why would he think in anyway shape or form that the way those other two Spideys go about it superior to how he's been doing the gig? Which... Is really just a wish fans have of hoping to see the feelings they have projected on to MCU Spidey in regards to his "inferiority" to whichever Spidey they prefer from the earlier incarnation.

Yea very tired of the red and gold this Spider-Man seems to always get. Adds fuel to the iron boy jr arguments

For the most part, I actually agree with you. There isn’t really much to go against since everything you said is mostly factual so not disagreeing.

I will say though, you are looking at it from the perspective of whether the suits make sense in the movie context or not and applying a bit of realism to it. Of course the suits make sense in the MCU world. Who in Tom Holland’s situation wouldn’t utilize all the suits and tech?

For me though, my issue isn’t that. I’m simply looking at it from a fans point and what appeals to me about the character of Spider-Man. To me, the suits, the tech, Iron man references and over reliance of all it quite simply….just isn’t Spider-Man. I personally just want some nerdy guy in spandex with some web shooters and keeping him as grounded as possible. A suit that literally has a computer AI to handle all your needs takes away from that aspect of the character in my eyes.

Anyway, from a story point of view it all makes sense. No debating you on that all. In the MCU world and this iteration of Spider-Man, all this tech and constant suits make perfect sense. Also it makes financial sense as well cause it’s just much easier to market all of it with merchandise and so on for kids. For me personally though, it’s just not Spider-Man or at least not a version I resonate with.

This.

Of course it makes sense for Peter to use it if he has it.

Still, it feels very un-Spidey. Even in the comics, Peter only used it during the Civil War event and not in day-to-day Spider-Man stories where he is just catching crooks or fighting Ock.

It would be like if Batman used the armored suit from Dark Knight Returns in your average Batman story where he is just fighting the mob or the Joker.

Also, on a thematic level, the suit symbolizes his connection to Iron Man... And by extension his disconnection from Uncle Ben and the working-class.

Seems like the only reason people are watching trailers is for any glimpse, tease or hint at Tobey/Andrew. Its like we are ignoring the fact that there’s an actual movie besides that lol.

Marketing-wise, it does seem like Tobey/Andrew have overshadowed this Spidey.

Nicely put. Never really looked at it in that way until reading that. Well said.

Thanks. :)

It's what it symbolized in the Civil War comic too. The Iron Spider suit was never meant as a long-term thing for fans to gush over - it was a metaphor for Peter having become Iron Man's lackey. Later him getting rid of it and going back to his regular suit was a metaphor for Peter regaining his independence and connection to everyday people when he joined Cap's side.

The movies completely missed the message of that.

Doctor Octopus vs. Iron Spider

its a fun little back and forth between Peter an Ock, but, Peter's reaction to Ock saying "hello Peter" as if he's suppose to know him seems odd since his identity is publicly known at this point
