DC Animation ‘Batman: Caped Crusader’: Animated Series From Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves Greenlit

This shows how messed up this all is.
The simples Sure money making thing you could do, a animated batman Show from the people that made one of the most beloved DC things ever...and you go "nope, dont want it"...thats messed up as hell.

I'm floored by this news. I cannot fathom the logic behind this. Your big money maker, the first proper animated Batman series in a decade with a crew to die for. WBD looked at this and thought ''Nah, I'm good thanks!''. And by the sound of it, it won't even air on Cartoon Network? Why throw your golden goose to a competitor? There is no way My Adventures with Superman moves forward if they don't want this.

Apparently the tax break deal for WBD ends at the start of September. I'm worried if they don't get a buyer by then, they'll just go ahead and scrap it.

Not much reaction from crew members so far, but we do have this:

Marc Bernardin (Writer on the show):

I wonder how soon Zaslav is going to start selling of properties on the WB backlot as if they’re real houses and such.

Maybe they could re-format this to keep Zaslav happy?

A new reality TV show - Keeping up with the Creatives of Batman: Caped Crusader.

You know create some fake drama between Timm and Reeves, all the hype leading up to the premiere, a will they/won't they? romance between two cast members. Splice scenes from the episodes between the ''drama'' and we are good to go.

I havent had much hopes of this being anything great. Well, some hopes about the actual animation, but othervise not much else. Understandable if they sell it to some other network. Lets see what happens, I would have preferred some other DC projects they are doing to get cancelled instead.

I mean Hulu worked out fine for the Animaniacs reboot. Hopefully they’ll scoop it up.

So NOONAN'S, a Harley Quinn Kite Man spin-off show seems to be going ahead for now on Max/streaming/whatever they want to call it.

Somebody please explain to me why this seems more viable to HBO Max than a freakin' BATMAN cartoon from Timm, Reeves and Abrams?

Make it make sense.

I was really looking forward to this, especially with Brubaker writing.

Sure.

1. Cost. It sounds like they were doing state of the art stuff with this Batman show, and that is expensive. And as much as I love Harley Quinn, and feel that X-Men 97 will be lucky to get that quality of animation, is cheaper. It still is time intensive, but it is not exactly pushing any animation boundries.

2. Audience target. It doesn't really fit the two main audiences they seem to be interested in. I mean, just take a quick look at Cartoon Network's schedule. It really doesn't fit that well. And it definitely ain't adult oriented, like Rick and Morty and Harley Quinn. And I'll be honest, everything I've seen does not make me convinced that it fits with a lot of the other YA oriented animation shows I've seen. This is a weird show, that not only doesn't really fit with WB's own trends, but the trends in animation as well.

This was on my YouTube front page.

DC we are mourning too but there is still hope.

Also, as an addendum, given Zaslov's hatred of the Abram's deal, I think Abram's involvement was also a big mark against this series.

Which means Coates Superman is probably in the trash can at this point.

I don't think he'll want to lose Abram's... he's just pushing him to get things done. He'll have to really perform now that Zaslav has lit a fire under him.

Imagine if FOX picked this up and aired it on their Sunday night animation block... bring it full circle. Another Bruce Timm Batman cartoon on prime-time.

I mean, Harley Quinn is for adults and amazing. It's fanbase skewing older helps.

Because Cars exists and it's profitable af.

I currently await the day when the Animaniacs reboot does an episode of all this and promptly roasts Zaslav to oblivion.

If this goes from being on a service I already have/use frequently (HBO Max) to one I haven’t really planned on getting (Apple), I’m gonna be so ****ing annoyed.

Getting to watch all of Ted Lasso and Severance would sweeten the pot, but still. :o

Apple is cheap and pretty great... For All Mankind is legendary.
