DC Animation ‘Batman: Caped Crusader’: Animated Series From Bruce Timm, J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves Greenlit

Figured this was going to be the case when the head of WBTV said they were working on a deal with Amazon for DC animation. Nice to see confirmation.

does the dcau move onto amazon too as part of that deal? could see a scenario where harley quinn and the dcu projects are the only dc animated shows on max

Though, if the Harley Quinn series does get transferred over to Amazon, that would make it the third streaming service it has been on.

That’s just crazy to think about.

Don’t know if everything will go over, but if it did happen, it sure would make make for good marketing and synergy between the DCU and DC Comics. Having both of those divisions together in one place would literally just help them pay for each other and for themselves. I mean, imagine finishing an episode, an entire season or a film in the DC universe and being able to immediately purchase the graphic novel or comic book run that inspired it from the same place?

Not saying I’m in support of monopolies or anything. I’m just saying, from a business standpoint, it would be very financially lucrative.

Are they going to do an art style similar to Timm's Strange Days short? Because to be honest, I would love to see a Batman cartoon inspired by the 90s grunge rock aesthetic, similar to the look of The Batman.

Man, this is so cool. Was just thinking about this the other day.

I’ll always be there for animated Batman. Plus, Brubaker and Rucka are attached! And it’s guaranteed two seasons!! This’ll be sick.

An article from a little over six months ago but it's an interesting read.

Batman: Caped Crusader can recapture the spirit of the DCAU | Digital Trends
The potential success of Caped Crusader could also lay the foundation for other DC heroes getting animated adaptations and absorbed into a wider animated universe. It would certainly be poetic considering The Animated Series did just that for the DCAU in the ’90s, and it would be just as satisfying to see Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and more get their time to shine and interact with this new Batman.

I'm genuinely surprised there hasn't been a Wonder Woman animated series by this point. Lots of potential there, but I'm not sure if James Gunn would allow there to be another animated universe to correlate with the DCU unless it's under the Elseworlds umbrella.

I remember when Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman ended a lot of us thought we'd get an animated follow-up at some point, maybe even with Lynda herself voicing her role in the same way that Adam West and Burt Ward had with The New Adventures of Batman (1977).

I dont care who picks it up...i just want it one way or the other.
Preferable from someone who also sells the series then later as Blu-Ray.

Ive been saying this for years in general.
Like why have studios given up on animated series?
With the quality nowadays etc you could do insanely good Comic Book Animated series.

The way marvel and dc ignore the market there, is criminal.
We should have had long ago gotten a WW series...or at least more animated movies.
Like when the WW movie hit, we should have gotten either a series or a movie.
Same with Aquaman...instead we got this weird ugly cartoon thing nobody cared about.

I think there was a rights issue for a while because they wanted to use her for the DCAU for a while.

Sam Register has said they are actively working on getting a Wonder Woman animated series off the ground. Hard to believe its taking so long... no doubt the fear that merchandise simply wouldn't sell.

Lets be honest though... they never cared. WW was always available for a solo show because part of the duspute in the 90s is that she had to be a main character.

I'm guessing that's a large part of it. As far as the high-end collectibles go, I'm sure they'd sell well; I remember talking to a member of staff at Forbidden Planet a while back who said that the expensive figurines of female characters sold very well (of course!) relatively speaking, but that's a comparatively niche market. I guess the concerns are more about the action figures/posters/lunchboxes/backpacks side of things, which although cheaper sell in far more volume and (I imagine) make up the lions share of sales.

Where did he say it?

Where did he say it?

On his instagram in the comments section. Someone asked about Wonder Woman after the announcement of this show and he said he was "working on it".

And, of course, now Gunn is pushing for it as well.

Amazon Prime has finally confirmed their involvement with Batman: Caped Crusader:

Nothing new to report for the show, except they are still leaning heavily on the old B:TAS nostalgia.

Batman: The Animated Series helped pioneer in the evolution of superhero storytelling and defined the Dark Knight for a generation,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon and MGM Studios. Batman: Caped Crusader will no doubt continue that tradition and, alongside Merry Little Batman and Bat-Family, we’re thrilled to collaborate with Warner Bros. Animation to offer a variety of takes of the Batman mythos to our global Prime Video customers.”

Hopefully that ''global'' part means we'll see it on Amazon Prime UK... you never know over here.

Man is that "My Little Batman" art-style ugly. Makes the new Superman cartoon look half-way decent.
