1,2 Freddy's coming for you: Welcome to the elm street thread

A little tidbit i found interesting.

I don't like the sound of that. If its true don't even bother then.

"The fact is I heard from my agent that a remake (of the original Nightmare on Elm Street) was going to happen. So I called my friend Bob Shaye. As you may know New Line Cinema had now been shut down by Warner Bros, who owns it, all of the properties were assumed by WB and Bob didn’t know any more about it than I did, he told me I certainly have no control over it. Michael Bays company Platinum Dunes had it, but I believe that is no longer the case. There is a writer on it, I don’t know if it’s a remake or prequel. I don’t have any real information about it." - wes Craven.

ummm
i never knew this WAS gonna be at New Line. i thought New Line was dead, i figgered Plat Dunes or somethin would be behind it. does the studio matter as long as the flick turns out to be watchable?

Yes, sometimes it does matter what company is behind a movie.

consider this:
at least it isnt Fox.

either way ill say it again, if the movies good (they have a great writer on the flick) than im happy it doesnt matter whether its New Line or anything.

Okay, I don't know why everyone has beef with fox. I like fox. But that's just me.

I had the chance to meet Robert at Monster Mania this past weekend and he really seems to wanna give this remake a chance. At the Elm Street Q and A people were shouting "One more time!" and "We want you to play Freddy!" There was also alot of booing for the remake, but Robert really seem annoyed with it. He thinks that CGI alone would fit very well with creating great nightmare sequences. It just really seems like he's behind it 100%.

That's a plus for the new project if Robert's so behind the idea of remaking A Nightmare on Elm Street. Especially considering how vocal he's been about playing Freddy once again via another vs. flick, or prequel over the past couple of years.

i'll see the remake , if it is good then thats cool. if not then i'll just stick with the eight or so nightmare on elms st flicks already in existence.

I realise that the role has yet to be cast but is it too early to start talking about how Freddy will be presented visually in the movie (obviously post burning)?

I mean really, the look is pretty iconic. I sincerely hope that they don't tinker around with that aspect too much; if at all.

Has there been any snippets/soundbites from folk involved in the production in regards to this?

The only major thing I'd like to see is for them to go back to Freddy's original sweater.

Well i thought i remember reading an article last week saying the studio doesnt even know what they are going to be doing with the property yet.

I liked them. and remember it was fox who really got the comic book thing going with the first X-men being a big hit.
Though Rothman hated the X-Men (and/or Singer) and tried to ruin the movie from the get-go.

Technically, wasnt it the success of 'Blade' that kick started the whole comicbook movie resurgence?

As I recall, even though the average person didnt know Blade came from a Marvel comic - it's success was the catalyst to X-Men getting the green light.

I think Blade caused the spark for the comic book film boom, but I believe X-Men is largely responsible for getting the ball rolling that caused Hollywood to take perhaps more of a notice than previously.

Superman 1 = hit
Superman 2 = hit
Superman 3 = moderate hit (Box office wise)
Supergirl = bomb
Superman 4 = bomb
Batman, BR, BForever = big hits
B&R, Steel, Spawn all bombed...

then Blade did moderately well, like 50 or 60 mill and big on DVD/VHS... got X-Men greenlit, which was huge, then Spidey which REALLY (in 2002) got everything started for the flicks and the rest is, as they say, history

I'm not for this especially if Robert's not in it,but if it were to happen then New Line is who I would want making the film. Although the company is gone, they were the "House that Freddy built," and I know Bob Shaye loved the series and had the greatest respect for it,as well as for Robert and Wes Craven. Unlike Paramount, who treated the Friday the 13th series like it's bastard step child.

People need to get it through their heads once and for all!

Robert Englund is not gonna be in this movie for two reasons!

He's getting too old. Words he said himself and this is a remake/reboot meaning your gonna have a new person in the role.

If you don't wanna see it no one is forcing you. You will always have the other 8 nightmare films to look at.

So i repeat Robert Englund will not be in this! Atleast not as freddy!

Se i know someone was gonna bring that up.

but did it have success like X0men did? Were people like oh you gotta go see Blade? No! And the sequel to blade only got made after X-Men got big.
