Finally something concrete and not a bad hire to boot. I've never believed West V to be the fringe national title contender they've been made to be over the past few years, but Rodriguez's teams have been well coached and catered to his player's strengths.

Does this mean the spread offense will be making its way to Ann Arbor at some point?
Me likey. There needs to be an infusion of more athleticism.

Yeah, I've always pegged them as overrated too. Does this mean Michigan will get to be overrated now, too? Oh, wait a minute, doesn't starting as #5 and losing to App State qualify? Anyway, my brother in law suggested we just hire their AD and cut to the chase.

Yeah and the Pitt game showed it... he isn't a big game coach that's all there is too it... but he did have Rutgers number for the last 10 years so I am glad he is out of the Big East... WVU coming back down to the pack baby...

Good hire for Michigan. Far better than Miles. I am not sure who did better for their team with the hirings: Georgia Tech, Duke, Ole Miss and Michigan helped themselves exponentially with their hirings.

Where have you seen Michigan fans 'sweating' over the Rodriguez hire or the spread? The consensus seems to be that it was a good move, especially amongst the Michigan fans in this thread and the ones whose thoughts I've read on Wolverine message boards.

spread offense is awesome, but the fact is, rodriguez is not a defensive minded coach. he better get a very good coordinator, because his freak 5-3-3 defense will be destroyed in the big ten. huge running backs will get right through to the secondary where they will not go down easily.

and another thing, as a former mountaineer, all i can say is good riddance and go buckeyes.

I haven't heard any news about Ron English in the midst of Rodriguez coming to Ann Arbor, but if he stays as D-Coordinator, Michigan will be alright. Big Blue's has been particularly vulnerable against sharp passing offenses, especially against teams with good athleticism/speed (look at the last two Rose Bowls versus Southern Cal or the App. St. or Oregon games). I'm hoping that Rodriguez's proficiency with such an offensive strategy can allow a bit more understanding in how to deal with such a thing, along with the difference in athletes Rich will looking to bring on the recruiting trail.

With English having had that offer from Da Bears a few years ago, my bet is that he'll either find a head coaching job at a smaller school (if there are any left) or move on to the NFL. That's simply a guess, I'd have no problem with him sticking around, but I wouldn't blame him or Rodrigues if they wanted their own people to work with.

I already mentioned that was the ONE game he won... man you people need to skim all the posts in BETWEEN before you reply...

On the subject of Coach Rod, I was very dismayed to hear he left. I kind of felt abandoned. He should've done this deal, or at least publicized it, following the Fiesta Bowl. One thing that made me feel a lot better about it is Terry Bowden's interest in returning to West Virginia to coach at WVU. I don't know how good he'd be, having been out of the coaching business for so long, but he'ss a class act and knows his s**t.

You know the only people I hear that from is the West Virgina faithful... and lemme guess... you're one of them, no? I couldn't laugh harder... this is the same group of fans that complain their team gets no credit because of the schedule they play... and yet they have STILL not gone 12-0 in any year in that watered down conference... and I don't know how that's possible because the conference is the worst of the six... the Big Ten and the ACC have been atrocious the last couple of years... but I'd take the top four in those conferences than the top four Big East teams any day of the week.
