2008 Academy Awards

True, I mean most of these movies I havent cause there all kinda recent like in the last month or so....

Yay for Viggo....it's about time.

SWEENEY TODD is under-represented in nominations, though that's somewhat expected. As brilliant as it was, it just wasn't garnering the buzz it needed. It should have a Best Picture nom and Helena Bonham Carter should have gotten a Best Supporting Actress nod.

THERE WILL BE BLOOD deserves the Best Picture win, not NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. But why the hell is Greenwood's score for THERE WILL BE BLOOD ignored?

What pisses me off is how Into the Wild was basically ignored. Emile Hirsch should have been nominated for best actor, but the category that I'm most confused about is "Original Song". Eddie Vedder's "Guaranteed" is an amazing piece of art.

Completely ridiculous list.

No Zodiac?
No American Gangster?
No Rescue Dawn?

JUNO is nominated for BEST PICTURE???

Juno, according to the academy, is better than Zodiac.

And what's it going to take for Christian Bale to at least get nominated?? Not even for 3:10 to Yuma?? No Rescue Dawn?? WTF.

And why the hell isn't Marcia Gay Harden nominated for her role in The Mist?? Her performace dances in circles around the 5 nominees.

This is one of the worst Oscar lists of ALL-TIME, no doubt about it.

I agree about Zodiac, but it needed to be released in October or so to be seen as a serious contender.

I am mad about Sweeney Todd not getting a BP nom, but I expected it. I just hope No Country doesn't win.

I've never understood that horse****. They give awards for the best movie of 2007 don't they? Not for the best movies from the 1st half of 2007? Why is that? Can ANYONE tell me?

Since some in this thread think their view of best picture is fact there are gonna be some caught feelings on Oscar night.....

No Country will be the only one of the best pic noms I'll have seen come Oscar night, Clayton and Atonement have been and gone here and won't be out on DVD until after The Oscar, Juno hits cinema's here post Oscar and I have no interest in There Will be Blood.

Because the Oscars aren't really about the best of the year... it's about what came out closest to the show. That way, the academy can be lazy and not see the movies from all year... they just pick the last five that came out before the awards.

I mean, for CHRIST'S sakes... Juno? JUNO?!?! You're telling me that Juno is one of the 5 best films of 2007?

I think whoever sucks the most d***s at the academy gets nominated... because that's the only explanation I can come up with.

Maybe because it's all publicity, and there is no point promoting Zodiac, while you could be promoting movies that people can still catch in theathers, or have DVDs coming soon...

Just throwing something, of the top of my head...

And honestly... Atonement, Juno, and Michael Clayton have no place on that best picture list. So many films were light-years beyond this year.

No Country and There Will Be Blood are the only two serious choices, in my opinion. The other three are laughable.

So, between the two, I'd say No Country is going to win.

But above all.... F*** the Oscars.

Promotion certainly plays a big part, obviously if Christian Bale's perfomance would have been pushed more by the studio he certainly would have gotten nominated.

A film that breaks even or loses money, the studio behind that film certainly won't want to invest more money into for oscar pub.

Why did you come back under another name just to get aggro again ?

i mean i know that its about opinion but look at this list.

this just can not be right.

As much as I want Ellen Page to win, the academy is going to give to cate blanchett.

I wont be surprised if she won two awards that night,

Tim Burton once again gets f**king raped, not even a single goddamn nomination:cmad: To quote Robert Rodriguez, "f*** the oscars!" Pretentious ostentatiously filled ***holes!
